There are some very interesting parables/statements given by Jesus Christ regarding the end of the age. In Matthew there are three parables in a row which insinuate that it will be a long time before Christ returns. They also underline the unexpected nature of his coming:

"48 But if that evil slave says in his heart, ‘My master is not coming for a long time,’ 49 and begins to beat his fellow slaves and eat and drink with drunkards; 50 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour which he does not know, 51 and will cut him in pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Mt. 24:48-51 (NASB)

"5 Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep." Mt. 25:5 (NASB)

"19 “Now after a long time the master of those slaves *came and *settled accounts with them." Mt. 25:19 (NASB)

In two of these parables Christ underlines the unexpected nature of the return. He also says this:

"37 For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be." Mt. 24:37-39 (NASB)

"44 For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will." Mt. 24:44 (NASB)

It is interesting that we are warned over and over again of the unexpected nature of the coming of Christ. He seems to make this a point in his parables. Here's another example:

"35 Therefore, be on the alert—for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— 36 in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 What I say to you I say to all, ‘Be on the alert!’”" Mk. 13:35-37 (NASB)

Interesting. Thoughts?

Mt. 24:48-51 (NASB)

This says to me that a certain group of people who believe in jesus return will fall away because they believe the lord will not return for a long time....something may cause them to believe that he will not return for some time....they will misjudge his return and be judged according to their works

because of the belief in his delay, evil will enter their heart to commit sins towards mankind... 2 in particular...one is to beat fellow man....what sort of beating is not stated...but the next line is a clue...to eat and drink with drunkards.....it is my oppinion that drunkards refers to LAW...men drinking old wine causing men to judge and condemn by the law....in doing so, they will reap what they sow

There is a reference to hypocrites....which we know are men who say they love god yet do not obey his will which is to truly love one another and forgive sinners...hypocrites are also wolves in sheeps clothing....wolves that will steal kill destroy in the name of the law....

"5 Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep." Mt. 25:5 (NASB)

the effects of drinking old wine causing drowsy and sleep from good doctrine.. the opposite effects of new wine.....they say the old wine is better but clearly the new wine is life everlasting

"19 “Now after a long time the master of those slaves *came and *settled accounts with them.for " Mt. 25:19 (NASB)

eventually the lord returns unexpected

Interesting. Thoughts?

its possible that these men got caught up in the new coming era ..the new false messianic age built by man....and may even perhaps enjoyed the new coming era so much that they got lost in all its pleasures it will bring

It's interesting Jesus used the word slaves....Christians are not slaves.....We are sons and daughters made possible by Faith in the new covenant.....not slaves or servants....So who is Jesus referring to in the last days?

Paul also used the word slaves in a passage....

Galatians 4:31
Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.

Paul was referring to those bound to the law as slaves ...that the law causes bondage and slavery but the new covenant causes children of God who are free from the law

Free because Jesus becomes our righteousness which he parts to us by gift for Faith and obedience to his words ....He has fulfilled the law for us...He has obtained righteousness when he served under the law ....and he fulfilled it perfectly and is able to give this righteousness to anyone who ask

The word could be translated slaves or servants. It's commonly used in the NT to describe those who follow Christ.

can you give me some examples

my understanding is that we are no longer slaves or servants when we commit to the faith that jesus is our righteousness...we are counted as sons and daughters who do not trust in the law for salvation.....those that do are in bondage still as slaves and servants in his house....

a good example is found in john 15;15

i no longer call you servants because a servant does not know his masters business instead i call you friends for everything that i have learned of my father i have made known to you

this passage seems to suggest that servants or slaves do not yet fully understand the power of the gospel and all that it implies

Just look at the opening of any one of Paul's letters. He calls himself the servant/slave of Jesus Christ.

Strange for him to do so...I don't consider myself a servant or a slave ..does a servant or slave call his master father as we do?

Because Paul calls God Father yet also says he is a servant/slave of Christ.

Well he was directly commission to spread the gospel by direct revelation...So in that sense he was a slave bond himself to witness to the gentiles...that makes sense to me

I'd like to call attention to the unexpected and sudden nature of the return of Christ. He's quite serious about this in his statements regarding the eschaton. Any thoughts?

there will be another false jesus who appeared suddenly...perhaps the many who are deceived will not be looking for the true jesus ...and will be caught unaware....because they believe he is already here....

Another interesting fact about Christ's statements regarding the eschaton is that in several of them he indicates that he will be away a long time (i.e., "the bridegroom tarried"). Very interesting stuff. I think the reason why he's tarrying is that he must be doing so for the sake of the elect: he's trying to save as many as possible before he intervenes.

Well, the beast is presented as a false God/Christ in the book of Revelation. The big question is why exactly they think of the beast as God.

2 scenarios I can think of

One
Jesus is God which is which was which is to come the almighty....a false Jesus could be seen and worship as God...through false miracles and prophetic manipulations

two ..there is the belief that God himself will come to earth to live with men...so a man could come claiming to be the God of heaven and earth...the alpha and omega...a false prophets paves the way for him to be worship as God

I have often heard it explained this way too. However I have a different supposition. I am not saying it is right so don't cut my head off, just, think about it.^_^. What if It is like His burial. He was in the grave three days. What if He is coming back on the third day^_^ like^_^ He did in the resurrection?

2Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

That could be a hint. Lord Jesus has been gone a little over two days.I guess you could say we are in the early hours of the third day since this is 2015.

Yeah that would mean we have another 1000 years or less before he return...it's only been 2 days approximately

That is a long time to tarry.... a lot can happen until then

Not that I disagree with you

I would not hold to that theory though because if we believe the Lord will yet tarry for another 1000 years ...then men will say the Lord tarries and they will begin to become drunken and begin to beat his fellow man....then the Lord will come when they are not expecting him...
