Why don't you believe in the Book of Mormon? Tradition? Proofs? :)

I just wanted to know Why you believe what you believe. Is it down to long tradition with family, or personal belief in the OT etc?

For me, i believe in the OT and NT because i have been brought up a Christian / Catholic and strongly believe through faith that Jesus is the Son of the True living God. Through reading and prayer and life's experience my faith in Jesus / God has gotten stronger over a couple of years.

Could you say then, it did not nor requires any effort on your part?
Could you say it is as natural as breathing?

The coming of Jesus was widely prophesied in the OT! Many many things are linked between the OT and the NT. All the prophets in the OT were killed. Like Jesus said, a Prophet is not welcome in his own city!

What the Jews wanted was a warrior king. They wanted a man that was going to kill all their enemies and because Jesus was a man of peace they rejected him. Simples. With Jesus came a new Covenant.
I think that everything has been said on this subject (well almost). Suffice to say, the Jewish people of his time and through the two millennia since, found his claim to the title wanting.

It needed effort because i am a terrible sinner! I love God so much though. Loving God / Jesus is as natural as breathing! Its my 'faith' that i have had problems with. Catholic teaching etc etc etc. But, i do believe in the OT and the NT.

I believe the Tanakh because I see the Jewish people still around despite people rising up all the time in the past to destroy us. We outlasted all of them. So, I believe the promises we were given.

I check out the NT and see things that don't line up with what I know of the Tanakh. I'm told they do by Christians, but when I look those claims fall apart. So here we are.

Well, that's just asserting it. Which prophets were killed? Isaiah? Ezekiel? Jeremiah? If there's no evidence, it's just yet another attack in the NT.

You'd think the murder of all these prophets would be something worthy of being reported.

David was a prophet. He died in his bed. We didn't kill him.

Tradition has it that Isaiah was sawn in half, executed by the wicked and idolatrous king Manasseh. I believe this tradition, as well as recorded in Christian sources such as the Epistle to the Hebrews, is likewise recorded in the Talmud and other Jewish sources. Wikipedia gives Tractate Yevamot 49b as a source.

Seems to me for the very same reason gentiles reject Him....plus God blinded most when He sent the Gospel to the gentiles....to provoke them to jeliousy.
But there'S much evidence that He is beginning to lift the veil and more and more Jews are coming to Jesus. More evidence we are very close to the rapture and the great tribulation.

Would someone please explain to me what the movement of born again gentiles converting to Mesianic Jewdaism? I don'T get it at all, though saved Jews have MUCH understanding withwhich to edify the Body. But gentiles do not have the same perspective so why the flood to convert?

There have been Jewish converts to Christianity throughout the last two thousand years. And not just forced conversions as we see during the Spanish Inquisition but legitimate, voluntary conversion. It doesn't happen often, but I'd argue it's not happening more often today than it has in the past; I think that's a misconception.

I won't touch on the whole rapture doctrine itself since that would be off topic.

Branding. That is, an attempt to portray the modern Messianic Jewish movement(s) as somehow either a direct connection to the first century Church or a restoration of the first century Church. That is, a form of Christian Primitivism, and trying to sell the movement as somehow a more authentic expression of Christianity than Christianity via misinformation and propaganda. What is often failed to be properly understood is that, as a movement, Messianic Judaism didn't exist prior to the mid-20th century. There were older Hebrew Christian organizations, especially in Anglican circles in England in the 19th and early 20th centuries, but as a movement so-called Messianic Judaism is an entirely recent phenomenon. But branding itself as what Christianity looked like during the lives of the Apostles gives it the perception of authenticity and authority that is claimed to be lacking in various other church traditions and denominations. Its "Jewish" character largely being an appropriation of Ashkenazi culture, the Ashkenazim are the Jews of Eastern Europe with certain distinctive liturgical practices and cultural norms that are unique, and therefore distinct from other major Jewish cultural groups such as the Sephardim and Mizrahim.

Yiddish, for example, is an Ashkenazi language, developed among Ashkenazi Jews in the middle ages.

The Ashkenazim are what most Westerners think of as a "stereotypical Jew" because there is simply less exposure to other Jewish cultures in the West, and as such is the kind of Jewish culture that is appropriated by the Messianic Judaism movement(s). And the intent is to use this faux Jewishness to provide a sense of authenticity and authority on its own.

I'm not saying all self-identified Messianic Jews are like this, only to speak more generally of the movements themselves and how they stereotypically operate. A chief point of these groups is often to specifically target Jews for prosyletization, but Gentile adherents come about through what I've already talked about.

Could you comment further regarding the rush by many Gentiles to convert after a born again experience. Mesianic Jews are a very special group. Having grown up practicing the very things Jesus is now fulfilling. Why Gentiles...what motivates them to convert?

Just want you to know thst I understand that when I got saved I was grafted into the olive tree that God pruned away those born Jewish. I am now a Jew in the trues sense of the word having received the circumcision of the heart. But that does'T mean I need to convert nor do I believe converting would make me any more special nor receive a greater understanding of God. Mesianic Jews are believers we gentiles can look to for deeper understanding, but converting, in my opinion, does not give us greater understanding, though we can look to the Jews by birth for that.
Does my post make a clear point that you can sink your teeth in?

Being a Christian doesn't make you Jewish. Gentiles =/= Jews. St. Paul is clear that, in the Church, there are both Jews and Gentiles and there is no difference between them.

Why?

though we can look to the Jews by birth for that.

Being born to a Jewish mother (the qualification for being Jewish) doesn't grant one super powers.

David was a prophet? I've heard Muslims refer to David as a prophet, but never Jews or Christians.
To be a prophet does not necessarily mean predicting the future. Officially, Abraham was the first Jewish prophet and Moses being the greatest of them all, but so was Joshua and Salomon, etc. They all died of natural causes.

It does't?

Rom. 2 : 29
Romans 2:29King James Version (KJV)
29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Perhaps not but that places a newborn in the care and teaching of special people God chose to reveal Himself through. They spent their time under the schoolmaster prior to salvation as such were taught salvation by seeing and participating in the types and shadows and "dress rehearsal" of the thing Jesus would later reveal through His earthly ministry and beyond. All that they were taught growing up they now understand with the mind of Christ.

I won't disagree with that but that is hardly worthy of saying the Jews kill their prophets though. As you pointed out it was a wicked king.
