This is arguable but I would say they have legal protection, but not job protection. As a federal employee I can tell you that you agree to choose to pursue the governments mandates over your religious predilections when you take the job. That's so they can fire you or you quit. They can't prosecute though due to 1st amendment. Stuff like this is the whole reason the military must retain the contientious objector status. They can't make you do things against your religion. People forget this nowadays.

Alright, thankyou. That lines up with what everyone else seems to be saying as well - you just want to contest the legality of the ruling.

I'll go back to my igloo to watch hockey now.

Well...whether or not those are actually his words is debatable. There are scholars who've concluded that it isn't likely that Jesus ever said any of the words he's been quoted on.

Regardless of that though...it isn't Jesus saying the words anymore, is it? So I'd say they were rather successful.

When a majority of the country supports the legalization of murder, you will have a point.

If what they are doing isn't illegal, then she has no right to tell them not to do it.
there is a difference between illegal and immoral.

and if she's a Christian, is in a position to have the approval over what they are asking,
then yes, she has a moral obligation to be sure that they are warned
that what they contemplate doing has eternal consequences.

look at it this way. If a highway worker knows that the bridge in the road ahead is unsafe to travel over,
isn't he obligated to warn any drivers of the danger ahead?

Nope, pretty sure nothing in there about that. Now if you've done a duel, that's a whole other matter

Neither. I live in the good ol' U.S. of A! Where people have the right to marry either a woman or a man if that's what makes them happy and no government employee can deny them this right that was settled upon by the highest court in all the land. I don't know if Russia or China grant people that level of freedom and I don't care because I don't live in either of those countries.

Go ahead and preach to them with a warning, but give them the license, they are legally entitled to have and the clerk has taken an oath to uphold the constitution.

One of the benefits of being an elected official. In the private sector, you would be fired immediately.

In reality though, it just buys them time and her days are numbered.

She's an elected official? I didn't realize her position was an elected one...

If she sticks to her guns on this, I'd imagine she'll face some heavy fines and eventually jail time. I would imagine that in Kentucky's state law, elected officials who go to jail over their jobs are probably removed from office.

America is finally moving away from that kind of religious dominance of Christianity in this country. And I think it's about time. Hopefully soon, we will be able to move away from its exclusiveness and remove its exclusive influences in our country, like remove its marks from our national currency and out of the current pledge. We could move forward and make all religions equal in this country and not allow one particular religion to become exclusive and dominant by giving it special rights and special privileges.

It is deplorable remarks like that that give the Christians here insight as to why an atheist joins a Christians community.

You'd be surprised how often we hear it. Personally, at this point it's a bit like claiming a meteor is going to fall out of the sky and kill me. Sure...it could happen...but the reality is that it won't happen.

So all those Christians have chosen to ignore scripture on divorce and remarriage. So why should anyone pay attention whatsoever to any scripture? That's just cherry picking to suit all those divorced and remarried Christians.

You can move on all you like, but the hypocrisy written deep into those kind of statements is a very poor witness for Christ.

no, all those Christians chose to ignore what makes a good husband or wife. or they were married to people who chose to ignore them.
either way it was not a relationship. or a true marriage.

The Declaration of Independence carries no legal weight in the US. It is a declaration of war. It is not a law that establishes or defines the country in any official capacity, nor does our awkward national motto.
