• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Dear All,

I came to ask how I can walk with God to develop my personal self-control and discipline, so sick and tired of myself falling back to old ways. It has been very frustrating and demoralizing. Even if I do pray about it, I always find myself struggling with earthly temptations and desires alone.

Please help!

Keep on praying! Don't stop! Unfortunately, we as people will always face temptation but GOD always provides a way out if we truly desire it!

1 Corinthians 10:13 says "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And GOD is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."

Don't feel as though you are less of a CHRISTian because we all fall short of His Glory! When you are in a situation where you know it is unpleasing to GOD, just began to pray and ask Him to help you! Trust me, it works! All you have to do is give it all to the LORD and He will purify you! Change your thoughts, atmosphere, friends, or whatever that may be causing you to fall into your old ways! GOD doesn't expect perfection just progression! GOD can change you for the better, but you have to let Him all the way in! GOD Bless and I will be praying for you!!

Your thread has reminded me of this article I read on-line about dying to ourselves, that is, our 'old [sinful] man' and it's old ways and living for God. This obviously isn't easy; I am still very much in the same process and enduring the same struggles as you. This article has helped me and I hope it helps you. Also, don't beat yourself up if you may fail, because we can't ever attain to living a perfect life. But instead, know that God Himself wants you to persevere even though you may stumble in sin. He just wants us to repent and to pursue Him no matter what because He is for you, not against you and loves you deeply.

One must become a "child of God" ---saved by a new birth in Jesus Christ, to have the blessings and power of God to overcome our flesh and live a godly life. The true "born again" believer has a sure resource in communion with our Savior to meet every challenge and source of trouble. It really works as I have found in over 60 years walking with my Savior (my best Friend) ---1 Jn. 5:10-13.
