Many or most people were overjoyed about the Pope’s visit to the U.S. I am extremely unhappy, and there are ample reasons why.

- Pope Francis laughed with Obama on camera multiple times, Obama the man who refuses to defund the butchers at Planned Parenthood, even if it means shutting down the U.S. government to protect them, and Obama the man who forces Catholic organizations pay for contraceptives and abortion causing drugs.

- In response, Pope Francis could have said something to Congress about abortion or the unprecedented evils of Planned Parenthood, but instead he said nothing at all, leaving those in Congress fighting Planned Parenthood with no support at all.

- Now to his credit he did meet with the Sisters of the Poor, a group of nuns who are suing the Obama administration over the contraception issue. But this symbolic act was overshadowed by other events.

- There were signs of hope when Pope Francis talked about protecting religious freedom for public workers, and even met with the Kentucky clerk who was jailed for not signing same-sex marriage certificates. But couple of days later the Vatican withdrew his support of her cause, completely hollowing the meaning of his earlier words.

- This confused approach took another turn after Pope Francis spoke vaguely about threats to God’s design for sexuality and marriage in his address to Congress, but then met with a longtime gay friend and his partner in search of a “hug” from them. The gay friend even claimed the Pope has never challenged him about his sodomy.

Through these and other conflicted words and actions, it is clear the visit of Pope Francis has only emboldened Obama and people like him to continue their attack on orthodox Christianity. Nearly every media report echoes what secularists now believe: Pope Francis is marginally concerned about the slaughter and sale of the unborn in this country, is an advocate for same-sex relationships, and won’t defend those who are persecuted for standing against gay marriage. As a Catholic Christian who is very concerned about these issues, I believe Pope Francis failed his Church miserably during this visit. He has made grave matters even worse, and I truly wish he had not come here. Pope Francis has lost my trust as a spokesman for truth.

I am disappointed as well. Continuing to pray. I was just praying for all of this, including my nation, the US, a few minutes ago. I'm praying for Pope Francis. I just put him on my Prayer Wall in the Hall.

God bless you.

I'm Orthodox and I was very excited about the pontiff's visit. What did you expect him to do? Beat Obama to death with the ferula? I don't get it, I mean he even visited nuns in solidarity in their struggles against such oppressions.

I'm glad that the Pope rejected the claims of Kim Davis and will not stand with her bigotry. I'm also glad he got to meet with his gay friend and his partner. At least the Pope understands compassion and not judging. Too bad most Christians don't and are obsessed with condemning gays any chance they get.

Gosh, you don't think maybe the Lord was calling him to do something different from what some American Roman Catholics thought he should do, do you?

You're starting to make me like the Pope. Shame on him for not treating the president nice and not forcing his views on the president. Also I love planned parenthood. Thanks to them, my sister was able get services and clothing to cloth her twin girls. At least they aren't judgmental, help women with what ever choice they make.

Well it is Jesus you should be looking to not a MAN .And the RCC has been to legalistic
and 'royal court',andabove all hypocrtitical towards women ;instead of speaking against inappropriate contentography they were selling it ,hence the support for women abused by PP?
When men in the Church get their house in order (women too of course )but he rulers of the Church have been men, then Order will come to society .Abortion is a horrible thing ,but then so to is rape ,beating to death ( here a woman is beaten to death every day by her husband or cojoint .)

An... immigrant... Pope?

Yes, Pope Francis went through the ropes of immigration and feels for the others going through the same.

Of course, all popes are going to have a soft spot for places like Latin America, for obvious reasons.

....Obama the man who refuses to defund the butchers at Planned Parenthood,

I get annoyed at the myopic arguments against Planned Parenthood. Here are some facts

https://www.plannedparenthood.org/about-us/who-we-are/planned-parenthood-at-a-glance

  • Planned Parenthood health centers focus on prevention: 80 percent of our clients receive services to prevent unintended pregnancy.

  • Planned Parenthood services help prevent approximately 516,000 unintended pregnancies each year.

  • Planned Parenthood provides nearly 400,000 Pap tests and nearly 500,000 breast exams each year, critical services in detecting cancer.

  • Planned Parenthood provides nearly 4.5 million tests and treatments for sexually transmitted infections, including 700,00 HIV tests.

  • Three percent of all Planned Parenthood health services are abortion services.

  • Planned Parenthood affiliates provide educational programs and outreach to 1.5 million young people and adults each year.
You think things are bad now with Planned Parenthood. Well, they would be a thousand times worse without Planned Parenthood. I mean, 1000 times worse, I'm being literal.

I just can't stand moralistic arguments that completely ignore reality and data. The reality is, Planned Parenthood helps MILLIONS of people per year. Here is some data

abortionchart.gif

Abortions are on the decline and organizations like Planned Parenthood are part of the reason why.

You get rid of Planned Parenthood, and not only does that graph shoot up, but you will lower the Utility of the entire nation and do more harm than good.

If you disagree, I would love to see an argument that has data and logical deductions that will show and prove that the elimination of Planned Parenthood results in more good for the nation and raises the Utility. But that will never happen. All that will happen is just a bunch of emotional appeals centered around a few pics of aborted fetuses while you run around waving your arms in the air screaming, "This is bad." when the alternative is far far worse...

What discourages me is the adamant refusal of abortion supporters to admit the truth, that the procedure is the killing of innocent human life. Do not attempt to bring up court definitions, cases or clinic and political doublespeak, the biology is absolute. A human fetus is a defined stage in the growth is an entirely separate and unique individual from the mother. It may be dependent upon the mother, but so is an infant for several moths after birth. That argument about being a parasite and what have you is specious and frankly insulting to any scientific evidence. As for searching for any Biblical support for this barbaric practice, look all you want. The only thing the Bible does is proclaim the humanity of the developing baby in the womb. Admit it, for politics sake, you have decided to sacrifice millions of innocent lives. How many will the judge put onto your shoulders on the judgement day in addition to the charge of hypocrisy because you refused to admit what you were supporting, or even doing? As for the moderators, go ahead, make my day.

Nobody is denying that abortion kills life. However, it is factual that when abortion is illegal that the mortality rate among women increases, because unsafe abortions are the leading cause of pregnancy related death. It is also factual that where contraceptive use is increased that abortion rates decrease. The results are significant.

BTW- I'm fairly certain the Pope was originally from Italy and immigrated to Argentina. I'm certain I read something about that a while back.
According to the wiki at least he was born to an Italian immigrant in Argentina. Which is what I thought was the case.

At least I got the countries right, but wrong generation. There's a big Italian immigrant community in Argentina. Lovely country, btw. If you ever get the chance to go, you absolutely should.
