To their disgrace, my PCA church uses grape juice!

My thought is that we should use excellent, dry red wine. The budget should be $20-$40 per bottle, where I live. I've also heard of using port, which would be great too, but I've never experienced it.

I once was a part of a church plant that used the finest wine in my cellar for communion, and I was also trying to source larger cups. Those "thimbles" are silly.

Since we just had the foot-washing reading from John in Mass, my mind immediately went to Peter's reply, "Well, if my feet, then my head and hands too." If we are going to commemorate the blood of Christ, then why not a whole mugful.

Those opposed to using wine do so because they believe it could make someone who has a sin problem with alcohol stumble.

By that logic, they had better also keep all of the attractive women out of sight as well. And what about all of the sugar-laden snacks piled high for coffee hour? While I'm at it, people with annoying children make me angry, and that causes me to sin. Keep the little nose-pickers away from me. . .

It should be obvious that we can't fence off all activities that might lead people into sin. It does't work, and it's exactly what the Pharisees tried by added all kinds of rules where God had not spoken.

Bread & wine.
