Foiled Paris attack sparks fresh calls for US rail security | The Hill

Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) are urging the TSA to "to implement security and safety improvements ... to our country’s public transportation and passenger rail systems" ...
One can just imagine how great the imagined TSA would become. Personally, I'm just glad I don't have to rely on public transportation.

We should be getting rid of the TSA if anything.

When terrorists start killing as many as our daily commutes maybe I'll get on board with draconian and questionably effective measures.

They have their work cut out for them. We would need 5 9/11's a year to match how many die on our highways annually.

Since 2003 TSA Agents have stopped zero terrorists, at the same time they have stolen from we the people over 300 times. Great program huh?

I had a friend who was a TSA Agent for a few years, decided to resign because of the lunacy.
One day he was performing secondary inspection on Joe Montana. After, he asked his boss if he thought that was a waste of time, not like Montana is going to hijack an aircraft. He was told to shut up or be fired.

I do think that buses, trains and subways are easier targets. TSA has been helpful from the standpoint of making security more visible. Like everything else, it is time to evolve.

Public transportation safety has to be done locally for the most part. take some of that money and reallocate it to help train and modernize local resources where needed.

What good is visible security if that security is well known for being ineffective?

Well now you know where to target, just look for the TSA, they won't do anything anyway :D.

I think everyone has seen how useless the TSA is.

Just have metal detectors and security guards. Was good enough for decades.

Yep, good enough, that is, until a September day a few years ago.

Obama should be impeached just for founding the TSA.

Most security will be inadequate for a smart, determined terrorist or group. Especially if a suicide attacker is involved.

... and smart, determined attackers will always be extremely vulnerable to humble God-fearing individuals who know they have nothing to lose by facilitating the attacker's suicide wishes.

ersonally, I'm just glad I don't have to rely on public transportation.

If you live in a decently-sized city like me, it sure beats the heck out of being stuck driving in traffic.

And in places like the Northeast Corridor, Amtrak continues to see record ridership year after year (they're actually beating the airlines in that area), so security on trains might become more urgent as more and more people ride. I'm not saying we necessarily need airport-style security (which is terrible), but having almost no security might not be the best situation either.
