Now I find out from my granddaughter not to try Windows 10 because the reason it's free because it's just in Beta testing! Don't be a guinea pig like I was!
So how am I getting this to you now? I paid 299.95 to a company in India (My Phone Support, 855-698-3249, but would have been 99.95 to get one-time support for one computer) that had me restart my computer and not log in normally. Chabab said it would take 2 hours, but after 24 hours it was still "restarting". He scheduled a local tech to come the next day or so, but meanwhile I re-booted the computer and now it works fine, back on Windows 7.
Even better, an 18-years old told me the good thing is Windows 8.1. Good because he's even younger than my granddaughter? Partly, but his dad works full-time in IT.

Are you telling me my granddaughter was wrong? The evidence is there for all to see in the flood of postings everywhere on the internet on how bad Windows 10 is. Call it Gamma version till the cows come home, it's still no better than a beta version.
Too bad the Seattle Microsoft Windows phone numbers were always busy day and night. There's proof positive that Windows 10 is a beta test, they were overwhelmed with frantic customers who had no idea they were guinea pigs for beta testing.
So I had no way to know there was a remove feature. Even the experts in India thought it would take only two hours to remove it, but it was still seeming like it was processing the next day. However, upon rebooting it disappeared. Hallelujah!

Yes your granddaughter was wrong.
Been using Win 10 on multiple systems without issues, Using on my Old Gateway Laptop that came with 7 right now without issue.

Those experts in India ripped you off.(assuming they're even MS Experts and not con artist)

Maybe so. But the blame falls first on Microsoft for its defective product and its refusal to provide any reasonable degree of support even by so little as a recorded message advising Windows 10 victims some standard "out" or somewhere else to contact.
WORST IS THAT THEY CONTINUED AND CONTINUE TO PLAGUE WINDOWS 7 USERS with reminders to "upgrade" to Windows 10 when they KNOW THEY CANNOT PROVIDE EVEN ANSWERING THEIR PHONES!

Yup, I too am saying she's wrong, but don't let the facts get in the way of family. Having installed it, and uninstalled it, all for free, I am highly confident I know what I'm talking about.

And I've already opted out of the notifications. That's a simple setting, at least in windows 8.

I don't have Windows 8 (pretty universally condemned, wasn't it?), I have Windows 7.
As I said, the 18-year old son of our Barbershop Chorus's IT guru says I should install Windows 8.1. Is that what you have?
(Of course I'll have to ask my granddaughter first--just kidding!)

Look, I asked about WINDOWS 8.1, not Windows 8 in general. I have no reason to trust Microsoft for Windows 10 nor for Windows 8 IN GENERAL, but is Windows 8.1 that "Eight point one" one particular safe product?
Nor can I trust Microsoft for Windows 7, of course, and they no longer support it, and my posts do keep vanishing, sometimes permanently. NO WAY TO RUN A RAILROAD! as they used to say.
But Google Chrome is worse. I exit out of a distant link, and it disappears--but so does everything else leading up to it!

It's probably best to know a tiny bit about computers first. Windows 8.1 is windows 8...with updates. Those are needed. But it will say windows 8, version 8.1.

Google Chrome is the most secure browser out there. Governments are moving towards it.

Reminds me of a story I heard: Hey, just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean there's not someone out to get you.

Has it ever dawned on anyone that we are paying for the privilege of being frustrated by a machine that is so intricate that we must pay others to tweak it. We have to pay to aquire it,. We must pay to get on the internet and then pay for software to protect ourselves from the internet and then pay in the form of effort to remain on the internet, just so we can come to places like this site to be frustrated and irritated by those who don't agree with us.

Dose this sound like rational people or people who have become addicted to the feeling of connecting to a world that can be disposed of by a flip of a switch. Does this in any way seem like a healthy activity for anyone? lol

The phone calls are a scam....go to the Windows website, type windows phone scam in search window. You got scammed out of $300. Be glad you did not give him access to your bank account.

For those who are being bothered by Microsoft's efforts to get you to upgrade to Windows 10; which I have and like, here is a program that you can download from the developer Josh Mayfield; called GWX control panel, that will stop the reminders to upgrade to Win10:

http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/

Which is explained in this article:

http://www.computerworld.com/articl...intrusive-new-windows-10-upgrade-tactics.html

As someone who has been into electronics for 45 years and computers for over 20 years; I am amazed that people listen to people about computers when their only qualification is there youth. My kids, grandkids, and other young relatives and other's are for the most part, computer illiterate; all they know is how to dial there mobile phone.:)
Sometimes a little experience helps, like when not to send money to India.
