• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

OCD or these compulsive thoughts are the hardest things I have ever dealt with in my entire life. On more than one occasion, I have begged the Lord to take my life. Even though it might not seem like it, these tests and trials (in the form of illness) are meant to prove our faith as genuine and help us trust the Lord with all our hearts and minds. Even if we feel like we are battling ourselves, the Lord sees the struggle. He knows who we truly are. We don't have to tell him that it's not us and/or we don't think like that. He knows the thoughts don't originate from our spirit (our true self). In Psalm 46:10, it is written "Be still, and know that I am God". For us, the Lord will take care of everything. IF we put our trust and faith in him, Jesus is ultimately responsible for our well being. He is a faithful God. He has promised to love us, guide us and give us our needs. He will never let us down.

What a beautiful message. I was on the verge of suicide at one point in my life too because of my OCD. God has brought me so far and I am so grateful for His grace, mercy, and love. I've continued to trust through this and he has brought me further than I ever thought I would be. I want to be there for others who are suffering to let them know that God loves you and He is still holding you in the palm of His hands. Don't give up :)

This is a really beautiful and encouraging message, thank you. :)
Scrupulosity is the hardest thing I've ever been through too but it's brought me to a place where I had nothing left but to trust and hope in Jesus.

Incidentally, I love the song 'Still' by Hillsong because it is so relate-able for people with OCD.

When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with You above the storm
Father you are King over the flood
I will be still, know You are God

Find rest my soul
In Christ alone
Know His power
In quietness and trust

The line 'I will be still, know You are God' really got to me and still does. It's a challenge to 'be still' when all you want to do is run away from the chaos inside your own head. If you can get to that place of stillness and trust despite this illness then cherish it because it is truly a blessing and something I haven't been able to fully master myself yet.

I know exactly how you feel. Jesus told us in this world WE WILL HAVE TROUBLES! But he has overcome this world, so if we need strength, we need to lean on him. Do not lean on your own understanding. Lean on Jesus. Reject your feelings .. especially with OCD because they are manipulative. OCD will try to convince you of almost anything you don't want to think about or believe. If you have an anchor (Jesus), you wont be moved. You know what is real, God knows what is real. So avoid the thoughts. It's not you!
For me , whenever things get too chaotic in my brain, I say to myself "These are not my feelings, these are not my thoughts". It's not much, but it helps me realize its not me. I separate me from the disease.
As for the Meds, I think every decision like that is up to the individual. It's not a pro or a con to decide to use Meds. Personally, I don't use it.

Remember: Jesus Loves you! He has a plan for you through this whole process. When I used to pray previously, I used to say to God, "You don't have to heal me but just tell me your plan so I can understand why I need to go through this!".. But recently, God revealed to me Trusting him requires blindness. If he tells me his plan but I'm not healed, There is no point to the whole process. Trusting God requires us to FOLLOW him and BELIEVE his word when all thing seem dark. Some days are easier than others but KNOW that Jesus is ALWAYS with you. He never leaves. Just think about it: Through this whole ordeal, we are all on the road to trust God MORE than our own brain. Now that's pretty cool.

I was on meds for a while and they helped tremendously. I also had a therapist who specialized in OCD and he happened to be a Christian. He completely changed my life. So I would say yes they helped me and they could help you too!
