I went to Vancouver BC once on vacation with my family, we crossed the ocean on the Black Ball Ferry and spent a week in Canada. I'll never forget that vacation -- it was so enchanting! We visited the Butchart Gardens (its almost like something out of a fairy tale), saw a spectacular light show, went swimming in an indoor water park, and ate at some of the best restaurants in the city.

One thing I noticed about Vancouver British Columbia is that the culture there seems to be riddled with Killer Whales. There are totem poles depicting sea life everywhere. Do you Canadians have an obsession with Orcas or something?

The Butchart Gardens are by Victoria. My wife and I were in BC a while back. Whale watching is very popular, both on Canada's west coast and east coast also.

Hello,

Summer of 2013, I was able to manage a 10 weeks vacation period. So my wife and I travelled from Quebec to British Columbia, pulling a small camper trailer. We spent three weeks in British Columbia alone, 4 days in Vancouver, one week on Vancouver Island, where we went all the way to the West side of the island. All of this was really great...

But so was our going back to Quebec through Washington... and South Dakota...

God bless all who may read this thread.

My wife and I were out in BC a while ago. Some Canadians call the coastal part the Canadian Riviera. :)
That sounds about right. I recently moved back to the Riviera after having lived in the beautiful prairies. I think all parts of this huge continent have their own beauty, charm and breathtaking views. :) One day I hope to make a cross country RV-trip.

The Butchart Gardens are in my hometown, Victoria :) Glad you enjoyed it! As for our obsession with orcas, well, I guess it's just that they're a common sight, and they've become sort of a symbol for the west coast. They're beautiful creatures who feature heavily in First Nations art and mythology (as does marine life in general, at least in west coast tribes like the Salish if I'm not mistaken), and you see them quite often as you're traveling from island to island. They're one of my favourite animals for sure! I've been within a few meters of them and they're absolutely breathtaking.
