• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey Link, I do similar stuff, calisthenics, or body weight exercise. I do a lot of pull ups on a bar I hang in my door frame.

If you are good at doing deep squats, you can try doing pistol squats, where you stand on one leg with the other in the air and in front of you. From there, try and lower yourself down into a full one legged squat and stand back up. They aren't easy, and it takes a lot of balance.

Happy training, be safe.

I used to exercise for 6 mins and I only know a few exercises like push-ups, diamond-push ups, jumping jacks, squats, lunges, crunches, and sit ups. I used to exercises most of these improperly. I looking for exercises to do around the arms, and legs.
Hi there! The biggest thing with calisthenic exercise is maintaining proper form and keeping tension on the intended muscle group. For example, if you are doing body squats, make sure your knees don't go over your toes (this could make you prone to knee injury/pain) and just go to parallel. Do the movement slowly going down and coming up, this keeps your muscles under more tension longer and will have huge benefits to your overall goal. As far as arms are concerned you could do dips for triceps, that could be as easy as using a chair and as far as biceps, any type of back movement using calisthenics is going to indirectly use them so without weights that is about as best as you can do.
On a side note, I am a personal trainer and a bodybuilder so I'm not just pulling this stuff out of the air :)

Hope this helps!

I vary my routine so I don't get bored and give myself excuses to stop exercising.
I think that's important . I have a Bow Flex machine, and also their tread climber. I use a recumbent stationary bike also for cardio.

With those you should be able to work each muscle group very effectively. The stationary bike is IMO the best for low impact cardio, since it takes a lot of strain off the hips and knees. That and you can do interval training on them too which is very beneficial for fat loss.
