When you're very emotional about a game, why wouldn't you be sad or angered by a loss? Don't people want athletes to have that much emotion and love for their jobs?

Peyton Manning storms off Super Bowl field. Is he a poor sport?

Thanks for adding perspective. From your link:

Hall of Fames don't tend to include guys who can't care. The desire to win is what sustains greatness. You think Michael Jordan was hugging Isiah Thomas after losses in the 1980s? Or that Larry Bird stayed on the court to congratulate Kareem? Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio weren't going out for drinks after the Yankees beat the Red Sox. The great ones are competitors and competitors can't flip a switch immediately after a devastating loss and act like it didn't matter.

No, the "poor sports" are those who attribute the most base motivations for disliking the guy, feeding a toxic narrative that has colored every aspect of national life. Sports fans upset at someone on the other side grandstanding; unprecedented!

I think a good player can hold his negativity in when his team loses. Deion Sanders pointed out that Newton is a representative of the NFL, and that if he's going to be that exuberant about winning, he's got to take the losses in stride as well.

Thanks, Cow. I'm not a fan of Cam (for various reasons, race not being one of them) but that seems like a pretty decent exchange between the two.
He is young and I would think somewhat insecure inside. Playing against someone like Peyton in the Super Bowl, yike!
He behaved like a gentleman with Peyton.
I look forward to seeing more of him. He probably could use some time with guys like Bettis and Polamalu. They always had such good attitudes, team spirit, and excellent behaviors.

It's just a kid's game. I try to teach my children to put games into prospective. I don't want to see my child cry like a baby over a game. I think it's wise to get control of your emotions on the job.
These men get paid in the millions and they acted worst than children sometimes.

He is young
That's the second time today I've heard this. Come on...he's 26, not 12. Many MEN younger than him are well capable of acting like men. How does he get a pass at 26? That's absurd.

People have ripped Johnny Manziel (as another example) to shreds all year long for his antics, and rightfully so, on the whole. It's about manning up, holding yourself accountable for your actions, and acting with maturity and dignity in good times AND bad.

Newton also doesn't qualify. He's an immature egomaniac who's all smiles and that primping, preening circus clown nonsense when things go well...when they don't, he picks up his ball and stomps away. Frankly I'm not sure which is worse.

Hopefully he will learn from this, grow up, and act like a man from here on out. But I suspect there will instead be more of the same.

I was happy to see Peyton Manning get his super bowl victory, he's been a football icon since the first time I watched the game. But I've got to say, he is one strange guy, seems very phony when answering questions after the game. Kind of the Marco Rubio of football.
Honestly, what kind of stuff is going on in a guys head to make him launch into impromptu product placement ads in a moment like that?
Well, I hope he got to stick a lot of Budweiser in his mouth.

Maybe in July have a Bud. But with that kind of scratch, I'd upgrade my beer choice.

See, the problem is Peyton had absolutely nothing to do with his team winning the game. He had a pretty terrible one - below replacement level. In fact, it could have gotten even worse as there were more than a few floated passes that hit defenders in the hands which, by all accounts, should have been intercepted.

Now put Von Miller into the role of batman there and the example works. Von Miller was an absolute nightmare in this game.

Tends to be a trend I think.
We watched the Panthers Seahawks play-off game. Seattle lost in the end by one touchdown that would have tied the game into overtime.
But early on Panthers got credit for a touchdown when their player jumped, landed horizontally across the backs of the offense and defenders on the first yard line. The player with the ball and for the Panthers , his name escapes me, is laying horizontally across the backs of players on both sides as they pile on to block. Panther player with the ball extends his arms, his feet are still resting on the backs of the pile of players underneath, and it's a touch down!

Even the commentators in the booth are in on it saying how there's no doubt about that call!
After that I knew with Seattle playing on the Panther's home field they were done for. Sure enough! They were.

When Pete Carroll doesn't challenge that it's in the bag. That's why I'm glad Panthers got thumped in the Super Bowl .

And now on top of the shirk that lost them the Bowl, Seattle's Beast Mode is probably going to retire. :(

I'm not sure why you object to that call - it is a TD. If you are a runner that has established possession, why does it matter if you're lying on top of other players. Unless you're down by contact, the only thing that matters is if the ball breaks the plane of the end zone. Once the tip of the ball touches the goal line, it's a TD.

Also Carroll can't challenge - only booth reviews on scoring plays. And the booth in NY confirmed it.

Perhaps he just likes Bud. In my neck of the woods Yuengling Lager is the leading beer, and most of my neighbors would say that they were having a Yuengling or a Lager without giving it a second thought.

Apparently he has part ownership of a distributor. He's a master pitch man. Imagine if Cam Newton said that after winning the Super Bowl.
