Hi withwonderingawe, there are a few things here that need to be discussed (LoAmmi pointed out at least one of them). I'll probably need to get back with you tomorrow, but just to get started, here is a very similar verse to Numbers 23:19 in 1 Samuel.

“The Glory of Israel will not lie or change His mind; for He is not a man* that He should change His mind.” 1 Samuel 15:29

The Hebrew word for "man" in 1 Sam 15:29 is אָדָם (adam)*

Yours and His,
David

Thanks. I knew it was in another place but couldn't find it in my brief search. So, yes, the message in the Tanakh seems pretty clear that HaShem is not flesh and blood nor should he be considered a man. It was also stated for the people to remember that at Sinai they only heard a voice and didn't see a form.

What you describe here is the scientific method weeding out both fraud and inaccurate/less accurate models. If anything, you've demonstrated that it WORKS, not that it's dysfunctional.

I'm sorry to say it, but it appears to me that you are scientifically illiterate and have NO idea what you are talking about.
I believe in science. But man can corrupt it just as man can corrupt religion. Just because the consensus of people believe in global warming there is a difference between man made and natural cycle of the earth. Man loves to think they have the knowledge to predict something so complex. They cannot. Eventually man will succeed in gathering enough knowledge to come close but they certainly do not have it at this time. Man made global warming is a hoax produced to control the thoughts of those who need a cause. Don't you find it a little insincere for Al Gore to speak out against leaving a car on foot print as he flys around the world in his jet because he has bought the right from those who have extra credits of green to sell. How hypocritical is that? And of course Al Gore is a multi millionaire. This is a inconvenient truth.

A person being hypocritical in their behavior does not invalidate any argument they put forth, ESPECIALLY when they are not the originator of that argument.

How much time have you put into looking into the actual science behind it and not the pop-culture science that gets put in magazines? Or the stuff put out by anti-global warming people who are generally sponsored by oil companies who have a vested interest? The science behind it is sound. Very sound.

Do you deny that we are putting a lot of carbon into the atmosphere? More than would naturally occur?

I have. It is undeniable that we are dumping carbon into the atmosphere. It is also undeniable that the greenhouse effect occurs. I have no clue as to why people think that dumping more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere is not going to have a major effect on it.

But, we also have people who think evolution didn't occur despite the mountains and mountains of evidence we have that show it did and that vaccines will cause autism, so that's just the world we live in.

The earth itself dumps many more times the amount man has from its total history.

1Sam 15:28 reads And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent. 'The Strength of Israel' is being used as an idiom for Yahweh. At this time Yahweh was not yet a mortal man but spirit only. It wasn’t until he was born of Mary that he became a man/adam the man Jesus Christ.

Hi again withwonderingawe, Yahweh NEVER stops being God. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became the God/man (God with two natures), but He never became simply a man. "The Glory of Israel (YHVH) .. is not a man ..!" 1 Samuel 15:29

I've gotta go, but I hope to be back later to discuss the rest.

Two quick questions for later though:

1) I thought you guys (Mormons) believe men become Gods, 'not' the other way around (Yahweh>man)?
2) Please tell me what "Heavenly Mom" is? Thanks! (it was mentioned earlier in this thread and I've never heard of it)

Yours and His,
David

God was not created. We were not created

Except that we are created. We are creatures. I did not exist prior to my conception in my mother's womb. The matter that makes up my body certain precedes me, I am composed of the atoms that were fused and produced in the core of stars; this world evolving out of the swirling debris left over after the formation of our sin. But those stars had beginnings, and the basic material churned in their cores--as best as we can tell--came about during a rapid and massive expansion of the universe about 14.5 billion years ago which we affectionately call the Big Bang.

Ultimately matter almost certainly came from somewhere. I won't speculate on issues concerning science which I do not know and which there are no real answers; but theologically the answer is settled (regardless of when or how):

"I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible."

God alone is uncreated.

How long has the Big Bang theory been around? From the time it was theorized how much larger has the universe realized as we see further out into space? Do you believe that God caused this to happen

How long has the Big Bang theory been around?

Relevance?

From the time it was theorized how much larger has the universe realized as we see further out into space?

The universe hasn't stopped expanding, though that isn't why we can see further into space then in the past--that has to do with telescope technology.

Do you believe that God caused this to happen

"I am the LORD, and there is no other;
besides me there is no god.
I arm you, though you do not know me,
so that they may know, from the rising of the sun
and from the west, that there is no one besides me;
I am the LORD, and there is no other.
I form light and create darkness,
I make weal and create woe;
I the LORD do all these things.
" - Isaiah 45:5-7

"And Ezra said: 'You are the LORD, you alone; you have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. To all of them you give life, and the host of heaven worships you.'" - Nehemiah 9:6

So, yes, God is the Author of all that exists. There is nothing that is not the creation of God.

Do you dispute the accuracy of this chart?
http://climate.nasa.gov/climate_resources/24/

No, and I am encouraged by it. Low CO2 levels aren't good for plants, and by extension for human beings. And if this increase reduces the harm of major or minor Ice Ages, that will be a very good thing.

The chart leaves out one very significant relationship, and that is between CO2 and global warming. The really big question is just how sensitive the climate is to increases in CO2. Do they lead to big increases in temperature? Or small increases in temperature? Or something more complex?

Climate alarmists (the Chicken Littles) would say big increases. The climate skeptics (the Ostriches) would say none, or virtually none. I personally would say small increases, along with significant variation due to non-human contributions ("it's complex").

No, not "consensus of people". We are not talking about a dispute between equally clueless folks at the bus stop.
That the global warming we experience right now (and have been experiencing for decades) has anthropogenic causes is scientific consensus among trained professionals whose job it is to analyse these phenomena.

I am an environmental scientist by profession. The fact that CO2 levels have risen dramatically over the last 150 years has been proven extensively. The origin of this change is un-disputably human burning of fossil fuels: they have done studies literally tracing isotopes in the CO2 back to fossils, and not to volcanos or plants.

Is this good for the plants? Nature is resilient and will roll with the punches.

Is this good for your beech house? Well, not if you want it above water. The human-cost of human-created climate change is expected to be over several trillion dollars.

Estimated by whom? Source?

I'd especially like to know what amount of sea-level rise is being used in this estimate.
