Here are a few more from Youtube roulette!

Ironic the way Youtube roulette worked out, got the first then into a bunch of junk, but when I 'reset' by scrolling down and selecting the second song I kept likeing every song for a while.

Just playing youtube roulette again. I hadn't heard this in years. It is quite coverable.

Great song, reminded me of the songs in Dr. Zhivago and Fiddler on the Roof.
But now it's stuck in my head!

"Just Walk Away Rene." Great song. interesting story.

The guitarist was seeing the lead singer of the band's girl friend on the side. He finally decided 2 timing with his friend's gf was not cool so he broke it off and wrote this song to deal with his emotional state following the break up. When he presented it to the band the lead singer got very mad at him but liked the tune.

So when they recorded it, there was no guitar part.

Here are a few more. The first is actually new to me, but I suspect it is a very old song.

The last I've heard and remembered fondly, but it was the Terry Jacks version and the words are different. VERY different.

Ella I want to thank you fro creating this thread, it has led me to wander through the folk music of the 60s and find both old favorites and songs new to me that brought me joy.

I expect I'll add at least one more post soon as I've been listening to some of the Kingston Trio and The Brothers Four and I've noticed some songs are covered over and over.

So here are songs from links I pasted into notepad:

Yup at least one more to come, 500 Miles.

I think the "Cups" song from Pitch Perfect was originally from the 1930s.

Yup, written by A.P. Carter in 1931 and performed by the Carter family, one of the biggies in country music. I'm not big on country save for The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and when they were asked if they were bluegrass they said no, they are a traditional American music band and that includes some Bluegrass.

The Carters have been on a couple of the Dirt Band's albums.

Here are videos of Perfect Pitch and the Carters.

I just discovered this and am in love. Bernie Sanders should get on it for his campaign, haha.

It's from the 70s so slightly outside of the parameter I set when I created the thread, but still grooving with my purpose of it.

Just this last weekend I found out about a band I had never heard of before called Red Nichols and the 5 Pennies. Band Leader Nichols was a proponent of Dixieland jazz and a really hot trumpet player. He formed the band in 1929 and they toured for most of the 30s. He left the road when his daughter contracted polio so he went to work as a shipbuilder in the run up to WW2.

His band members included: Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Glen Miller and Gene Krupa. All led very successful bands after leaving Nichols.

I was introduced to Rait by my college roommate back in the fall of '73.

Incredible slide guitar work. She is the only female lead guitarist in the business that has managed to STAY in the business for longer than a year or 2.
