Welcome! There is on CF.com a tutorial "How to be a Christian."

If you live in Kerala or Malabar, you might want to look for the Nasranis: they are the ancient St. Thomas Christians, who have been in India since around 50 AD. The following are Nasrani denominations:

Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church
Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church
Syro-Malabar Catholic Church
Malankara Catholic Church
Independent Syrian Malankara Church
Mar Thoma Syrian Church
Assyrian Church of the East

~

Elsewhere in India, one will find the Anglican/Protestant Church of North India and Church of South India, and the Roman Catholics. The Church of South India uses a liturgy based in part on the worship of the Syrian Orthodox Indians. These churches tend to be more ethnically diverse than the Nasranis, who historically comprised a caste and were in prior centuries discouraged violently from accepting, for example, Dalits (as they were regarded as a high caste, and would have been downgraded to low caste status otherwise, not unlike the Parsees). However, unlike the Parsees, the Nasranis do accept converts.

A major difference is that Nasranis tend to worship in Syriac or Malayalam, whereas Hindi or regional languages are more likely to be found in the all-India Protestant and Catholic churches. However, both groups do use English.

~

The mode of reception for all of the churches I have outlined is baptism followed by confirmation or chrismation. Baptism I should note would not be a novel experience for most Hindus, owing, for example, to Kumbh Mela.

Well, in New Delhi, you'll probably want to look for a nearby parish of the protestant Church of North India or the Roman Catholic Church.

Hi Ashutosh!

My parents are hindus and I was brought up in the Hindu tradition.

The first step I took in my journey was to regularly attend a Sunday service. Try and find a church which makes you feel welcome, where you feel loved.

The second step (which I am doing now) is reading the scriptures. Read the Bible :) Read a page or two a day and try and understand who Jesus was and what he was trying to do. I started with the Gospel of John.

That is the easy part. What you might find difficult are your family. My parents haven't reacted so well to my Christian faith. They were indifferent in the beginning but now are becoming increasingly difficult regarding this matter.

Where ever this path leads you, it will be an enriching experience :)

Good luck!
