Throughout my life, I have been told that i'm going to be a leader. From many different people. My issue is, I don't know what this means. Large scale? small scale? local church? at my work place? I don't know.

The first instance, was my mom. The story is that my mother and father had the same dream about me when I was born. I was a big tiger, leading... not sure if it really means anything, but just telling you the first instance of when I heard "you're going to be a leader". Funny though, because if you guys know the chinese years and animals. I'm a dragon... lol 1988

The second instance, I went to a christian conference... it's called "The international house of prayer" it was quite an amazing experience. One of their sessions had a "prophecy" session, a little boy and 2 adults. The little boy was still learning, and the 2 adults where his mentors. Basically they said I will be a leader, friends are very important to me. Nothing too detailed, nothing too spooky. The little kids noise started bleeding, but again this was a session for tons of people. Not sure if it was a strain for him.

This third instance, the most recent one. I've moved into some new apartments, it's been about 4 months. There is an old sweet lady on the third floor that I help take groceries up for her. We've talked a little bit just to get to know one another. I know that she is a huge christian, and some of her family information. But to be quite honest, I don't remember her name. She would always say that me and my brother are the nicest, most considerate young men she's met in a while. I thought she was just being sweet and nice.
Well for Christmas my parents came from Florida to visit me and my brother. She said she wanted to meet my parents, well she did the day after christmas. She came into the apartments, and after talking for a bit with her and my parents getting to know her. All of a sudden she started talking about struggles that I was having......... AND out of shock they were on point. I was amazed.... or shocked. Then she said that I am going to be a leader.

I haven't heard that in a long time.... since the conference it's been maybe 10 years? I haven't been going to church for a while either consistently at least. I just need some insight on what this means... because I have no clue what kind of leader i'm going to be... a leader of what? a leader of who?

If more details need to be given, I will be more than happy to give them to you.

Don't worry so much about the how, when, who....instead, start working to develop the qualities of a good leader. A good start is "Developing the Leader Within You" by John Maxwell. Being a "born leader" is only the first part of true leadership...you also need to develop that part of yourself. You might also consider getting Maxwell's "21 Qualities of a Leader" and as you go through each quality, take an honest inventory of how you live out that quality. Note areas where that quality can be improved, and start working on them.

As your life continues to unfold, opportunities will find their way to you...you do not have to go looking for them. Also, be warned: being in a leadership position, or even just being considered a leader, is not a pleasant place to be. As well, it is other people who follow you that makes you a leader - it is not a place of position or an assumed title. People follow because you are worth following, not because you put yourself into a leadership position.

I wouldn't dwell on this or make more of it than it deserves. People apparently saw leadership qualities in you at an early age. That's not to predict any particular future position that you will occupy.

Whether you lead in small things or become truly a civic, business, or political "mover and shaker" depends on what you choose to attempt and what opportunities open to you.

The kind of person I am, I do not put myself into a position because I think I am worthy. Honestly I would never put myself in a leadership position, I will let others do that. I don't think lowly of myself, or think highly of myself. I know, and understand that being a leader is actually a crucial position. This is why i'm wondering why....

Daily we walk before the Lord.

Leave tomorrow in His hands.

Don't try to figure it out and try to live in the future as this will only cause you
Grief and cause you to stumble in your daily walk with God.

Make Christ your goal, not the future and what may or may not happen.

Take no thought for tomorrow but trust in the Lord to guide you day by day.

God is able to bring about His will in your life so daily trust in Him.

God is able.

When Joseph had his grand dream of his brothers bowing before him he
Had no Ideal the path God would choose to bring him to the place God had
Chosen for him.

Joseph had to daily trust in God when he found favor or when he was in prison.

Trust in Christ and make Him your goal in a deeper relationship with Him
And He will order your steps day by day to bring you to the place He wants you to be.

What has God given you to do now?

Has He entrusted those He loves into your care?

Don't neglect those that are precious and in your care today as you live
In the future of what could be.

If you are faithful in little things, God will add to you greater things.

Don't neglect what God has given you to care for today as
You concern yourself with what is ahead.

God orders our footsteps and doesn't give us the entire road map
so that we have no further need of Him.

Step by step, day by day oh Lord direct my way.

God is able to bring His will into your life if you will give Him your life
Each day and seek His will in the place you now stand.

Put together some of the things you described. A leader, you value friends, you befriended a woman by helping her.

A good leader networks people and brings together their skills, resources, and needs... so people get the help they need, and those with resources and skills feel useful.

This happens when you listen to people, care about them, and make friends with all sorts of diverse people. If a completely bossy leader wanted their own way, and had no concern for others, then no one would follow them. Or if a shy recluse cared about people but never connected with them, they would not effectively lead.

Joseph was a great example to use -- he had the personality to be a gutsy leader, but learned to serve others, to make those connections.

A public servant leads large groups of people.

In my years of striving to get ahead, I have learned that I can't accomplish everything I hope to, without involving other people's time and expertise. If I have an idea, I can't possibly get a product out myself before anyone else things of it, or before the public need has dissipated.

People need coordinators to help them make things happen in good timing.

As said above, I don't think God's point is that you have some vague mission you must discover, but that He has communicated an intent and encouragement to pursue opportunities that may arise.
Make Christ your goal, not the future and what may or may not happen.

Our life goal is to walk with Him, wherever that takes us.

That is probably why God needed to use prophesy, to build up your acceptance of the idea.

This morning on another thread I was looking up the giftings that contribute to church structure. There was a distinction between pastor and evangelist and prophet and administrator and teacher. All can appear to be leaders, but each uses a different trait or emphasis.

A shepherd-pastor is like a pet owner -- they make sure everyone is cared for and healthy. You are already doing that with the neighbor. You are already sacrificing your own comforts, to make sure others have what they need. Leading in a quiet, simple, thoughtful way.

Showing concern for the poor and sick was the focus of importance for Jesus, and now he lives spiritually in our hearts, all sorts of thought images about people in struggle can interfere with your personal priorities or pursuit to achieve your goals, such as a new marriage partner, new house, new car, to be financially secure and protected, knowing that the future is not always bright at the end of the rainbow, if you suffer income problems like job loss, a car accident - or funeral, once you have reached that old age where your body is too feeble to function properly:.
Hopefully, Jesus should return in his Second Coming while we are still alive, and if that definitely happens, rest assured, leadership qualities would automatically make us efficient without lack of knowledge or wisdom, simply because of our future-coming genius-intelligent minds of Christ,
besides our future-coming measure-perfect bodies, that will give us limitless memory power so that no matter who and how many brothers and sisters of Christ we socialize with actively, we will never suffer the embarrassment of forgetting anyone's name or background - considering that there is not one instance in the bible of Jesus suffering a memory stumbling block of forgetting one's name or background.;'*;.

I'm not sure about this. The Bible itself doesn't mention much in terms of leadership. That tends to be a Western idea, that "everyone can be a leader" (and usually they mean moral influence). But to be fair, I had a bad experience with the concept of leadership so maybe I'm biased.

Jesus is meant to be our leader. GOD is meant to be our leader. There's really no such thing as a "Christian leader", IMO. It's like having a flock of sheep being herded around by another sheep. That's just stupid!

But there is the possibility that God might be calling you to some sort of human leadership position. If He does, then just take your responsibilities very seriously and remember that your authority comes from God's grace, not your qualifications or your parents' predictions.

I heard a good sermon once, showing a Genesis model for leadership putting man over the animals, but not over each other. I wouldn't take that example to extremes, because coordinators are always needed... but it might clarify how leaders are not meant to be oppressive and bossy -- they are there to bring out the strengths of each workers, and coordinating timing, responsibility, and a stable vision.

God will do the appointing, the Holy Spirit lives in each believer and He
is adept at revealing godly things.

Did anybody tell you that you were going to be a leader in a church? From what you say that you've been told you might be just as likely to end up owning a service station with 4-5 employees to lead.

I can tell you that what ever God has in store for you won't come to pass very quickly. It'll probably take years for Him to prepare you before He actually opens these doors. So, don't get in a hurry and start training yourself, or trying to develop leadership qualities somebody else says you need because what training you do need God will provide. Just trust Him and don't try to figure it out.

Blessings,

Alan

So what are you actually doing now that is a leadership position? I think there are people who are born with the innate ability to lead, but it is also a learned skill. And learning takes practice. Instead of being idle and musing about what these comments to you mean, go out and do. I recommend that you start small, though. Perhaps a small, one-time project at church like a food drive or something. Just throwing something out there.

There was a book I saw a long time ago about Jesus as a servant leader. I don't really remember the actual title, though, but it may be pretty straightforward like "Servant Leadership." If you can find it, you may find that helpful.

"What does GOD and his son JESUS CHRIST tell you?" what is your following of him indicate? Don't be to hasty to always listen to people and what they advise or tell you.

Proverbs 3:5-6King James Version (KJV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

If it's GOD's will by the grace of his son JESUS that you are to lead; lead by example of LOVE and integrity of sound quality righteous character and not by the standards of this world and the flesh nature, but a vessel of the spirit that is of true belief and LOVE.

Matthew 22:14King James Version (KJV)
14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Seek the truth through discernment, and as I always state who is the TRUTH? He is the way, the TRUTH and the life; being JESUS the son of GOD.

Praise be to GOD the heavenly father and his son lord JESUS CHRIST forever>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This looks like an old post.
We are meant to follow Jesus and do as he leads. Since non chrisitans cant see who Jesus is all they might see if someone is following Jesus that we do things nobody else does..then they might call us a leader cos nobody else is doing that.

You know, Christ calls you to be his follower and to be a servant of others. He calls you to humility, and service, and meekness. It is a fad of the culture that we must all strive to be leaders. Leaders are achievers; they are getting things done; they are directing others; they are shaping the future; they are the really successful people. Don't you want to be a leader? Blah, blah, blah. How about what Christ said?

Matthew 16:24-26
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

Mark 10:42-45
42 But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, "You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.
43 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant.
44 And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all.
45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

Selah.
