• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I'm a 21 year old female college student and have commonly(almost weekly, sometimes daily) had bouts of lightheadedness this year, sometimes accompanied by dizziness. My mom thinks it's anemia related to my menustration and it does seem worse a couple days before that, but it doesn't ONLY happen "that time of the month." I wasn't as lightheaded in high school, but would sometimes get lightheaded taking hot showers around "that time of the month" and I had my blood tested for anemia and it came out negative, but my mom's convinced that test was wrong. Perhaps unrelated, in high school I had tension headaches doctors said were related to stress. I have cerebral palsy too, so apparently a muscle in my back is tight that is connected to my head somehow. My mom said the dizziness might be migraines.

Speaking of stress, I have seen professional counseling before and my therapist said I show symptoms of OCD but she didn't want to diagnose me. Maybe this fatigue is anxiety/stress related?

I've had a really busy junior year of college and a weird sleep schedule so that may be the cause, or if not, I'm sure it certainly doesn't help whatever this is. I'm trying to be better about that.

I'm not really experiencing headaches per say, nor do I feel sleepy(though many times it accompanies sleepiness.) It's like a foggy/heavy head type feeling. The dizziness seems to be worse when I'm really tired or really stressed or even really hungry sometimes. I don't feel like I'm going to fall asleep, but like I'm going to collapse, like "shut down." It almost seems to have started when I accidentally took the kind of allergy medicine that makes you sleepy, but that was back in October so I wouldn't think it had such strong lasting effects.

I know my health history is all over the place, but do you have any theories as to what you think it could be? I'm debating going to the doctor but I'm scared he's just going to be like "get more sleep" or something. If it means anything, I feel the fogginess from the side of my head to my forehead. Thanks!

Hi Jen,
How are you feeling now?
I hope you are feeling better.

There are many things that can cause fatigue other than just anemia.
About 2 years ago, I woke up one day and felt like I'd run a marathon. It was an overwhelming fatigue like I've never experienced before or since. I couldn't lift my own head at times, it was so bad. I had a terrible few months of trying to get a diagnosis and was eventually diagnosed with anemia and severe Vitamin D Deficiency.
I suspect it was a combination of these two conditions, plus the stress of the situation and my ongoing struggles with OCD that caused me to become completely wiped out and exhausted.

So my advice to you is to ask for blood tests for vitamin deficiencies and thyroid levels too. These are common reasons for fatigue that can either be ruled out or treated fairly quickly. In my case I was given a course of tablets and felt better almost straight away.
If these blood tests come back normal then you could be looking at something else like stress, lack of sleep and/or other life style factors. The 'foggy' headed feeling you describe made me think of Fibromyalgia but that has more widespread symptoms than the ones you seem to be describing.

We can't diagnose you over the internet but I want to encourage you to not be worried about going to your doctor.
Yes, they can be dismissive towards people with anxiety and mental health issues but you can also get some lovely one too, who listen and care and are committed to finding out why you are feeling the way you feel. Pray you find a good doctor who takes your concerns seriously. :)

Candidiasis, or candida overgrowth, can manifests as many different health problems, including fatigue. I recommend the book Life Force, by Dr. Jeffrey McCombs. Very valuable information to be had.

There are various ways to deal with candida overgrowth. You may also want to look up “The Candida Cure” by Dr. Jennifer Daniels. You can print out the free book online. I’ve done this controversial method with rather positive results, and may do so again.

Good luck.
