Edge; I don't understand why they did away with favorites; the reading list isn't the same and you can't put as many items in it; did they think "reading list" sounded more sophisticated or something?

Ok I miss-spoke here; they still have favorites, or at least they have favorites listed, but when you click on that and you save a page; then go back to find it later; it's not there-----ok stop the presses----I had looked at the favorites several times and could not find something I saved from before-----now I look there and it is there---what goes on here; anyway.

Windows 10 is a BETA test says my granddaughter, who probably knows. Windows 10 failed utterly for me. Windows phone #s in Seattle are ALWAYS busy, so I wound up paying $300 to MyPhoneSupport in India (for a year support for Desktop.laptop, tablet 855-698-3249 would have been $100 just to uninstall one time) and even they seemed to fail to restart with a special login. It was supposed to take 2 hours to uninstall Windows 10, but was still restarting a day later. Happened to re-boot and now it (Windows 7) works fine.
(I also posted a new thread on Business before I found this right tech forum.)

Well it's been 2 weeks since the roll-out of Windows 10 and since I've installed it; and over-all it seems to be working ok. Somethings fixed themselves; others I was learning how 10 works and getting used to the new ways of it. The two problems I had with Win7 have not showed up on 10; text insertion problems and video display stoppages; so i'm happy with that; especially when some computer techs said it wouldn't fix those problems. So for me and I think for a lot of main-stream computer users (85% approval rate by one survey) it's an improvement; the anti-Microsoft crowd wouldn't be happy with anything MS brought out. And; hey. the up-grade was free!

I've changed my opion.... I still like the set up of windows 10 better than 8 / 8.1 but I would agree with the others who are waiting. I have reverted back to 8.1. Win 10 was working very well etc until last night during a Broadcom update and then all of a sudden I lost my wifi options etc on my computer. My tv, iphone, roku box, etc worked on my home wifi home network but my computer wasn't even allowing wifi options / access any more. So I'm waiting but the good news in all of this is that the reverting back worked well too. I'm hoping / waiting for news for them to get their stuff together regarding Broadcom before I will try to upgrade again. ....apparently I'm not the only one having wifi issues. ;)

When it comes to the actual upgrade ....I'm glad I made the decision to go with windows 8.1 instead of windows 7 on my new computer. I figured it would be less hassle to upgrade to 10. It's the only reason I chose 8 over 7. But oh well, hopefully when they get this broadcom compatability sorted I will be good to go again. ;)

After a month, Windows 10 has a market share of 5.2 percent bringing it ahead of Windows 8 but behind Windows XP, 7, and 8.1 putting it in 4th place in the line up of web usage; ahead of Apple's OS X 10.10 (Yosemite).

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2490499,00.asp

Giving Windows a 91.32% share of the market.
The thing that got me was after all the on line promotion of Linux and Mac over the years the open source OS only has a .93% of the market and Apple's OS X has 5.06% share:

Windows-Market-Share.jpg

With most on-line Guru sites advising users to wait for at least 6 months for Win10 to get sorted out with the early adopters; next year should see an increase of usage of 10. The thing that is yet to be seen is how many people will pay for an up grade to 10 from Vista and new scratch built PCs. I for one like 10 and think it is an upgrade in Windows OS' not a downgrade.

I upgraded my whole house using the USB method, or whatever it's called. So one HP laptop (my wife's) running 8.1, one Samsung laptop running 7, and my custom PC running 8.1. The only one that didn't upgrade smoothly was the Samsung. The Desktop would flash repeatedly and I literally had no control over anything. It's apparently an issue some were having, so I did a System Restore that fixed it for about a day. So I did a clean install and that worked very well.
I'm impressed overall. And my wife loves it! And that makes me happy if she's happy. She never liked 8 at all. I'm noticing some performance improvement in my gaming and great load times after I tweaked the Services and whatnot a bit.

One thing I don't like is how Control Panel competes with Settings, and Settings is dominant. I had to hunt for Control Panel and stick it in Start. I'm letting Windows Defender do all the antivirus/antimalware work for now. I was getting tired of all the ads on Avast. lol Start is pretty easy to configure once you get a feel for it. So I see just what I want to see when I hit Start.

Been using Windows 10 for a while now and keep finding new things I like, but haven't made a list or kept track of them, but here is one; maps:

Found an app (program for us old schoolers) in the app menu; that has what I thought was a new map app (going to get used to saying app pretty soon, at least it's shorter then program) but it's the old Bing map re-done and put in the start page; I keep forgetting that all this new stuff is made for the mobile users.

If you don't care for Google street view; you may like Bing's, streetside. I like the way you can manipulate it, and the maps, easier and streetside is quicker then Google and easier to control.

The 3d effect can be a little disorienting, but it can give you more of a feel for an area before you visit it; and you can look around in 3d, at the surrounding landscape, hills and mountains. It really opens up the view.
Bing doesn't have a compass on the streetside like Google does; but a map of the area is right below, and you click on that and a small map pops up, always north to the top, and the view of the camera is shown on the map in a pie shape. Bing's maps have come up in usefulness a lot since i've looked at them a few years ago.

Well...I have been getting the BSOC most people call it the "blue screen of death" but it's more like the "blue screen of crash" as it doesn't die, it just crashes then restarts. Luckily, the times I had some work in progress, I have been here at CF typing in a thread response and the "save draft" saved my bacon; never the less,; it's still irritating.

This has been happening for a week or so; but with increased frequency; and as I have all my drivers up to date and Win10 is running disk file system error checking, optimizing and defragmenting; with the automatic updates, I didn't see what else i could do.

But; on one of those Windows guru sites (his alias was actually Windows Ninja) it suggested running the disk error and defragment utilities, anyways. So i did, and, this may be telling; it took an hour and a half to run the defragmenter; which usually takes 15 minutes. Well, it's been 2 days now and haven't seen any blue screens, yet; so crossing my fingers.

Well; it seems the de-fragmenting I did a couple of weeks ago, fixed the problem I had with Win10 crashing with the BSOD; as I haven't had one since. So if your getting the blue screen and Windows 10 is crashing; try Defragging. There are several ways to get to the defragger and if your an experienced Windows user you don't need me to tell you how; but I'm writing this for those who don't know. Here is a tutorial that makes it real plain and explains why you might need to defrag your PC:

http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2723517/defrag-windows-computer.html

Now you might want to run the error checking utility; but just save yourself the time, cause when I ran mine it didn't find anything wrong; also if your on Windows automatic update (I think you should, as it keeps the security files updated) it does this all the time anyway.

Here is a site that tracks computer usage over the net. Altho it's not the number who have windows 10 installed it does show those who are using it; which is at about 17% of the computers online; which is a significant increase over August's total of about 5%.

https://www.gosquared.com/global/windows/10/#launch

Altho I had some problems when I installed Win10, they have been sorted out pretty well and it works now satisfactory; so I think those that are leery of 10, shouldn't be; it is as good as Win7 and maybe better in some ways; like device driver updates.

In another article from Forbes.com they said:

"Secret #9: Upgraded Edge Syncing

The potential of Internet Explorer replacement ‘Edge’ is there for all to see: it’s fast, smooth and stylish. But a severe lack of features (including any support for extensions) has hurt take-up. Threshold 2 doesn’t bring extensions, but plug another crucial gap: Cloud-syncing for passwords and favourites. Baby steps."

I concur with this assessment; this is why I switched to Chrome after a month or so of trying to use and get along with Edges bare-bones chassis; it's like a Model T compared with Chrome's '59 Cadillac. Then I switched again, to Slimjet, cause of all the snooping by Chrome; and haven't looked back; the ad blocker sealed the deal. Others, here on CF, had convinced me to try Slimjet; on the Chrome thread:

Well, here we go again...more problems with Edge--well if anybody is reading this thread any more; they might say--but you were using Slimjet; well i was until today; when I installed the Nov 11 update for win10 and after 2 hours of d/ling and installing; the first time i tried to go on the web SJ, crashed without even opening! So tried to use Chrome; but it wasn't even listed in the default list in settings. So i used good old clunky Edge trying to search for a reason for SJ crashing; but found nothing. Fortunately I had a copy of Chrome on my desktop so I got that going and was able to go thru it's settings to change the default browser; but SJ still crashes.

Are you on SJ x64? x32 will probably be better for you. Also try turning off hardware acceleration, if you can get that far. Another possibility is to test SJ portable. But x64 on windows is not recommended.

There's a thread about SlimJet crashing on win 10 here

http://www.slimjet.com/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=479

Thanks for that link; but that's about not being able to run SJ at all on 10; I have been able to run it, and untill this new 3GB major upgrade. it was running real fast and liked the ad blocker-that's what I miss when using Chrome.

I have been one in the past to half way defend MS and it's ways; but now it's like they said: "you will use Edge if we have to crash SJ and take chrome out of your default list; we know whats best for you."

Yah, I've got the x64 version and it's been working just fine, till this new version of win10; so MS must of changed something to effect that. Also why does Chrome work; it's 64 bit too. I thought, under the hood, chrome and SJ were pretty much the same.
