I'm having trouble with this. I keep thinking about wanting to get high and I don't know how to deal with it. I keep taking pills from the medicine cabinet in hopes of getting a high and I just keep coming back to it. What should I do? I'm scared of telling my parents about it and others because they might think I'm a drug addict. I'm confused about what to do.

Reaching out was a good idea! It sounds like you know you would be harming yourself if you do this. One thing I find helpful when I'm tempted is to focus my mind intently on something else. The faster you turn your mind away when you first get the inkling to go take the drugs, the easier it is. Is there a bible verse you really like? You could say that over and over. Do you like video games? Go play a good one. I have found that attempting to do a bunch of push ups will distract me from just about anything... except the need to work out more lol. So, 1-distract yourself asap. 2- pray and ask God to help you. 3- try some diaphragmatic breathing. 4- make yourself accountable to someone, like you did by posting here, and tell when you have a craving.

I pray you resist this temptation and that it flees from you, in Jesus' name.

Thank you so much for the advice. I'll try those out when I feel tempted to do it again.

1. Throw them all out TODAY.
2. Tell your parents about your issue unless they're the type that would send you somewhere, then don't tell them.

I can't really throw out some of the pills because I need them and I'm too embarrassed to tell my parents about it but I'm not sure why.

Your parents are as flawed as you are, as my parents are as flawed as I am. Most adults realize that teens will experiment, often out of curiosity or boredom, and can find themselves snagged in a problem. I used to write an advice column for my school, and it sort of evolved into me using the site Ask.Fm to answer questions from kids from all over. I've received several questions from teens who've experimented with prescription or OTC medicine seeking a high and are seeking my advice on what to do. It's really not this horrendously embarrassing problem, but it is one that needs to be addressed immediately. Assuming your parents are supporting and loving, then go to them and allow them to help you. There are simple remedies to try, such as them keeping your medicine and giving it to you as needed. They need to clear out the medicine cabinets you have access to, which should take less than 15 minutes. You also need to address why you started taking them, and whether it was just wanting to see what would happen, or if there's a deeper issue such as you wanting to numb or distract yourself from problems. Cultivate some healthy habits and new hobbies to fill up your free time so you have something to focus on and are less temped to think about the pills and want to take them.

If you really don't feel comfortable talking to your parents then talk to someone else who is trustworthy and responsible in your life, such as a youth pastor. You need someone to help you with accountability and to be your soundboard.

That high that you're looking for can be found in Jesus. His presence will take you to new levels of ecstasy. Just get alone with God and began to think about how amazing he is, and how much he loves you. Think about what Jesus did for you, just look at
Jesus. Not like a picture but look at him with the eyes of your heart. Tell him you want to experience him. He won't disappoint. The experience that Jesus gives will greatly outweigh the feelings that any pill can give you.
