praying!
Brinny........ I believe that I just got a message on Facebook that is Messiah Yeshua - Jesus setting up the answer to your prayers for this couple!
Hi Dennis, thought you may be interested in this. As you may know my wife Angel and I felt led to leave everything we knew and make the move to Cape Breton. After two years of our house being on the market, nothing was happening. Then finally, within a couple days of each other Angel got accepted to take her nursing at NSCC in Sydney and our house got the very first offer that closed the deal. We moved up shortly before Christmas of 2013. I obtained a job offer from Carabin Woodworks the same day after calling an old friend. God was setting everything up.
We knew God called us to this place even in the first hard months of transitioning to a new place. We soon found out and saw first hand Cape Bretons need of a radical touch of Gods love.
We purchased a home in New Waterford and we watched as God was opening up doors for us to fill a need in our community. We soon began New Waterford Wednesday Gathering. We start with a meal, have a time of worship and then sharing. Our hearts are to see the Kingdom of God be manifested in our communities, gatherings and the local church.
Recently, we were approached by pastor Dave Sawler to discuss an opportunity for me to step into an assistant pastoral role at the church. Accepting this would require me working my full time job only part time.
I will be working for Lighthouse 2-3 days per week. My responsibilities will be to help lead the weekly home group, disciple those coming, help with services in New Waterford as they begin, and to bring resources from the other Lighthouse locations to help plant a church in this community. I will also be responsible for assisting in Sunday services at the Lighthouse church in Glace Bay and stepping into a pastoral care role.
The drug culture and poverty rate in the area is notably high. Church after church has been closed it seems however, we feel a shift, God is stirring something in the hearts of His people here. We want to witness to the broken hearted and bring a true sense of community and love. ....
..........
With much love, Rob, Angel & Malachi Atkinson
