We are forgetful. Time in the Word helps us to remember.

Romans 15: 15a Yet I have written you quite boldly on some points to remind you of them again (NIV)

We use reminders in our lives every day. If we don’t use reminders, then we will forget things that are really important to us. Today is my wife’s birthday. Imagine how cold it would be at my house if I forgot her birthday. Just the same way, we are forgetful in our Christian walk. That is why Paul told the Romans he was reminding them boldly on some points. Just like the Romans, we are forgetful too. We need to be in the Word daily so that we are reminded of where we came from and our purpose to reach the lost with the Gospel of Christ. If we are not in the Word daily, then we will forget these and other key points. Point is, spend time in the Word every day or you are going to forget.

That's how i see it as well. The scriptures remind us when we forget. Sometimes people think that we must search scriptures until we understand every mystery, but to me that's not a restful place to be. I would rather just be reminded of the good teachings of Christ so i wont forget which way to go if i forget. Sure there is a time and place to seek those things but in the end we will find that it leads in different directions according to different people. I dont want a forked road, but i need instead a clear path to walk. I embrace simplicity and i truly believe that this is what Christ gave us. Simplicity.
