Part 2 movies are usually pretty good.. its the part 3 and onward that they always screw up. Rocky was able to go all the way to part 4 before it got stupid.

Yeah, but when a good twenty years has passed since the first film, that kind of tells me that the producers were running short on ideas...or at least not good ideas, since the sequel has apparently been in various stages of development and re-writes since 2001. I'm not saying it'll be definitively bad, it's just that I'm wary of a sequel just now arriving after so long.

And I disagree about 'Rocky IV': it's really stupid but it's also really fun. 'Rocky V' is the bad one, but part VI and 'Creed' were both among the best in the series. I mean, I get what you're saying about sequels, but I'm compelled to nitpick when it comes to 'Rocky'.

You misunderstand.. Or I wasn't clear. 4 was good.. it got all the way to 4.. then 5 was dumb..

Star Trek has always been good.. they've never made a bad movie yet.

Well I'm definitely gonna watch this as soon as it comes out.

.
Same here. I like the trailer line about the E.T's arriving in a bigger ship than last time. ^_^
Angry aliens! They're back, they're bigger, and they're STILL ticked off! :p

I have some issues with it.

1. No Will Smith (regardless of what I think of the whole Oscar thing). I loved him with the other guy from the first movie.
2. 20 years later and somehow the SAME small ships are attacking earth again. You'd think they would have more advanced ships. I am referring to the small fighters btw.
3. The fact they reverse engineered all that tech and made futuristic jets, guns and even moon stuff is silly to me. At least within a 20 year period.

With that all said I am going to see it with alot of caution. MANY movies recently are suddenly releasing sequels just to cash in on the first movies. And alot of them aren't anywhere near as good as the first. This feels like a cash grab, though I am hoping inside its more then that because I always wanted another movie.

I just finished watching it less than 10 minutes ago and totally loved it as much as the original. I'm being very sincere, it's a really good action packed movie after the first 15 minutes.

It only has a 5.7/10 ratings on IMBA but what do they know. Best movie I've seen this year so far.

Watched it finally. Horrible. Not christian wise or anything. Just felt like the reused every scene and line from the old one in this one. The new characters I had zero care about. They didn't really spend any time making you feel anything for them. And the technology (and CGI) seemed overly cheesy. How in a 20 year period did we get 30 floating TVs on the white house grass, space weapons...etc. I get reverse engineering but its not possible to have all we did (including the moon stuff) in 20 years. Not to mention at the time 1.7 (if I recall) billion people were killed that we know of. At the time earth had 6 billion people. Not only could they not have reversed all the tech and built new stuff, but they couldn't have rebuilt all the cities the same and even better and bigger in that period.

I do realize its more of a mindless action flick so I shouldn't take it so seriously (I usually don't). But it felt like it was rushed, poor writing and not really made the same as the first one. There are more movies in the work (not sure the amount yet), and I will see the next one in hopes of its better then this one. The twists, which I won't mention are the only things keeping me drawn in. And this twist will either make or break the next one.

I watched it a couple days ago. The first one is definitely better. The ending also screams at us that there's going to be another sequel.

Is it any more sillier than using a 1990's human computer virus to take down an absurdly advanced alien computer defense system?
Obviously the '90s computer system was developed using secret imput from reverse engineerex alien tech, that's why they were compatible.

Or did you think Steve Jobs came up with all that Apple stuff all by himself?

Yep they cleared the air about that one since many were confused. There was supposed to be a scene where they show that they were able to get in thanks to old alien tech. The last one made alot more sense story wise. This was just felt like a B movie at times. It reminded me of the silly scenes from Starship Troopers. Which I loved mind you (the movie).

I heard an interview with the director where he pretty much said it was supposed to be a B-grade hommage. As for Star Ship troopers, one of my favourite cheeseball movies, but also one of my favourite serious philosophical books. I wish the movie were called something else.
