I guess I did leave and forgot about this place. I checked my webmail and found a bunch of emails from here and checked back. Nice to see you again, Ella and congrats on getting in to Stanford!! I hear there is like a 5 percent admit rate there. Impressive!!
Thanks for the room tips.
Perhaps just splashes of colours will be the key.
What do you mean by tapestries? Like quilts?

Aw, it's sweet that people from CF wrote to you and that prompted you to return. Thanks for the congrats. Stanford has lassoed my heart around it, and I've even come to find my tiny room that is the size of a glorified shoebox to be endearing haha.

Some tapestries are weightier and more ornate, and have textures more like quilts. Most that are popular in college dorms are far thinner and more like a sheet consistency, but are decorative. Many dorm rooms have unattractive cinder block walls, and one of the appeals of a tapestry is that the size of it lets you cover such a swath of eyesore. I don't have cinder blocks but my walls are just very plain. This isn't my room, but I had a similar tapestry and it gives you an idea of what it looks like in a dorm room:

You can see others here: http://fyeahcooldormrooms.com/search/tapestry

Urban Outfitters has a lot of affordable tapestries if you're ever interested in one. I got mine from there and from DENY. The cool thing about DENY is that you can actually submit photos or your artwork and have it put onto a tapestry. I had pictures of some paintings that I've since sold put onto tapestries, and now my mom has them in her home office.

YouTube has a lot of room tours if you're ever wanting ideas for how to decorate yours. :)

What are dorm rooms at Stanford like?

They vary in size and features depending on the dorm or house you're living in. The commonalities are single beds that are higher up off the ground so that you can fit storage underneath (though many people will loft their beds), the same basic furniture, and having landscaping crews working outside your window who use leaf blowers far too early on a Saturday morning, haha. Most frosh live in a double room that they share with another frosh. I have a few medical issues so I was given a single room even though this is my first year.

My room is identical in size and layout to hers because I'm in the same dorm. I just have a slightly different view. As you can see, I'm not exaggerating about it being the size of a glorified shoebox. :D

I live in the upstairs at my parent's place. It's small and cramped but it's home :) have a Jeremy camp post on the ceiling (it slopes) a little bookshelf and a nightstand with a Tiffany style lamp my grandma gave me.

Any changes........ some drywall for one thing. Bare wood is pretty but it's kinda dark. Short of changing the whole structure of enlarging and making a flat ceiling, some floral curtains would be lovely.

From the description it sounds charming. :)

My aunt gave me frames for Christmas but I haven't decided what pictures I'll put in them or where I'll hang them. They're still stacked up on my floor, lol.

Sounds like you need some Pinspiration!

Would you paint your room lavender at 16? Idk if it's too much of a little girl color.

I'm 16 and I did paint my room lavender this year, lol. I love it. It's a very light grayish lavender so it's not little girl lavender.

I do need some Pinspiration, lol. Thx, I'll look there for ideas. A lot of ppl just put frames on the wall w/o anything in them. It kinda looks nice. Helps with indecisiveness about what to frame. :D A light lavender gray sounds really pretty. Yeah the lavender I liked is more pastel & I think I might get tired of it. I'll have to look at the lavender grays the next time we go to Lowes.

I had absolutely adored my room for years but I feel like I've grown out of its decor now. The walls are a bright leaf green with a mural of vines and songbirds wrapping around the room. It used to feel so charming to me but now it looks like Shrek has bled out on my walls, haha. The green is just SO bright. I like something more serene. I also need to update my bedding and art. I still have a SpongeBob Squarepants poster on my bathroom door. I'm considering repainting and updating it this week before school gets into full swing. I dislike it now and yet a part of me doesn't want to change it. I'm so sentimental sometimes.

I'm wondering what your room is like is what you'd change about it if you could. :)

EDIT:

I accidentally posted in this in the Christians only teen common area, but any teen or young adult is welcome to participate in this thread regardless as to whether or not they are a Christian. :)

I'm at the Buzz Cafe atm so I can't take pictures to show my whole room. This is a picture I already have on my phone from when I wrote a review of the duvet cover I got for my birthday. I got a new decorative pillow for it but it's not in the picture because I just bought it.

4j7rdv.jpg

In person the wall colour looks a little different. It's more of a grayish lavender but I guess because the sun was bright that day it doesn't look as gray. The bedding is a light gray.

On the other side of the bed I have the same nightstand but a bigger, prettier lamp. I also have a picture frame with a picture of me and my sister, and a candle. My vanity is on that side of the room. It's from IKEA and I like it a lot.
I have a fake orchid plant on it. The real one kept dying, lol. I have a really long white wall shelf above it that has more framed pictures, some souvenir stuff from trips, tea light candles in little clear glass holders, and these IKEA vases that hold stuff like nail polish and lip balm. My bookcase is on that side. I like my room. I'd like to change out my wall mirrors. I'm pretty happy with the rest. It has a pretty view. My room is connected to a bathroom that connects to my sister's room, but since she's at college now it's all mine most of the year.

I love your rooms. I've only been to the one at your mom's house & your lake house but from the videos and pictures of your room at your dad's house it's really charming. I'm pretty sure that's the one you're talking about here. I don't think it's Shrek green, lol. It's very pretty and happy. I like your room at the lake house the best I think. It's very calm but not boring. The view is incredible. I love that big mirror and the candle things.

edit. Thanks, Butterfly!

My room .. is best described as messy. Since I do my school work in my room, there's papers and school books all over the place. My room has not been painted in over 15 years and it's just a plain white. There is drawings on one side of the room from when my little brothers had this room. My mom and I have talked about painting it numerous times, but have never gotten around to it. I would pick a deep red and white if I were to paint it. Another thing I feel really needs an updates is my blanket. When I was little I loved horses, but now my horse blanket seems a bit juvenile for a 17 year old.

Since I named a number of bad things about my room, I should probably name some good things too. I have my beautiful antique violin hanging on my wall. There is this beautiful painting on my wall, that was painted by my aunt. The painting is of a girl with long flowing hair, playing her violin in a grassy field by a horse. Their is a cat commonly sleeping on my bed, and I must say he makes a great decoration, and there is my dog who is usually sleeping on my floor. My dog is my favorite thing in my room.

:) Cats do make the most charming and delightful decoration, and dogs are always better than any material possession you could have in your room. My pets are my favorite things in my room, too. My cat has a way of communicating that she's decided I've been studying too much and need to give her some undivided attention, haha.

You can always paint your room if you ever decide to, and you can always tidy it up. The beautiful violin and painting, and your cherished pets are what already make it special. Thanks for replying to my thread. I'm happy it's been revived.

LOL! Your cat's got attitude!!!

I want a cat so much but my brother is allergic so we can't have one. How many do you have, Ella?

What's that painting of on your desk? It's pretty. Did you make that?

@Stanfordella My cat does the same thing, except he will go right on my laptop's keypad. He's jealous of the attention going to my laptop I guess. X) Cats are so weird.

Our cats definitely have cattitude, haha.

Oops I skipped over the post by @Butterfly99 inadvertently!

Thanks for the compliment on the painting. No, I didn't paint it. I bought it in Zadar, Croatia.

In total we have six cats, though they are not all living in the same house. My parents are divorced, and we have two cats at my dad's house and the kittens are at my mom's. We were taking care of my brother's cat after he moved, and she had become mine. My dad just brought her over to my brother because he was missing her so much. Now I miss her, but I know how elated he is to have her again, and that she's very happy there too.
