im sure this topic has been beat to death but I would like to know what you believe the goal you have in the eternities. I would like to hear from all of you but especially the Muslim perspective. If you don't believe in the next life I would like to know that there is one how would you like it to be.

No idea, I'm not in a hurry to find out, I'm still discovering this Life.

Did you notice, I've found the ' button, woohoo!

Always hated the idea of eternity, I truly believe an eternal existence would be a pointless existence. i assume you meant that if thier is one you'd like to hear what we would like it to be. I dunno I always liked the idea of becoming one with nature if you die you know? become one with the wind and trees.

To be in the presence of God.

"When the soul attaineth the Presence of God, it will assume the form that best befitteth its immortality and is worthy of its celestial habitation."

Honestly, I have no idea about next life. I have my beliefs, but they are only "beliefs". I'll find out when I died, I guess. My relationship with God and having Him as my reality in life has nothing to do with any goals having to do with "eternities?"

I think I'd like to look back on my life in its whole scope and hope I do well enough.

Plus I hope I can spend eternity in a pleasant place, meeting many people throughout history in some sort of state of bliss. I don't want to be all knowing; I just want access to resources that can make me learn more and more information that would be beyond the grasp of a mortal. As far as my goal in the afterlife; I'm not sure. If you live somewhere for eternity can you goals?

Jane the Bane beat me to it, but...

My finite existence as a human being is my eternity. It is the bounds of my universe.

If you don't believe in the next life I would like to know that there is one how would you like it to be.

Sure, I would like to wake up only to be told that upon my death, I was put into cryonic suspension. They won't tell me the year yet... that can wait for tomorrow until after I have had some rest. They can tell me that I was frozen in liquid nitrogen, and the information stored in my frozen brain was fortunate to have survived long enough to be a candidate for uploading into a genetically modified clone body based on my DNA. I have been regenerated as a thirty year old version of my former self and, given that I am a GMO human, my aging will be slowed as well and I am virtually immortal. Even if I do die, I can make backups of myself that can be restored to a new clone body as needed, assuring my continued existence. I am advised to make frequent save points. I am told that while society is different from what I might expect, I will certainly make new friends and can have a decent life. Now, I really should get some rest. I have a long life ahead of me.

I have given up trying to figure out 'eternity'. Top votes for me are;

1) Reincarnation

Seems to make some sense. Either the Buddhist idea of samsara or the gnostic idea of the Black Iron Prison. Trying to escape the samsara/prison and all that.

2) Annihilation

Could kinda go with reincarnation in a way but I sometimes have doubts our personalities survive death so perhaps it's just our essence. So whether we move on or not, our personalities that are experiencing the here and now possibly won't exist in our next stop. Or it could just be that we cease to exist all together, but I doubt that. My journeys have lead me to doubt that there isn't at least a small piece of us that moves on.

3) Daemons, HGA, Groudhog Day

This one is rapidly gaining ground in my books. The idea that we live the same life over and over. Kinda like the samsara but we don't really change in each rebirth, we just take what we gained in our last life and apply it to the next. Of course we don't remember our past lives, but it's in our unconscious. We can learn alot by tapping into our unconscious and learning from our 'higher self'. There are many names for the 'higher self' from Daemon to the occultic idea of the Holy Guardian Angel. Basically this being, which is really us in a higher form, knows everything about our lives and tries to help us live that 'perfect' life. For what ends? Who knows... The dangers of this path can be that you are pretty much 'hacking' your mind and conscious. Sometimes with detrimental effects to your brain. Although if you're persistent and have some techniques for controlling your thoughts you should be ok. Whether we are meant to delve into our unconscious life this is up for debate. Perhaps it's like skipping ahead our 'place in line'.

That's sort of what I believe. I believe that after death we continue to progress and after the judgement we continue to grow no matter where we are at. That we are all on different levels of understanding and commitment of obedience. All will be given a chance to reach perfection but some take longer than others. Those with a higher level of motivation and commitment will reach the final goal much earlier than those with less.

I think
only if it is the same soul in a new body in the present World,
as many times as is needed.

But only up to the time of ressurection and the World to come,

Ressurection is the reunification of the soul with the former body (newly reconstituted)
Ressurection is a time of reward,
Reincarnation is a time of repair.

Interesting. From my perspective I see parts that is acceptable. I think it is a much broader picture though.

The whole concept goes over my head somewhat,
but for me it makes more sense than just stopping at,

if need be, the soul is cleansed in purgatory.

What goes around comes around,
if there a known wrong I have commited and I have not made amends (done repentence)
I must not be surprised if I'm sent in another body and have it commiited against me.

Having of course no recollection of a previous "Life".

This for me would explain much,
Why did this happen to me? For example.

Do unto your fellow as you would him do to you.
(there are a few variations) but more or less same.

This would be completely meaningless if there were not consequences.

Part of the consequence would be not receiving the blessings of obedience.

If I might be somewhat cryptic and brief in my response, the goal is to be human.

As an expansion of that idea,

"Jesus is God’'s word, God’'s idea of God, how God understands himself. He is how-God-understands-himself become a part of our human history, become human, become the first really thoroughly human part of our history— and therefore, of course, the one hated, despised, and destroyed by the rest of us, who wouldn't mind being divine but are very frightened of being human." - Fr. Herbert McCabe

In Jesus we see what is really and actually human. That's the goal.
