After barely 24 hrs, have had to uninstall Windows 10. Yesterday we could not get beyond the login screen and it took AGES to boot up. A quick google saw that quite a few users were experiencing the same problem. So late into last night I had to uninstall and revert back to horrendous Windows 8.1.

Will now wait until Microsoft has this OS running a few months before I give it a look in again.

Now today when I woke up my laptop I didn't have to put in my Outlook password; maybe it heard me complaining about it.:)

Yes it seems to hear my complaining; as the problem of the taskbar not auto-hiding has went away as well; or maybe I can read my thoughts.:D

I'm glad a Windows 10 thread was started. Came here today specifically for this reason.

Initially I got a certain error message every time Windows 10 tried to upgrade. According to some in the microsoft forum this was normal and expected as the program was evaluating my system etc. However, Microsoft was mum on this issue which didn't please me so I took the advice of someone on the forum suggesting that people with this error message etc had a corrupted download. Any way....I took the advice of what we can do and it worked well. Apart from the initial failed tries / error message, the upgrade went very well and I'm very impressed especially since my security program handled the transition very very well and all my info / setting remained intact etc. (Kudos to Kaspersky Total Security programmers for this!) :D

I will say I'm happy with the promised start menu except for some of the preloaeded items and that I can't seem to find a way to delete a group with some of the icons. I have managed to uninstall some and unpin them but I had to restart my computer in order for the changes to take place. Hopefully they will tune this up.

I also miss the charms side menu on the desk top but I do like the way the task bar is set up etc.

However, I'm disappointed with the set up regarding color / personalization or maybe I"m missing something but I'm not seeing much option for personalization and color etc.

As with Windows Vista and Windows 8 I'm disappointed with the way they've set up the settings options. Again they've spent more time prying into our privacy than they have setting up / organizing the settings and computer maintenance options. This, along with the Windows fax and Scan mess up, has been my biggest annoyance with Windows 8. One big disappointment is with the way they have the programs list set up. Not very efficient for uninstalling programs etc. :( It's organized completely different.

However I have to say, so far, I'm happier with Windows 10 than I am with Windows 8. Mind you I still have to check out various aspects of the program like the scanning etc.

lol This may sound trite but I'm very very happy that they have finally increased the size of the task bar calendar.

Yes, at first I had a little trouble finding the control panel, as it was not in the start page; but after finding with a search, I pined it to the start page. Control panel is exactly like it was in Win7 and install/uninstall is the same. The program list is different from 7; but it is easier to use, 7 had so many ways of looking at files, it could be confusing.

I'm wondering have you all updated all your programs (Windows and security programs) before the upgrade attempt etc.? I made sure all my updates, security checks and backups were done well etc. I also took the advice of deleting all the items in my downloads as well...

Any way....I'm relieved once I sorted the initial error message problem, the actual upgrade and security program transition went very well. :swoon:

Yeah I hear you. The list is easier to see but for some reason it loads slower and as I scroll down the list it needs a few second each time to keep loading. The other thing is that the page with the program list doesn't have as many options. I guess I prefer the options. ;)

Yes, I had the settings icon on my start menu right off the bat but that may be because I've already had it there in my previous version and all my settings seem to have transferred over well.

Features such as translate and add-ons are coming. And Edge's vaunted speed will go when they do.

Having a convo at sevenforums regarding 10, and there's a widespread consensus that MS is offering the bait, but already with plenty of signs of strings being attached. I'm on two Win10 mailing lists (Windows 10 phone and Windows 10 Insider), and MS has no way to get off them. The links go nowhere. It's their new Hotel California subscription strategy. As I familiarize myself with my new LinuxLite install, I'm very happy to have made the switch. It's called freedom.

I selected the custom options when I upgraded and unchecked various agreements to share info. Also, I don't use the microsoft account type of account. I use the older version of local account types. I much prefer this. I'm big on privacy though....

The joys of a Full clean install. Though the system should be stable.

And I've still got my old Drive to fall back on.

I know what you mean... time consuming and lots of work. ...not fun. Some times every year or so, I'll do a clean reinstall / recovery if I'm feeling bogged down by crud or what have you. Luckily this time I've done a simple Windows 10 upgrade and it's all good so far... I'm relieved. ...lol once I dealt with the initial error message issue. any way...

Well been using it a few days, other the finding out I didn't reinstall everything I thought I'd need (ODBC Drivers ) and that Windows 10 didn't like my 5+ year old webcam, it's been quite stable.

Turned on "Notify to schedule restart" so at least I've got that controlled, personally I'd rather just be notified that there are updates & what they are before they install.

Auto Backups appear to be running to a Networked Drive (WD My Cloud) without issues.
Visual Studio 2012 is running fine & building my projects and services that run on Windows Server without issues so far.

I have begun experiencing this to an extant. What brothers me more is my menu will not open sometimes I have to logout and back in and get a netiosys error after a few hours of using Win 10. I am thinking about reverting back myself

My son sent us an email when the upgrade flag popped on his taskbar alerting him of the Win10 upgrade opportunity.

I'll share here so others can peruse the links he shared at their leisure. (Why Windows 10 Sucks) The number of videos alone is daunting in themselves. While 23 million results speak volumes for why we'll stick with Windows 7.

I would submit that the difference between sucks and great probably depends on how much someone wants to invest on upgrading peripherals. All in order to turn sucks into great.
I replaced one 5 year old peripheral. an old webcam.
All the other hardware is the same.
Same Mouse, Motherboard, Graphics card, Monitors, Memory, CPU, Printer, USB Hubs, Sound Cards, Video Capture Cards, ect.

Yes, I was happy to see that my programs & devices managed well with the upgrade.

I know what you mean about wanting to view the updates before they are installed. When I researched this whole upgrade, I came across info... can't remember if it was when I upgraded or on the microsoft site but I think for the first bit they wanted to have the program on automatic update to ensure it was loaded properly or some such... not quite sure... I need to search this info out again.

I too prefer seeing some updates before they are installed especially for some programs like adobe  etc. I did find out more information and options regarding some aspects of updating:

Ok you get 43 Million for Windows 10 sucks.
But you get 540 Million for Windows 10 is Great.

I hear ya... My experience has been a better one than some here but I'm finding I prefer things with Windows 10 than windows 8 / 8.1

One of the big improvements in 10 is that now even though I use a local account instead of a microsoft account to sign onto my computer, I can use some of the apps like a game in xbox and only sign into that one app with my microsoft account rather than having to sign my whole computer account in only using a microsoft account which I hate doing. So when I click free cell game it now gives me the option of only using my microsoft account for that app rather than needing to sign my whole computer account in with my microsoft account and I can still use individual apps that I couldn't use with a local account before. I don't really care if Microsoft tracks my free cell game status but I do care that they want to track every other aspect of my waking day / shopping / hobbies etc. so this option is a great improvement.

I wanted to switch Linux distros on my secondary machine today, so I thought first I'd go back to my Windows7 backup and see about upgrading to 10...Ugh not only did it take 15 minutes just to search for updates in W7, it took another 10 to install. No Windows 10 either. It said they'll notify me when it's available for me. Oh well.

Here is a Microsoft site that you can D/L Win10 right now:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

I found it from PCadvisor in the UK:
