Is Heavy Metal Satanic?

My son has started listening to heavy metal recently. I've listened to and read the lyrics to some of his favorite songs while he is at school, and they seem to be very satanic and anti-religion. For example the band Cannibal corpse seems obsessed with murder and the band Behemoth has an album called The Satanist. What are you're thoughts on this?
I think to say it is all Satanic is quite a stretch. Are some bands and specific songs anti-Christian would be the better question? Yes, some are. However, I think it is more important to look at the content of song lyrics. Not all bands and songs are anti-Christian in content. There are even bands in the genre that are Christian.

Music is indeed a pathway for Satan to get to someone's mind. When the lyrics are bad, the music is bad. Even when the lyrics are good, the music can still carry satanic messages. There is even Christian music that is tainted and is satanic. Please do research satanic messages in music on YouTube, there is a lot of info out there. As a musician, and as someone who God has done so much for, I can attest to the fact that music can change your mood, affect your psyche. There are all types of hidden messages in music, the illuminati especially puts messages in music (lots of info on this on YouTube). I have done much research on this topic and have eliminated all types of genres from my music diet and so it only includes sanctified worship music now and it makes a huge difference.

Music is neutral - not evil or good. Lyrics can be a source of good or evil - depends on what they are and how you internalize them. Yes, music can change your mood and can even have a positive impact on health, but ultimately the only power music has (good or bad) is the power you give it.

Can messages be hidden in music? Of course. The Beatles did it, but I think it was more of a sales gimmick than anything else. I spun the records backward and heard "Paul is Dead" in The Walrus, "Turn me on dead man" in Revolution # 9 and "We need help" in Back in the USSR. So what? Paul Clark put "Behold the Messiah Jesus is Lord" back masked into a song on his Songs from the Savior vol 2 album.

We get all kinds of messages from any number of sources every day. We have to rely on the Holy Spirit to keep us safe.

So - you listened to any good heavy metal worship music lately?

I like early Fireflight. I just don't know if it's worship music per se.

I wish one of the premier metal bands would come over to our side. My first choice would be Iron Maiden. But it'd probably be commercial suicide -- Management would never permit it.

I think Iron Maiden would sell albums no matter what the subject matter of their songs happened to be. And Nicko McBrain being a Christian doesn't seem to have hurt them in anyway, although his input to songwriting is minimal.

But Dave Mustaine and Blackie Lawless have both become Christians in recent times, so that's Megadeth and W.A.S.P. who have essentially "come over".

Have you heard any early Barren Cross? They sound a lot like Iron Maiden.

This is the title song from their first album:

I really like the fact that their vocals are more in the baritone range than soprano. I really LIKE this song. It is probably my 2nd favorite metal tune, the first being not ever professionally recorded to my knowledge; "Hangin' Tree" by ArchAngel of Lansing MI.

Yikes. Those guys are seriously incredible. I just listened to Birth Pangs. Never knew they existed.

Makes everything on Billboard's Christian charts and the "what's hot" list at Praisecharts seem sort of... tepid.

That drummer is really solid and his timing is flawless.

Thanks for the pointer. Me like.

You are welcome. BTW - FYI - that song I posted was released in 1986. That's right - almost 30 years ago. Serious old school metal.

Too bad I cannot post "hangin' tree." You would love that too.
