Have any of you heard that the gunman targeted Christians?
This is really chilling.

This also seems to be downplayed in the media.

I mean, when an African-American church was shot up, there was a lot of talk about racism.
That was understandable and appropriate
but then you see this happen and the issue just seems to be ignored.

I'm not one to jump on the Christians are persecuted in the US bandwagon, but anytime people are killed for their faith, they are martyrs. However, others that share my view that Christians have it good in the US are all too willing to turn a blind eye when real issues occur. My view on this is that this aspect is being ignored solely because it is Christianity. People will focus on anything else. It's a sign of the times.

Obama skipped right over the motive and went straight to talking about guns. If Muslims, homosexuals, or any other non-Christians would have been targeted it's guaranteed that he would have called it a hate crime.

From what I hear, he asked the students if they were religious, then made comments about seeing their god soon before firing indiscriminately.

Other info I've heard (About a manifesto, Facebook groups and other stuff) makes it sound like the guy had strong anti-theist(or at least anti organised religions) views, and had a shopping list of grievances to try and justify his actions.

That's all the fragments I've heard, and I haven't fact checked.
Seems to me just another pathetic pitiful character who took out his anger on the world around him in the most attention grabbing manner he could muster.

I heard one account that stated people were asked their religion and Christians were shot in the head/torso while non-Christians or people who refused to answer were just shot in the leg

this could be a bit of modern myth building, but it is still troubling

Hate to bust the "woe! We are so persecuted!" bubble, but:

there are conflicting reports

but it seems to just be glossed over with "there are conflicting reports"
there were conflicting reports about the Ferguson shooting
but that still sparked a national conversation
this is just like "please we do not want to talk about this"
that is the feeling I get

hmmm, the article is under the caption "Friendly Atheist"
is that the authors self appointed title?

With describing the concerns of Christians as "feverish cries" I do not see a lot of friendliness at all.
I see a rather dismissive attitude, an attitude that is becoming the hallmark of the Secularist

Don't go ad hom on me. The writer may be a rabidly Christian hating loon for all I know. If you actually read what he says, he debunks the whole "shooter was targeting Christians" thing pretty thoroughly, with sources. Go have a look.

you presented a biased source
I was merely trying to point that out

it seems that some of the victims were not Christian
one of the victims the author says "would probably not want to be remembered as a Christian martyr"
and points to the fact that the person has posted on Facebook about progressive political issues and did not talk about religion
... that seems like a stretch to assume that a person was or was not a Christian, just because they do not talk about it a lot?

one of them it is reported that "he would probably call himself an agnostic"
well did he describe himself that way?
did his close friends and family describe him that way?
or is this just based on his facebook?

another one made a joke about Jehovah's Witness coming to the door
ok?
I think everyone has made jokes about that

the article is written with a clear bias by someone who calls claims to be "friendly" but is really just a poor journalist who has more interest in advancing a world view then in finding the truth.

"And blessed is he who takes no offense at me.” - Jesus (Matt 11:6)

“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. But all this they will do to you on my account, because they do not know him who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. He who hates me hates my Father also. If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. It is to fulfil the word that is written in their law, ‘They hated me without a cause.’ But when the Counselor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness to me; and you also are witnesses, because you have been with me from the beginning." - Jesus (Jn 15:18-27)

"Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. And then many will fall away, and betray one another, and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because wickedness is multiplied, most men’s love will grow cold. But he who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, as a testimony to all nations; and then the end will come." - Jesus (Matt 24:9-14)

Looks to me like he targeted everybody, but perhaps spared the Christians from prolonged suffering by shooting them in the head, while he subjected the non Christians to extended suffering by shooting them in the torso/chest/legs, etc....

Insanity.

Perhaps it was his hatred against Christians that drove him crazy.

Well, we don't know why he didn't inflict the extended suffering on the Christians that he inflicted on the non Christians.. we will likely never know.

From that point of view, capital punishment is the lesser sentence than life in prison.

Really? "3 Hot's and a cot" for life is equivalent to dying slowly from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso?
