Maybe, maybe not....Circa 1862 likely North or South Carolina, slave children on a plantation. There is some disagreement on this and some think its a fake made sometime in the 1920's . If it is, it's a dang good fake.
They maybe trying to pass it off as a Matthew Brady photo famous for his pictures of Lincoln. Brady primarily focused on portraits in a studio though he did have some photographers working for him in the field during the civil war. The paper and chemicals used would have to be tested to verify the time period.

Supposedly it was taken by one of Brady's associates who took picture in the field of battlefields, soldiers, stuff like that. I'd be lying if I told you I understood the controversy around it but honestly, the evidence that it's real seems convincing to me.

75th Anniversary Reunion of the Battle of Gettysburg

191311.jpg

Each of the elderly gentleman was assigned an attendant responsible for their comfort and care. The two opposing armies assembled in peace in order to commemorate peace. Foe had become friend. Now they were not northern or southern, they were Americans.

During the Battle of Gettysburg, huge armies concentrated for a decisive battle. Now the old soldiers converged in a vast sea of tent encampments.

Leonid Rogozov was a Soviet general practitioner who took part in the sixth Soviet Antarctic Expedition in 1960–1961. He was the only doctor stationed at the Novolazarevskaya Station and, while there, developed appendicitis, which meant he had to perform an appendectomy on himself, a famous case of self-surgery......

Little Sure Shot Annie Oakley

Edison Film Company video of Annie shooting.

Annie Oakley was probably the most famous marksman/woman in the world when this short clip was produced in Edison's Black Maria studio in West Orange, New Jersey. Barely five feet tall, Annie was always associated with the wild west, although she was born in 1860 as Phoebe Ann Oakley Mozee (or Moses)in Darke County, Ohio. Nevertheless, she was a staple in the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show and similar wild west companies. Because of her diminutive stature, she was billed as "Little Sure Shot."

The man assisting her is this appearance is probably her husband, Frank E. Butler. Annie had outshot Butler (a famous dead-eye marksman himself) in a shooting contest in the 1880's. Instead of nursing his bruised ego because he had been throughly outgunned by a woman, Butler fell in love, married Little Sure Shot, and became her manager.

Theirs was a solid and happy marriage that lasted 44 years, and when Annie died on November 3, 1926, at age 66, a heartbroken Butler followed her to the grave 18 days later.

The Kayan Lahwi people, also known as Padaung, are an ethnic group with populations in Myanmar (Burma) and Thailand. Padaung women are well-known for wearing neck rings, brass coils that are placed around the neck, appearing to lengthen it. The women wearing these coils are known as “giraffe women.” This set of photographs is taken in 1935 when a group of Padaung women visited London. In the 1930s, circuses and shows were extremely popular in the United Kingdom and these women, advertised as “giraffe women,” were star attractions, drawing huge crowds.

In their most distinctive custom, beginning at about five years of age, many Padaung girls have their necks wound with spirals of brass. (In earlier days, copper and gold were used as well.) A bedinsayah (spirit doctor) puts the coils into place on a day determined by divination to be auspicious. The first spiral, put on a girl at the age of five or so, is usually about four inches high (10 cm); in approximately two years, another coil is added. Coils are then added sporadically until a limit of 21-25 is reached, at the age of marriage. The spiral may reach to a foot in height (30 cm) and weigh 20 pounds (9kg); this gives the illusion of a stretched neck. but the actual effect is that of pushing down the collarbones and rib cage to distort the chest and slope the shoulders. In fact, the weight of the brass pushes the collar bone down and compresses the rib cage. The neck itself is not lengthened; the appearance of a stretched neck is created by the deformation of the clavicle (chest) and the sloping of the shoulders.

The coil, once on, is seldom removed, as the coiling and uncoiling is a lengthy procedure. It is usually only removed to be replaced by a new or longer coil. The muscles covered by the coil become weakened.

At the end of World War Two the city of Dresden was in ruins, all its buildings destroyed and thousands of civilians dead. The order by Allied commanders to heavily bomb Dresden towards the end of the war has become one of the most controversial decisions made in the European theatre .
