i met a homeless person in nyc that seems to be really seeking work. They have a background in home rehab and labor. I don't know much about this person but they seem genuine and I want to help.

Does anyone have ideas on how I could help them find employment?
You might want to call habitat for humanity, and see if they have any connections to local construction companies.

Both the Salvation Army and Goodwill have programs to help people find work. They also provide other assistance to the homeless.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I think helping a homeless person any way you can is commendable. It could be as simple as buying them a bottle of cold water or doing something really big like giving them a place to stay.

The Bible teaches that there's no point in feeding a man and then sending him off with a cloak. But it works both ways- there's no point in giving him a cloak if you do not feed him. You may as well just go put a dime into a charity jar if you aren't doing both.
Helping the homeless is not a small work. You cannot just go and put five dollars into a homeless person's hands and expect that you've been blessed in doing so. That you've done your good deed for the day. It's by this that society has solved little in the way of poverty.

Helping the homeless is a long term thing.
Of course, it'd be great to solve the problem with the click of the fingers, however it is such a large scale issue.
If every person pledged 1 hour a week to help the homeless, this could massively help; I mean, what is one hour out of 168 hours?

Better that, than nothing . Some people do not want to live in a house .
And what do you do then ,perhaps you can SHOW us how to .

Isnt that the duty of ur government to provide them with shelter and food
where's the tax gone
No it is not ,but it is helpful to have cheap good quality social housing .
No as a christian we ourselves have a duty to our own family ,to our parents
and to our neighbours .When we fail in that we suffer conséquences .
If you are a christian you can expect to suffer because you have not done your
duty .Jesus knew that sometimes ,we fall on hard times as we live
in a sinful world and we need help for a time, but we have no right to expect
everything given to us . This person wants to work, and that is good ,and
one should help absolutely .
