I mostly play computer games now. I used to play for hours, like all day on PS2. But now I play on the computer, and I listen to audio sermons while playing solitare or majong (spelling?). My brain takes in the messages from the sermons and plays the games almost automatically. When I need to stop to take notes, I use either wordpad or I pause the mp3 and write them down in my notebook. For me, it's a great way to get in the message and keep my hands busy too.
I guess some people may play more, some less. It's so easy to get into another 'world' with games. It's probably different for all of us.
The best way for self control that I'd suggest, I guess, is limit yourself to so many hours. If it's a game you have to save periodically, and say, it's been an hour for example, and you've set your limit for an hour, then tell yourself "when I get to the save spot, I quit".
You are right, obsession is easy. I fell deep into it a long while back, and became so obsessed that it ruined a relationship/friendship of mine.
If you feel yourself becoming obsessed at all, shut the game off, unplug it, and choose a new hobby for a while. In the meantime, get something better on your mind. If you like listening to things, I think there's a website somewhere with free mp3's of the Bible. It helped me. It might help you too. I dunno. :) I hope this helps.

I used to play for about 7 or more hours every day and now I barely play for an hour. I used to really enjoy gaming but I don't know what happened. I don't hate it now but something just puts it off for me.

Same here and I'm an atheist. I love games all the same but I rarely play now and I get bored very quickly. Maybe I've grown out of them.

depends, I usually play mario kart 8 online, coz its pretty easy to get into. I play it for about half an hour and then I usually have enough. I own a lot of games for nintendo systems which I havent even touched yet, as of late I couldnt find the time and the desire to invest a lot of time into gaming. The last game I beat was new super mario bros on the ds :) (a couple of weeks ago)

Well, I think setting aside a few hours a day to enjoy some entertainment is not a bad thing. In the past, I used to literally spend days on end playing video games (MMORPGs) without much rest. I fell in to the competitive side of gaming and it really became an addiction.

Nowadays it's not so bad. In between the daily chores I have, reading my Bible, praying and hanging out with friends and family, I am able to play maybe 3-4 hours max a day, if even that. Although I rarely even do that lately. This last year I haven't done much gaming. Not to say I don't enjoy it, but life can get busy.

I don't think there's a set limit of 'hours' as to how much you should or shouldn't play, but I think you must factor in every other thing in your life. IF you are a Christian, I think the most important aspects of your life must come first. Once you are done with those, IF you have the free time, I don't see any harm in gaming your free time away.

As to how you can overcome your excitement and nervousness (adrenaline rush) just try to remember that it is 'JUST A GAME' and not real life, so whether you win or lose, it's OKAY! Also remember that there's nothing wrong with spending some time gaming, as long as you have your priorities in order and you've taken care of your other more important needs first. :)

Blessings!

I guess there is something in your mind or your heart and I believe it is Holy Spirit that talk to you to stop playing games. When I was in university, I play a lot of games. I can play a whole day without stop. And then I get a really bad mark on my test and then I know that God ask me to delete all my games. And I obey to God, so with a heavy heart, I delete all my games and you know? After that, when I have a free time, I don't know what I have to do. So, I study, I playing guitar and start to praise God. I know my time is worthy, so I give my time to God. If you know that you cannot handle yourself, don't try to handle and just delete your game! Be honest with your heart, with your strength, if you know your are not strength enough, you have to delete your game, before the game destroy your life.

1Co 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.

If it's a new game, I'll play it about two hours a day on the weekends and an hour a day during the weekdays. Usually, though, I only play about 30 mins to an hour. I used to play longer, but I like to play in shorter periods of time so I have time to do other things and can take longer to enjoy the game.

I'll say it now, what I am about to say will shock people. Being disabled I never really had to work either. So from when I was a teen to when I was a young adult I'd spent about between 6-12 hours a day playing games. I MAJOR waste of time I regret. For me I was somewhat obsessed with games. I'd seen a game I liked and would make a note of it so I could get it later. If I missed a game I'd panic because I didn't want to miss out on the fun. I had to play it! To the point of I would get games.... "questionably" from places.

But overtime I grew out of it. I still enjoy games but I just find myself feeling "Meh" about them. If I miss one I miss one. If I play one I own, I play it. If not then life goes on. Currently I only play Fallout 4 when I have a chance (maybe 2-4 hours a week if I am lucky, at most). I think most people once they get into their lates 20s start to change and games just don't become as important. Sure they can still look fun, but you are busy with real world things adults go through.

To be fair I was never into multiplayer games that much. I got bored of them early on. Especially when COD came about. Everyone racing to get to the next rank, new skins, new weapons...etc. I thought it was so pointless. Rushing for digital rewards that in a year or two won't matter because people won't be playing it anymore or won't care about because a new COD will be out. MMOs.... I strongly dislike those. Those are worse. You can spend 15 years of life with a character, probably even spending real world money, wasting real world time...etc and for what? After all the time the game goes away and all you worked for is gone. Why even do it? Its why I don't take Fallout 4 as seriously. Once I beat the game I'm not really concerned if I ever play it again aside from using some fun mods.

Yeah, I agree with this, especially that last paragraph. Games are fun, and sometimes can be an amazing art form, but it's important to acknowledge that there isn't much there for you besides temporary entertainment. Real world is way more important.

I'm not into MMOs or COD, or really many first-person shooters. It may sound weird when I say this, but I don't like violent video games. That sounds weird because there are so many violent video games, but there are a lot of excellent nonviolent video games out there that most people haven't heard off.

Depends on how you define 'gaming' because I figure there are two types of gaming...board gaming and video gaming. I do both but probably more board gaming than video/PC games (unless you want to count the hidden object/puzzle solving PC games which I sometimes will play for a couple of hours when I'm 'bored'). I enjoy adventure computer/playstation games, yes, even first person shooters but NOT war games. I am not into pretending to be a soldier fighting past battles in American history. As a sci-fi fan for nearly all of my life, most of my gaming has been in the fantasy or sci-fi genre, first person shooters generally set at an easier level because I prefer to explore rather than get into pitched battles. Also enjoy games like Tomb Raider and Uncharted (I've played the first 3 of those). Have Turok for PS3 but haven't played it yet. May devote about 2 hours to that when I do get started (per day). But I can go months without playing a game like that. I'm far more likely to do board gaming, both classic (American Mah Jongg, Scattergories, Scrabble, Uno etc) and modern (Jaipur, Dragonwood, Age of War, Takenoko, Lost Cities etc.), and attend game nights at local game stores.
