I wrote some time back about approaching my manager to see if I could get any more hrs since I work 16 hrs a week. I waited until I sensed I should ask before taking any other action. Well Friday I emailed her, just like someone advised I should. I kept it as brief as possible. Someone had told me she could probably help, but the dept I was wanting to get somehow phased all their work to us and only one person is doing this. She told me if I wanted something else I should apply thru hr. Duh I know this and have been trying. Meanwhile I'm trying to find other ways to bring in a little here and a bit there as far as money goes.

I don't know all that's involved with this, but it sounds as though she's inviting you to make an appointment to speak to her about it. An email probably isn't considered to be anything more than a quick introduction of your interest in the matter.

But as I said, I didn't follow along with any previous posts from anyone on this subject, so if you have tried for a face-to-face discussion and couldn't get one, or something else like that, I apologize for offering what may seem like uninformed advice.

I did the email because I know how busy she is. I didn't want to barge into her office if she was in the middle of something. She emailed me and said she was available. So I went in and talked to her about the possibility of increasing my hrs or in another dept. she said if I wanted to do that, I would have to inquire at hr. Now I've looked at different want ads at the website, only thing I haven't done is to talk to hr face to face, but I have the feeling they would say "just look at the website". grr

Ah, my mistake. When you wrote "apply through hr" I thought that could be a typo and you meant "apply through her," meaning she was inviting you to make a more formal application--to her--than just an email request. It just didn't occur to me that you meant "H.R." Sorry.

From what I've heard, there are a lot of people in the same fix, but on the other hand, I know someone who finally decided to risk seeming like a complainer and just went ahead and talked to management about more hours and was told, in effect, "OK. We didn't know you were interested," so I doubt that you'd be doing wrong to try for it.

I also told her if she couldn't then I would try to find something on my own to fill in the gaps. I did not say I'd quit, but depending on what I can find is what happens next with God's help of course.

I work per diem at the hospital so after working 40 hrs (and had no life afterwards), then someone else and myself got booted down to 16, she has 24 though I think. Seems they are cutting down the workforce for our dept and still expect the same amount of work to come out though. I have low thyroid and have occasional anxiety so I'm praying about my involvement there

Thyro max or some other supplement can help there, along with iodine rich foods like seaweed, miso soup etc. with anxiety make it a regular habit to cast all your cares upon the Lord. He can take that burden and give you peace.
