What are your hobbies, not something you want to try but something you do?

I myself like to hike and camp but right now I am getting into electric bikes, I am building one right now. My next one will be a Mongoose Fat tire bike and then a 3 wheel bike. The hard part is learning what works at an affordable price. Right now I am studying a lot so I will not spend a bunch of money on unnecessary stuff. Like learning about lithium batteries over lead acid batteries and amp hours and the stuff. It is fun and interesting. Someday I will have a bike that can do 30 mph for 100 miles on one charge that cost just pennies.

Here is a vide on electric bikes.

^Cool stuff.

I'm very passionate about genealogy and I regularly do genealogical research. I could spend hours doing it. In fact, I easily killed off at least 3 hours in one sitting a couple days ago with a hit of information I stumbled on. It's fascinating stuff.

I also do boxing. Some look at it like exercising and merely a workout, but I personally consider it a hobby for myself. It's my physical activity/hobby several days a week.

Genealogy is awesome. I am currently working on my own genealogy project. I really wanted to find which part in Africa one side of my family originated on, alas, I cannot only put it down to Western Africa, as records were not kept on slaves.
I am soon to begin on my European heritage.

My hobbies include playing and composing music, writing, reading and photography.

I was in my towns boxing club in my early teens. It is a good workout and will keep you fit without being overly bulky. Look at Muhammad Ali, the greatest fighter there has ever been but yet not all bulked up like a MMA fighter or Hulk Hogan, he was just very fit and fast and powerful.

Cross training is another good one and I am considering starting it. A guy I work with does cross training 3 times a week and he is very fit.

Photography- mostly nature or architectural subjects
French/Spanish- trying to learn a new language can be a hobby right?
Reading
Writing- mostly poetry and bits and pieces for blogs
Genealogy- I've got one side of my family tracked to the early 1700's but can't get us across the pond...which is pretty frustrating.
Art (sketching, doodling, etc)

Due to my back issues I had to give up or cut back on my active activities...hopefully that will change soon.

I collect books, and appreciate a good binding.

I enjoy learning, and consider it a loss if I'm unable to listen to an audio book or lecture on a drive, or waiting for something.

I write occasionally, and have been trying to master a variant of Anglo-Saxon alliterative verse in Modern English (search Alliterative Verse and Alliterative Revival on Facebook, and see what a low-level interest it is). Since I'm a dunce at metre, I usually end up reworking into alliterative prose. It has the cadence and music (and occasionally the strictures) of alliterative verse with the accessibility of prose. I've also tried my hand at writing poetry using Hebraic parallelism.

Regarding prose, I usually write short stories of a allegorical, fantasy or horror bent.... If anyone is interested, one of my short stories was read aloud and can be listened to here.... Shameless self-promotion since I'm still rather satisfied with that one. My on-again-off-again project is an epic of creation for the Judaeo-Christian tradition whose sources range from pseudepigrapha to English mystery plays. I am still collecting material, and I don't foresee that state changing for a few years.

Another hobby of mine is Old Testament literary studies, Anglo-Saxon literary studies... And Old Testament and Anglo-Saxon literary studies. And Ancient Near Eastern History, as well as Church History.

Mediaeval literature and generic literary criticism also hold special places in my heart.

There are probably others that I'm not thinking of at the moment.

Audio equipment - I'm a bit of an audio nut and built my own surround sound system a few years ago. (The side surrounds are the only store-bought speakers, and the presence speakers if I ever get them hooked up again.) But front towers, center, and sub were built myself.

Woodworking - building aforementioned speakers, a small computer desk, and also some other small/random projects.

Electronics - soldering up crossover boards, and fixing electronics around the house when they quit working.

I also made some of my own TV antennas, using online designs. Sometimes it feels like a hobby, but sometimes its done out of necessity because I don't like paying for cable TV (I don't watch enough of the channels, really). And most of the antennas they sell in the department stores are garbage.

Exercising/weight lifting. Probably not as much of a hobby as boxing, but its an interest. I was doing a program, 5-6 days a week for 3 months. Sort of fell out of the habit when I moved, but would like to get back into it. High-intensity interval training (sprints), and weight lifting.

Also the occasional hardscape project - laying brick patios, retaining walls, building steps/porches from retaining wall block, small freestanding walls for flower/plant beds, ect. I haven't done a patio or hardscape project in a few years now, but its something I enjoy so I'd like to get into it again, someday.

You are all so interesting.

I dabble in the (amateur) harassment of creepy crawlies. Primarily sticking coloured dots on them and recording their movement patterns, but also monitoring their habitats. Which totally counts as a hobby.

I also wander around scribbling down information on plants, because plants are cool.

This may be an excuse to go pond dipping, hedge bashing and wood rummaging... but it's for science. Amateur science! Paid opportunities in the world of little things are few and far between, and even if one were to arise I'd have to deal with a whole lot of red tape and pressure to concentrate on more charismatic species. This way I get to do what I like, without the worry my job is going to be axed when funding is re-prioritised. Sorted.

Have you thought of buying an FTA receiver? Of course, a lot of what you get is in other languages. But, my brother and I have turned off the audio and done our own ad-lib. We used to do that with DVDs too. Makes them much, much more interesting.:ahah:

Haha... that reminded me of Mystery Science Theatre 3000. :D

I looked into it a little bit when I was living in a fringe area in WI, with lots of cliffs and hills. But my main goal at that time was to get local stations so I could watch the Packer games. :D But maybe those also are broadcast over satellite, even if they're not nationally televised games?

It certainly looks like it could be a better option, since I'm having difficulty getting good UHF reception here.

World music - i.e. Flamenco, Desert Blues, Sufi, Traditional and folk music from Asia, Middle East, Maghreb & Europe.

Awesome. I love music, especially choral and classical. I don't imagine myself ever being able to compose it though.
