• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

You are in my prayers, dear sister in Christ. I myself have had so much heartache, my husband has Parkinson's Disease, but trusting God for my future.
Here are some scriptures to strengthen and encourage you:
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

. . .there is a future for the person of peace. (Psalm 37:37)

There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. (Proverbs 23:18)

Jesus said, "Behold, I am coming soon!" (Revelation 22:12)

Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. (Psalm 42:5)

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade -- kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power. (1 Peter 1:3-5)

As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. (James 5:11)

The LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. (Psalm 147:11)

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God's word is not chained. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

HANG IN THERE MY SISTER IN CHRIST!

This is really creepy , would you all please pray for me? My name is ----- and I really feel that if you as an organization would all pray for me then I would be delivered from dual addictions, drugs and alcohol. And if not then in spite of all my sins and behavior I am still loved, forgiven and saved by God and Jesus Christ our Savoir. I do not believe that God is out to get us. Do you?

It is very easy to say that addictions are as simplistic as masking a feeling. Yes, we do want to hide from all that [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse],but at the same time we want to be acknowledged . We are here and in spite of all the darkness and loneliness that we experiencing we are still here. To say otherwise is pompous and judgmental...

For the biggest part of the last 20 yrs. I have been addicted to something and anything. I had begun to use meth again, and I feared it a lot cause I knew that it already had me. On July 28, 2014, I was suffering many demonic attacks. I had to constantly for hours, keep rebuking satan in Jesus' Name. The next morning The Lord led me to the backyard, and that's where I got born again and received the baptism of the spirit, July 29, 2014. I was instantly delivered from meth, alcohol, and inhalants. The addiction to pain medicine was not removed, I struggle daily. I constantly feel condemned, it breaks my heart to fail The Lord. I called an old friend who is very close to God and who has the gift of prophecy. Well, she said "isn't God bigger than a pill?" She prophecied to me, The Lord said that if I stay on the path I'm on in seeking Him and His righteousness, that He would deliver me from this thing. I do trust that God honors His word. I also believe what the Bible says about He that has begun a good work, will bring it to completion. I do give most of every day to Jesus, doing Bible courses that I get through the mail, study God's Word, and I pray constantly.
God knows where your at with Him, He knows if you are sorrowful over this and if you desire this change for Him, and I believe that He is going to free us, who love him. If someone like Paul could have a problem with sin, then that shows that anyone can. Romans 6. Sometimes, everything doesn't go away overnight.
If you don't give up, He won't give up.

Since I have re-dedicated my life to Christ, I have given in to temptation and used 3 times within this past week. I feel SOO Guilty. I know what the Bible says about forgiveness but I feel like God will have enough and is tired of hearing my pleas for help and forgiveness. I just need to hear from someone else who has been in my shoes. How did you deal when you got saved and gave in to the temptation to use again. How long did it take you? I know that God is stronger than any addiction, and i know that the Bible says that he will always forgive us of our sins but i feel so helpless right now.

I deeply feel I have failed to many times too. And it overwhelms my heart with sorrow and a deep despair.

I have not given my heart and soul over to God. And it seems I will never full do so or want so. I am always so easily persuaded by my own lies and deceptions in my head.

I suffer from dual addiction. It is a very hard trap for me.

God the Father and Jesus have been very merciful on me. I put hope in their freeing me.

I know that it feels impossible. I know that you feel hopeless. The devil is telling you that you couldn't possibly be saved and have this kind of problem, and that you are doomed for hell. If we could stop by ourselves, we already would have, no one likes their happiness depending upon whether we have some kind of dope or alcohol. If you have truly given your heart to The Lord, He is definitely working behind the scenes. Most of us have other horrible things embedded in us that may be needed removal quicker, who knows how He chooses to clean us up and in what order He chooses to deliver us. It is going to be in His perfect timing, and our perfect timing.
I mess up nearly every day, I'm sick without pills still. But, I see so many other areas in my life that He's working on me.
Don't condemn yourself or let the devil make you feel condemned. Keep trusting, even when it's hard. Keep believing and He'll keep moving your mountains.
All if this in your life is for a reason. Once you are delivered, and you will believe if you keep serving and seeking The Lord, He will use you as a bright shining light in the lives of other addicts who are dealing with this darkness. There are so many addicts, other than Jesus, who can be the next best help, but someone who has been through it.
Once we're free, God's gonna have a great job for us to help pull the souls out if the fire.
We are going to make it to freedom. Dr. God is at work in us right this minute. Please, I beg, don't give up.

Thank you for all of your encouraging responses, at times it's not easy hearing the truth about ones addictions. I thank you for all of your prayers and I do apoligize if I've come across as rude. I'll pray for you as well . We are not hopeless and I truly believe that otherwise we would have given up. Anyways thanx again....:wave::wave:

Right now I am gonna pray for all of the addicts
Father God, there are many hurting, sad, and hopeless people here who are truly wanting free from their addictions. Jesus, I ask that you give these beautiful people peace. Replace their hopelessness with hope and great expectancy that you are working behind the scenes getting them ready for the freedom that you are getting ready to give them. Uphold them and calm their fears and doubt. Help them to continue believing that you want what's best for them. Father, their hearts are crying out for freedom from these substances that they have been use to living with for so long. Let them know that joy is coming in the morning. These people are hurting, please help them in every area of their life. Get them ready for this big change that is coming their way. We praise, adore, and love you with all of our hearts. The devil is telling them to give up, that they will never win this battle. Let them know that these are only lies, and let them know that he wants them to give up. Help them to hold on to You. In Jesus' name, Amen

For those who are struggling when you feel tempted talk to the Lord and read His word. For 15 years now I have been Alcohol,Drug and Tobacco free and it has been the Lord who has kept me from relapsing when temptation came my way.Now I hate the smell of Alcohol, tobacco and weed and have no desire to use any of those drugs anymore.

2nd John 9
"Whosoever transgresseth(breaks any of the old law {1st John 3:4}) and abideth not in the doctrine(teachings) of Christ hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son."

What has been lost in modern times is what this verse specifically means.
All you have to do is follow the commands of Christ - Matthew 5 through Matthew 7 and Luke 6. Then you will be granted a more full dose of the Holy Spirit - John 14:15-17, Acts 5:32, Hebrews 6:1-3
the Holy Spirit will then give you the supernatural power you need to break free from your addiction.

Therefore simply focus on following Christs teachings and everything else will fall into place by the power of Christ.

The laws of Christ are summoned up in one statement -
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Matthew 7:12.

Which means for example, when in traffic, do not assume anything about the person who cut you off, or who is driving slowly in front of you, try not to assume anything about anyone, for we are not to judge - Matthew 7:1. Love your neighbor as yourself - Lev 19:18.

If you want big miracles, then follow all of Christs commands literally, the hardest for us would be Luke 12:33, Matthew 6:19-20, but it is following the commands of Christ literally that leads to big miracles happening, and is what Paul was referring to in 1st Corinthians 4:11-16

Gods chosen people are still on the road to salvation. They still have a few more things they have to get wrong before Jesus returns and saves them all. If God has that much patience with an entire group of people he will have patience with you.
Along with repenting one thing you can do that can help is praying to be completely free of such addictions. I mean that in an all in kind of way. That you pray for all things in your life that lead to such moments of weakness be removed. All people, all objects, all thoughts, all physical cravings, all places that lead you to relapse be removed long enough for you to be completely delivered from such addiction. Some strongholds take a much more radical approach to get rid of than others. God knows your heart more than your mind does. If your heart wants to go back to your old ways that is what you will be given. If your heart only wants to worship Jesus then God will move heaven and earth to remove any problem you have that prevents you from doing that. May the Holy Spirit give you what you need to overcome.

First and foremost you must decide to give up an addiction. The reason most people can't abstain is because they haven't decided to give them up in their HEART.. We do it in our heads - and also in our hearts.
If we have sincerely decided to give up an addiction we need to really understand how much God loves us and is there to help us in any way possible. God needs us as much as we need Him! this is something a lot of Christians do not realise. You need a two-way relationship where you BOTH love one another. He needs to be told you love Him do this frequently and listen for His voice, understand how much He loves you, develop that two-way relationship with Him - even if you have weakened in an addiction still talk to Him treat Him as your mate. Realise that He is WITH you in that addiction and a worry shared is often a worry cleared.
Once you have that deep relationship with the Lord you 'together' do your best to avoid the addiction. If you slip up the most important thing then
is NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. The more you worry about it the worse it will be. This goes for a whole lot of things like Insomnia (that I have suffered from all my life) I say - so what! if I can't sleep - I will enjoy myself on the computer or with a book etc Somehow I always seem to get enough sleep that way without taking drugs - not at the same time as others! but that doesn't worry me
I do not regard masturbation as a sin but a natural part of life. People become obsessed through guilt and worry from antiquated church teachings and again - the more you worry about it the more compulsive you become so just stop worrying.
Many of these old doctrines that bind the flock were written by ministers that were bound themselves. Christians need to come out of bondage from old church dogma and live in freedom with Jesus

Thanks for your reply. I spent 30 days tracking my behavior and focusing on healthy habits. Finally I stopped tracking and decided to use my free will to choose healthy habits. You are right when you say your behavior will follow that which you dwell on.

I'm glad to see you happier now. Just remember that in God's eyes no one sin is any worse than the next - and we are ALL sinners none of us are perfect.
If you see the problem as harmful to your health rather than a sin it may help. Guilt is not necessary and in itself is a barrier to your progress

Hang in there. Relapse is a common set back on the road to recovery. Don't beat yourself up over it because that kind of catastrophic thinking can be dangerous for ones sobriety. You might not miraculously change overnight. Habits that have been ingrained by repeated behavior over long periods of ones life often take considerable time and effort to let go. This goes even for relatively small changes let alone such a major reprogramming that's involved in overcoming drug addiction.

I've had a few relapses since first making the decision to give up heroin and other recreational drugs about 9 years ago. Normally said relapses might last a week or two then I would come back to my senses. It becomes easier over time. I have been able to avoid relapse with heroin for over 4 years now. I don't even think much about it now. Relapse is still possible however so I stay on guard.

I've found that my biggest problem is an excessive desire for comfort and an irrational fear of discomfort or pain. Causes me to flee hardship rather than manning it up and facing it head on. I'm trying to fix that by studying Stoic philosophy and using some of their disciplines and practices. Cognitive behavioral therapy helps too and seems to have many of the same insight as the old school Hellenic philosophers. CBT is worth looking in to imo. You might find it helpful too.
