I need someone to stimulate my mind more than anything else. Someone that I can relate to, have fun with and grow old together. you can't be sure of getting that and you certainly can't be sure of her intentions unless you spend so quality time together over an extended amount of time. You also need to go into couples thrapy together in order to see if you two are on the same sheet of music. Marriage is not a small thing and shouldn't be taken that way. Mail order brides are an older version of internet dating and how many times has that worked out for you?

Not a fan of mail-order when I ordered some plant seeds, turned out they were weeds. When I complained, they tried to justify it by saying they were only weeds in AUSTRALIA.

Imagine if women held men to this standard when choosing a spouse...we'd be even farther from hitting the replacement rate.

My only concerns besides disease would be whether he/she cheated on or assaulted anyone. I'm not sure how sexual experience inherently prevents someone from internalizing effective parenting methods. If that were the case, people would become worse parents as they make more children.

They should. Personally, I have absolutely no problem with men being held to the same standard.

I don't know what beliefs you hold when it comes to religion, but most Christians try to instill in their children the belief that fornication is a sin. Those with a history of indiscriminant behaviors have no moral authority. The old "do as I say, not as I did" reeks of hypocrisy.

Actually, there are very few countries which drive on the left hand side of the road, so its not just an American thing.

Right now I am looking for a wife. I seriously thought about trying to find a mail order bride many years ago, but I focused my options on countries which were majority Christian and spoke English. That left out most of Europe. The only real Asian option was the Philippines. But, as I began to learn more about the RP, and some peculiar customs/beliefs they have, I ruled them out. There was one in particular that really bothered me, but I wont go into that.

Unfortunately, at my age, quality ladies are extremely rare.

I mentioned in PM. But Taiwanese are really solid and more Westernized. Perhaps that'd be an option.

She would have to be a Christian and old fashioned.

Maybe come and work in one of the (very few) Baptist churches in Taiwan for a month or twelve, even if you don't make any lady friends who want to start a relationship, you could get some valuable ministry experience and have a better understanding of Taiwan and the women who live here.

I don't have a problem with it, but nor am I going to claim that I know who has self-respect and who doesn't based on my own personal and subjective criteria for a spouse.

I don't see how it could be objectively insulting to me that someone had sex with other people before our relationship started. It had nothing to do with me.

It isn't about being "insulting". Its about moral character or the lack thereof. Its about sin and about how seriously someone views marriage, and not just after they are married. I don't think that only women should be virgins, so should men. You cant fool God by feigning ignorance of the facts. He knows your heart.

I agree that Christians should stay abstinent until we marry. However, not all people grow up as Christians. Sometimes people live in sin for a long time, and then they meet Jesus and become converted. If Jesus has forgiven their sins I wouldn't hold their past against them.
