We planted a bunch along with okra, corn, green beans, radishes, squash and other things. We have 3 growing seasons here and it is really not corn time, but we are trying it. We did have to put a chicken wire fence around it but not because of rabbits but because of iguanas.

Iguanas? Where in the world are you that you have iguana problems? Mexico?

Belize. I tried to upload a picture of a big iguana in the backyard with a tail that is 4 feet long at least.

Let's see if it works or if I break the site.

That is cool~~~a close Mexican friend told me a story about when he was a kid he got these white blotches on his face. His dad took him to town and a fellow had iguanas in a bag. He took out one of the iguanas, killed it, and bled it out into mugs to drink. His dad had him drink the blood, and his dad drank some too. The blotches went away and never came back...when I see/hear about iguanas I always remember his story :)

I hadn't heard of anything like that. We do have a bunch around here along the river. We have other kinds, too. One small one got in between our sliding screen and the back door, then couldn't get out til I went around and opened the screen

Are they aggressive at all? Do the locals eat them?

No, they aren't aggressive. They run away. I haven't heard of anyone eating them. Must not taste good.

We do have the 'royal rat' that is eaten. The Gibnut was served to Queen Elizabeth on a visit once.

Dern rabbit ate some of ours. Just a bite. Did not like it so it tried the next one. Did not like that one either so it went on to the next. Same thing so we end up with a bunch of cucumbers with one bite out of them.
Dern rabbit.

Rabbit boxes. Trap em, then kill and dress em. Fine eatin'. They eat your cukes, you eat them.

This reminds me of when, as a young teen, we kept some rabbits. A friend then bought them from us to butcher for food. They were pretty easy to keep though his butchering method was rather barbaric I found out later...:swoon:

Applied for an internal job..currently I work in "dough prep"...make $20 an hour BUT the hours are insane and the equipment is not in the best shape..applied for a housekeeping position..3d shift but normal hours w/o craziness of 1st shift "dough prep". $3 an hour cut in pay but worth it...

Well, there are only three main ways to dispatch small game. You can shoot them. You can cut their throats. You can break their necks. For kept rabbits, I wouldn't waste a bullet. Cutting their throats can limit the pelts, if you are going to use all of the rabbit. So, its best to break/wring their necks. They die instantly. Then, you can skin and clean them.

Yeah...we were kids...this friend of mine took a knife and basically started sawing off the rabbit's head...kinda tough to watch :help: learned later of more humane ways of doing things...

I was fortunate. I was taught to clean animals at an early age. If someone started "sawing off" the head of a live animal in front of me, even as a kid, I would have stopped them.

That's ok. Even kids who grew up near me didn't grow up the same way I did. At 8, most kids thought a drawknife was something you used to carve your initials or pictures in wood.
