I did cheat a little bit. To get that deep, rumbling bass, I also had the pipe organ fired up, using the base pipes.
I dont blame you. If I seen a pipe organ sitting around in the background somewhere not being utilized I would fire it up as well. You cant just leave it out of the equation, its still a real instrument and a good one at that.

Oh, absolutey. Being the king of all instruments, I absolute use one when I have the chance. I used one in the following:
https://soundcloud.com/https%3A%2F%2Fsoundcloud.com%2Ffourwindsangels%2Fspiritual-adventure
Thats great and it sounds like you use many instruments. Do you play them all yourself. The drums are very reminiscent of Pink Floyd or at least the mixing of them does. I am jealous of the quality and the use of authentic instruments to get that rich sound.

Nope. I have some friends who travel and play with and for me. I also have friends around the world who play and send the tracks to me. The organ, however, I practiced for hours at a time till I taught myself the chord progressions. Again, I cheated by playing the bass pedals separately from the five treble manuals of the Wurlitzer. I'm not proficient enough to do both. The drums I also practiced for hours since I can barely walk and chew gum at the same time..... (Being an Engineer, I spend more time designing systems and solving design problems than playing music.) I can't play nearly as well as many professional drummers I've enjoyed watching over the years, but Pimk Floyd could afford some of the best I've ever seen in the industry. The guitar parts for Spiritual Adventure were played by friends in foreign countries. Some of them are SOOOOO good at what they do. Haven't talked with them lately since they're pretty busy on their own projects, but I try to keep in touch.

Just wish I could find a good lyricist and really good female vocalist.

I know a guy on sound cloud who I have been following for a while. He has a unique singing and writing ability. His voice is a little different but it sounds like aged wine that has many qualities about it. But he can write some good songs that are very descriptive. He tend to write more along the classical style but with a folk or even medieval style. He does a lot of collaborations and I know he has some great female singers who he either records for or sings with.

Anyway here are a couple of my favorites so check him out.

It would be interesting to see and hear some of the vocalists he knows (if any are looking to do some vocal work for the style of music that I do). Are any of them not attached to a group already? I ask because most who already have attachments to groups don't have the time and energy to commit to additional projects. There's lots of different talents out there, some that fit well with my music, and some that don't. How do I go about hearing some of the vocalists he knows?

I will put that to him. But I do know he is fairly flexible. He often puts out a song and asks if anyone would like to record their own version. Thats why you will see a few different versions of the same song. The only problem I can see is Ian may feel its overstepping the mark as far as taking any people he has set up collaborations with. The best thing is to share some music to begin with and then get talking to him. The best way is to like and follow his music or someone he works with and get talking. But there is also nothing stopping you from putting it out there like he has done and ask for collaborations. There are many thousands of musicians who are trying to get their music out and many are open to working with others.

From what Ive seen there are heeps of female singers who are out there having a go. To much talent to all be discovered and many are really good. I think many are realistic enough to know that they may never make it big and they are in it for the music more than the fame. But like I say you have to be a bit careful as there are some big egos around as well. But thats what soundcloud is for to share your music and find other like minded people. From a couple of female vocalists that I have got to know they are relatively unknown and making their music in their bedrooms like many of us. I just thought Ian had a different style about him and had some similar aspects to what you do. He seems flexible in his style and not the main stream music.
Here is one from Emma Caiman who I have been following.

This is another person I like and one of my favorites. He is a Greek guy who goes by the name of the fisherman. It goes to show you will get all sorts of artists from all over the world trying to get their stuff out there..

Thanks, Steve. I appreciate the lead. I'll do some looking and listening this coming weekend.

Just finished this one today:

Very nice, its amazing how even instrumentals can portray a picture. The show must go on, for some reason it made me think of that movie birdman apart from all those Hollywood movies you think of and of course Liza Minnelli.

Actually I have a friend that just came to mind who does instrumentals as well but more along the lines of the young style music whatever they call it. My daughter plays the guitar and sings as well and he is a friend of hers and he also plays the guitar. But he likes to dabble in the loops and put some tracks down as well. Most of it does my head in but occasionally you get a good sound coming out thats pretty groovy.

Steve, I think they call that "house" or "party" music. Simple enough to remember. Not really my thing any more. Rhythmic repetition may work ok for parties where bodies are writhing and gyrating around. I'm too old to do that any more (sheepish grin).

Yeah me too and I'm getting a vision of me doing me back in and getting escorted off the dance floor. I dont mind a good beat and rhythm. I tend to like a bit of blues nowadays but have always been into a folk type sound maybe with a bit of a twist. But being a song writer I tend to make my own unique sounds which can be a little of everything.

Yes, I am a worshipper, musician, and writer. Here is a link to my latest release: http://songsofthekingdom.wix.com/electro-pop-singer
Good stuff and very uplifting music. I can hear your joy coming through. I also sing and record but I havnt been able to get my sound as good as yours yet. I am still learning to record and mix and I guess it also comes down to the quality of your equipment. One thing I have had some trouble with is backing instruments and sounds. I play the guitar and some bass. But I am not really good at things like drums or piano yet. So I use the VST instruments. They are OK but they tend to be a bit unreal.

I noticed your drums seem to either be real or you are making your own beats with a machine. I sometimes do this but often use loops which can be repetitive and have no variation. I notice you also use a piano and organ in parts. Are your instruments real ones or software ones or a combination of both. I know there are some pretty good recording software out there that probably sounds fairly real. I notice that your sound is pretty clean as well. Do you have a home studio and is it decked out acoustically. I am just trying to learn as I go.
Thanks Steve.

Steve, glad you liked the songs. My gear is nothing amazing. For an interface I have a Focusrite Saffire 14 and an M-audio Delta 10/10. For drums I use the software Propellerhead Reason using the drum refill. My piano is a Yamaha p-95. I also play electric bass, electric and acoustic guitars, harmonica and, of course, the vocals. My "studio" is just a room in my house, no acoustic treatment at all.....I was just blessed with a good sounding room. I use Sonar Cakewalk X3 producer to track and Presonus Studio One 3 to master. Between the two I use Steinberg Wavelab and T-racks to refine the sound. I lay out the cd and burn it in Adobe Audition CS6. I've been doing this for a while now, and I have improved over the years, but I'm also still learning as I go. Get the best sound you can when you're tracking and you'll find that will make the biggest difference in your sound. Having a decent interface also helps. Anyway, thanks for listening, and be blessed!

My hand is up, on the musicians in the house. I recently purchased an electric violin and a fender amp. The violin is a very versatile instrument, it can play anything thing from Mozart, to Cotton Eyed Joe. I like both. And the amp adds a tremendous amount of options a standard acoustic violin cannot offer. I also sing, and play keyboards a bit by ear. But with this instrument, I am teaching myself to read music as well as play by ear. It is like learning a new language, I find it both interesting and therapeutic as well. There is no difference by the way, between a fiddle and a violin. Apart from the strings, gut strings lend warmth, steel core strings are more appropriate for "fiddling". I am more into the fiddling aspect and recently ordered a book from the Appalachians on bowing and other techniques by the old master fiddlers in those mountains. Music is a blessing and a gift from God. I love my fiddle, I named her Scarlet, and I thank God for her every day. Now if I can just nail those bowing techniques!

Are you into Christian rock, as well as hymns?

Hey everybody, I am a Christian musician/vocalist. I just joined the community here. If anyone wants to collab or anything, just send me a message! I would love to do vocals on someone else's music.

I also make music of my own, mostly rap or EDM. You can hear some examples of my voice and music here: https://soundcloud.com/christlovesuperwax
