• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I'm worried about money, and I have no idea what else to do. Everyone seems to just want to sit there and do nothing (not even getting off their butts and helping me out). I'm beyond frustrated. I'm also tired of depending on SSI. Just needed to get this off my chest

By everyone, I meant those I've asked for help, and all I get in return is the proverbial dirty bird (aka the middle finger) by being told to "help myself" (when in reality, by asking for help, I AM helping myself). People are so heartless...

SSI isn't the easiest way to live but maybe if you can find more affordable housing and try to cut the cost of living in other ways too, then it might not be so bad. Its only a suggestion that you could try. I don't know how much you receive in benefits, or how much your bills cost, but it may be possible to cut costs and save more money that will relieve your burden quite a bit.

I live with my mom and brother, so that's out of the question. My benefits are around $755 (?) a month, but the problem is that, due to my mom depending on my SSI to pay a majority of the bills, I don't get the money

I see, so you need help from at least one of them it seems.

That's not what I'm trying to say.

If they are able to help then that would be a likely answer for the problem. However i understand that its not always so easy, and that the likely answer isn't always the right one. My own life is like that, so i understand. Sorry i misunderstood before.

Scared. As much as I can rationalize horror movies and games (having just watched someone on YT playthrough one that piqued my interest because the game had the butterfly effect), I still get scared for a few days afterwards. There's a psychology and a recipe behind all of it, it's interesting but I hate it. And most of all, jump scares are the worst.

Loyal I know how you feel and I'm on SSI and its not nearly enough every month, I don't mind helping those whom I care about (roommates who became family to me) and have one roominess who's now a 'boarder' he's moving soon but does nothing to remotely help so its on 2 of us who take care of the bills and food ect..It gets old but I know things will work out just trying for me personally keep the faith. For years I didn't see the monthly check till My husband and I divorced I didn't have it married but after it took 7 months or so get it all straightened out. But my advice if you want it take or leave it up to you.

If you're over 18 which I'm sure you are, you can as a legal "adult" request from your case worker at SSI to get the checks in your name unless your mom has power of attorney over you or over the checks that are yours to begin with. Also if you want those checks in your name can get a free checking and deposit and then discuss with your mom and brother if applicable ( if brother is older than you or close to 18) then can decide how much does your money cover for bills ect. Are you wanting to work, can go through SSI work ticket program things like this can ask around. So just simple things if you want to see the money and decide what you want to do with it, such as X amount to help with the bills unless its only "your" money going towards the bills and no other source of income. Again I do not know the situation but that's what I'd do if it were me, but will pray for guidance for you as to what you want for your future.

Not much going on here, hoping to fix the dryer soon been having to go to a laundry mat to do 3 loads or more which isn't bad but the truck has no a/c and its still tad warm out side and been getting headaches again like crazy, went 2 weeks with one every day then a break then back at it again, I see my Dr next month and hope to talk to her about it. Called her as well on an allergist for hay-fever and other issues still no call back. Arg some times dealing with Dr's is a pain in the rear.

Hope everyone is good n safe, prayers for everyone as they need blessings

Thank you so much, Blessed :) I was thinking to either use the SSI work ticket program or take up transitional employment at the psychosocial clubhouse I go to, but at the same time, I'm worried about how either is going to affect my current benefits. And @Poster0: it's ok. You were trying to help, and I thank you for it

Im not sure if your dryer is gas or electric. I fixed an electyric dryer one time and all i needed to do was remove the top and push a reset button that was underneath. I didn't even know it was there until i removed the top. It was an older dryer, not sure how newer ones may be set up. I also got a used dryer from a person one time, she said it worked but when i got it home it didn't heat up. I thought the heating element inside might be damaged so i removed it and took it to a parts store but they didn't have that element in stock, so i went home empty handed. However, i was desperate and something compelled me to reinstall the old element and to my surprise it worked and the dryer did get hot. What happened was the wire connections on the dryer became oxidized and it didn't have a positive connection any longer, and in the process of unplugging it and plugging it back in again, it cleaned the contacts enough so that it worked again.

Im not sure if you or anyone in your home is mechanically inclined, but if you are then you may want to check for things like this, if you cant afford to have it serviced at this time. However, be careful and unplug the dryer from the wall recepticle before removing any covers or the top, and before touching any electrical components inside.

Father's day today. The kids and grand kids will be coming around today. Luckily I'm feeling good this morning so that should be fun.

A few of our grand kids came around yesterday afternoon as well and played kings quest 6 and hero quest 1, they had a ball. These old games play excellent on my Ubuntu system, good old Dosbox and Wine make sure of that.

I forgot you live in Australia and was confused for a brief moment. Have a good fathers day!

Wow. Maybe you should take a day off and go see a doctor.
I ended up taking ibuprofun and sucking it up. I've gone to multiple doctors and there's really nothing that can be done outside of surgery and things that I've already tried.

Glad you had good family time & thank God you were feeling well!

I've been listening to Sons of Korah's "Psalm 95", live version over and over. My favorite so far.

Had a good day today. I Was invited to a musical jam session with a bunch of greybeards in our 60s & 70's playin' oldies for well over 4 hours. Very theraputic for me & made some new friends. Haven't had such fun in a long time! Thank you Lord! He knew what I needed! :)
