Please open the "QUOTE"My apologies. I usually do not read the Good News Translation but had looked up a verse previously and forgot to put it back to NKJV. The translations are pretty much the same though:
29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.PS You don't need to be rude to me. Also, we should stop debating, this is a fellowship thread.
What is the "this reason"? Eating and drinking in an unworthy manner. I think you will find the reason written before the verse quoted... (probably afterward, too) As I said, they were "partying", not being mindful of the rest of the body of Christ (the church) who didn't have the means to buy the fine food the Fat Cats brought with them (they did not eat "wafers" the host or hostess supplied, as we do at church, it was a full meal.)
We really do need to read much more than we do when we select a verse to quote.... Sometimes, maybe even the whole Chapter.
I wasn't trying to be rude, just stating that I felt you were shorting yourself by only using one translation, as it appeared you were doing... since "No" they don't all say what the GNT says. That particular version attempts to "tell" you what a verse means, rather than just repeating the verse in, perhaps, more easily understood language. Frankly, the GNT borders on trying to establish "doctrine" in many areas.
