Watched an episode in which mr bourdain goes to sweden.
I have never been, but he ate- meatballs, reindeer, lobster tails and scallops in butter, goose feast on st martins day, and some kind of hotdog combination that had mashed potatoes and shrimp.

Also is the land of smorgasbord, abba, and extreme skiers.
I blame swedish designers for the current glut of reindeer antlers and blond furnishings you see everywhere. We dont even have reindeer in nz, and deer is considered a pest, so not sure why its trendy to have fake deer antlers as home furnishings. Well now i know which country to blame.

I think everyone should learn how to cook.

Good food is like love in edible form. Where I'm from food has a big influence and it is a part of everything, from celebrations to mourning it all has a food component to it.

I wouldn't call myself a foodie necessarily but I enjoy eating good food, no matter the type. I think the only types of food that I have tried and couldn't seem to find something I liked was when I ate Indian or Cajun food. I think if someone had been with me who knew something about Indian food it would have been a different experience. As for cajun food well... a person cannot live on beignets alone.

this dvd has 13 episodes and in two of them are where Mr Bourdain goes to India, so I might watch those next and report back on the kinds of food he tasted there.

As for myself vegetable korma, butter chicken and poppadoms are what I choose from indian takeaway.
If you not keen on spices or curries, I'm afraid you won't like much of Indian food.

I'm not a chef, nor do I consider myself "artsy" in the kitchen. But I think I'm a pretty good cook. This morning, I browned pork roast in olive oil and butter, seasoned it with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, seasoned salt, pepper, turmeric, Hungarian sweet paprika, and browned sugar (would put mustard and chili powder, but my mom can't handle spicy food), then added some Jack Daniel's, let it cook out, then added some chicken broth and coffee, then baked it all day at 250 degrees, and added some BBQ sauce toward the end and shredded it up for pulled pork sandwiches.

Haha i just heated up lamb shanks stew mum had already made for dinner but added more seasoning, peppercorns, mustard and rosemary to bring out the flavour.

Although I can cook lamb shanks myself for passover meal with onions, stock, and seasonings. But why cook from scratch when theres food already made that needs to be eaten.

I dont watch those master chef shows although I did use to watch top chef. I dont really have what it takes to be a chef and they always say dont trust a skinny one. But i do learn a lot from cookbooks and experimentation.

Depends on the food that's "already made". If you have leftovers, that's one thing. But most of this premade, heat and serve food you get in stores in poor quality, low nutrition, and full of harmful preservatives, additives, and fats.

Ok for missireland = India. (Anthony also goes to Ireland, later).

Foods they have in india - Goat curry, lots of spices. Vegetarian dhal, lentils and rice. Poppadoms and chapati bread. Chai tea.
Indians eat with their hands and use the bread to mop up the juices.

If you hankering for a cheeseburger you won't find one in this country. Or anything beef. But you will be amazed by all the fragrant spices and the colourful clothes people wear, and also, Bollywood.

Also, if you work in an office, you get your hot lunch delivered, its called tiffin.
And..cricket. Indians love playing cricket.

Mexico and US border -

there's chicken fried steak. And also, some kind of chicken bread roll wrapped in bacon, apparently, deliciously fattening.
Nachos were invented by a desperate housewife. Its not real mexican food.
Real mexican food is street food with fresh tacos made on the grill and ground beef.
I was surprised not more mention of chili peppers.

As for border control, well it was interesting to see the US and Mexico borders and the politics behind it all. Most mexicans are working in restaurants in the US, even making Japanese and French food. They are hardworking cooks. Americans seem to go to Mexico for all the things they can't buy that are illegal in america, like cheap drugs.

Another one..anthony goes to Indonesia.
I think he wants to stay and be the expat. He calls it 'going bamboo'.

Foods sampled...durian- the foul smelling spiky fruit
Doldo..some kindof sweet chewy taffy gum lolly
Spices...nasi goreng, fried rice, street food. Roasted suckling pork. Padang, which is like indonesian dim sum or buffet.

I have an indonesian friend and she is an amazing cook. I think its the spices they use, and the fusion of asian with polynesian and indian influences.

Watched Ireland.

Guinness. irish whiskey.
Meat and potatoes.
Irish stew.

Thats about it, although, Ireland is becoming a bit more cosmopolitan. I just wondered how could they have starved in the potato famine with all that good seafood surrounding them, but apparently they did, cos irish people just didnt eat seafood back in the day.

But maybe also the high alcoholic beverage content also contributed.

Watched ghana and namibia.

Ghana had lots of food and community and singing and dancing while they were eating.
I cant remember what they ate specifically but mr bourdain seemed to be having a good time.

Conversely in namibia he had his worst meal ever. The kalahari bushman hunted a warthog and he ate that. It was rotten and cooked in the ground and they didnt even clean it. He also had ostrich eggs omelete which was cooked covered in ashes and dirt.

Final episodes of this series

Beirut, Lebanon - a party town. Mr bourdain only got to eat some hummus and other snacks in a diner before Israelis started firing missiles after some arabs had shot some political leader. So they had to leave the country.

Pacific Northwest.
This is where all the foodie obssessives hang out.
So OP thats where you go to find em.
