• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Never Once - One Sonic Society
Nice song.
Beauty From Pain - Superchick
Are you familiar with the song Stand In The Rain, by them? I have mixed feelings about listening to the song called.....Courage....I believe..
You Are More - Tenth Avenue North
Very relative song. I'm surprised I missed that since it's got common relations in these types of communities.
Cry Out To Jesus - Third Day
Good choice.
Broken Together - Casting Crowns
If there was an instrumental version of this by them in one of their CD's, I would totally buy it. The problem with this song, despite the lovely tone the piano allows the listener to embrace is that the theme of the song is actually primarily towards marriage and people who struggle in theirs. The song is very calming, to say the least, and I admire how the most intense it gets is with the string instrument they used. Instantaneous loud introductions to things like the drums, guitars, bass guitar can be a bit of a shocker or scare or startle like how it was used in East to West. But no, this song keeps it's "calm".
Lift Up Your Face - Third Day
I think the song Nothing Compares by them is very relative as well. I don't know if it has any peaking high moments where the instruments play "as loud as they can", though.
Come As You Are - Crowder
This song is perfect, as I believe this can relate to any one. Any one. The quote "Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't cure" can't be expressed enough.

I only included "broken together" because i happened to be listening to it at the time i think and i really like the tune.

I downloaded all of the ones in the first category you had.
I like Be Still - it talks about how we should just be still and trust God. He is always with us, no matter what.
Pieces is good. sounds like he is talking about being lost in sin and then finding God again after.
Dry bones kind of creeps me out. just the tune does because of the key it is in but i really like it anyway and i like the words because thats how i feel. as if my soul is crying out for Jesus.
slow fade - its about how we can slowly fade away from God and get sucked into sin without even noticing that it is happening. like our music and movie/tv and other choices can impact our faith in a very minor slow way that could eventually pull us away from God. The song kind of creeps me out because this is something i worry about. but i like the line "people never crumble in a day" but this is a really good song with a really good message.
Hymn for the missing - sort of like Broken Together. Supposedly (according to songfacts.com) this song is about losing someone. could be someone who went off to war and got lost. its a beautiful song though. really sad. sort of makes me want to cry.
Shattered - one of my favorite songs. when they say "passing the graves of the unknown" i wonder if they arent referring to non christians that didnt know God when they died. i like how he seems to gain hope at the end of the song.
Completely - a song about surrendering all your troubles/life to God. giving up and trusting him.
Desert Song - this is a nice song
Never Alone - my absolute favorite out of all the songs you listed. the singer is stating that even though at times we feel as if God has left us, as if we we are all alone, we really arent because his word promises that he is always with us and we need to trust it.
Rest - this is another of my favorite songs that you listed. it sounds like the song writer is saying to let go of your burden and accept grace.

i will download the other songs you suggested sometime soon as well.

another couple songs for those of you who like hiphop.

Paralyzed by NF - this is a really sad song. it sounds more like he is depressed when he sings it than anything else because he is singing about how he feels numb. it sounds like he is struggling with his faith and how he wants to feel something but he is just numb inside. with OCD, we sometimes can go through this where we wonder why we dont feel anxious and stuff so i feel like i can relate a bit to this song.

Alone by NF - a really good song. he starts out by singing about how he is alone but at the end of the song he starts singing about how we arent alone because of Jesus

Mansion by NF - I suggested this song a few posts above but wanted to say a couple things about it. This song seems to be about fear or anxiety. he talks about how his mind is a home (mansion) he is trapped in and one of the rooms is a panic room and he doesnt want to open the door because it could let fear in but fear already moved in a long time ago. i like the very end where he isnt sure if it is him speaking anymore or if it is the fear talking because with OCD we sometimes get confused what thoughts are OCD thoughts and what thoughts are our thoughts.

Ill Keep On - NF - a REALLY good (hiphop) song. he sings about how his heart and soul and hands are tired but he will keep on. he sings about difficulty with trust and faith. how he isnt always a very good christian but he wants to give God his life. i really like where he says "My life will always have a hole if you are not the center piece
Take me out of bondage, take all of my pride, If I don't have a Savior, I don't have nothing inside"

I don't know about other people, but I find peace in the rain and listening to acoustic or folk-like songs. Higher by Gungor is a good example but there are a few songs that are similar that I'd like to recommend:

  • Dear Younger Me by MercyMe
  • My Trust Is In You (Acoustic) by Aaron Shust
  • Bad Days Better by Shane & Shane
  • The Glory of It All by David Crowder Band
  • Fix My Eyes by Kings Kaleidoscope
  • Come Thou Fount by Kings Kaleidoscope
  • You Have Me by Gungor
  • My Only by John Mark McMillan
  • Oh Love That Will Not Let Me Go by Ascend The Hill
  • Let It Rain (Live) by Jesus Culture
  • Take Heart by Hillsong UNITED
  • Heaven Song by Phil Wickham
  • Take A Moment by Will Reagan & United Pursuit
** If you have All Access (Music Subscription) on Google, Hit the 'Start Radio' button when playing 'Higher' and these listed as well as other songs will be played.

**You do not have to own the subscription, of course, to listen to these few songs.

I had an idea to place some sort of intercom over the center lobby of our business- and like elevator tunes -since where I work is a Christian business, play Christian music. I didn't want to play KLOVE radio because some sounds/songs would be loud and distracting to customers who were shopping but the list I came up with, I put the label "Soft Christian Music" so, of course, the list contains soft music, *some of which I have already listed, some maybe more than once (*I shrank the size of the songs previously listed).

  • Divine Romance by Phil Wickham
  • All I Want Is You by Phil Wickham
  • Be Still by The Fray
  • Blessings by Laura Story
  • Broken Together by Casting Crowns
  • Come As You Are by Crowder
  • Fix My Eyes by Kings Kaleidoscope
  • Hymn For The Missing by Red
  • Let Them See You by Colton Dixon
  • Miles Away (Acoustic) by Memphis May Fire (I'm actually not 100% convinced on this song)
  • My Savior My God by Aaron Shust
  • Pieces by Red
  • Rest by Nevertheless
  • Rise by Shawn McDonald
  • Shattered by Trading Yesterday
  • Sinking Deep by Hillsong Young & Free
  • Through All Of It by Colton Dixon
  • Touch The Sky by Hillsong UNITED
  • Who Am I by Casting Crowns
  • You Are More by Tenth Avenue North
  • Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing by Chris Rice
  • Higher by Gungor

Here's a link the the radio created in similar to Gungor's Higher, I recommend listening to.

I love Christian music!
I'm going to listen/look up some of these previous mentioned songs but here are some of my personal favourites:

No Longer Slaves
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

Still
When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with you above the storm
Father, You are King over the flood
I will be still and know You are God

Find rest my soul
In Christ alone
Know His power
In quietness and trust

And this one is very well known but it means so much to me

Cornerstone
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus name

Christ alone; cornerstone
Weak made strong; in the Saviour's love
Through the storm, He is Lord
Lord of all

When Darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
My anchor holds within the veil

Christ alone; cornerstone
Weak made strong; in the Saviour's love
Through the storm, He is Lord
Lord of all
He is Lord
Lord of all

Christ alone
Christ alone; cornerstone
Weak made strong; in the Saviour's love
Through the storm, He is Lord
Lord of all

Christ alone; cornerstone
Weak made strong; in the Saviour's love
Through the storm, He is Lord
Lord of all

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless stand before the throne.

Great Christian songs!

Amazing grace, is another good one. I'm sure you would know it.

Blessings.

One song that is really great is mercyme's new song "flawless". Seriously an awesome song.

"No matter the bumps
No matter the bruises
No matter the scars
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless
No matter the hurt
Or how deep the wound is
No matter the pain
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless"

Your right. Songs about ocd probably wont help someone with ocd but i think it helps them to know that they are not the only ones who are suffering. There is a song by Lecrae called "desperate" (i dont know if i already recommended it or not) but he pretty much sings about what 80% of the people on this forum have struggled with. His feelings of being forgiven. in the end of the song he wins his battle.

Check out the band twenty one pilots. They're not a Christian band per say, but they are Christians. I would recommend "Drown" or "Blasphemy" by Tyler Joseph, and "Addict with a Pen," "Goner" or "Doubt" by the actual band. They are a little dark sometimes and address mental illness head on which may be triggering for some, but usually their songs talk about struggles and give hope. They're good at making you feel less alone.

One of my favorite lyrics is in Addict with a Pen "My trial was filed as a crazy suicidal head case, but You specialize in dying, You hear me screaming Father, and I'm lying here just crying, so wash me with Your water."
