I like this Pope, even though I'm a Protestant

Pope Francis is a good Pope; humble, loving, pious, living frugally, and cares for the poor. I think he is the last Pope and the GT will start soon. Why? It's beyond coincidence that the old Prophecy of Malachi predicts popes, describes them and announces the last pope before the end times. But the prophecy refers to the last pope as Peter the Roman. But this pope took the name from Francis of Assisi. So how could the prophecy ring true? Well, Francis of Assisi was born Giovanni di Pietro di Bernadone. Francesco or Francis was his nickname. His father Pietro was in France when he was born and when he returned, was furious that his son was named John Peter, since he wasn't religious and didn't want his son to have a religious name so he changed it -- too late! He was born and baptized John Peter Bernadone and in the eyes of God and his mom. So in essence, this Pope is really Pope Peter, since Peter trumps John in Catholicism. The prophecy rings true after all.

The current guy is from Argentina - so even if a person wants to say that Francis is Pope Peter -how can he be Peter the Roman if he is from Argentina? And if you reason that Francis of Assisi was a Roman, and named Perter - then why wasn't he Peter the Roman?

He's too old to be any significant bible prophecy figure - because it is going to take someone with the physical stamina to carry out the tasks, someone in their late 30's early 40's.

The theory doesn't work, but as a side note Kenneth Copeland and his crowd are into Pope Francis and reunification.

I've long wondered about that prophecy. I don't think we'll know for sure until the RCC is destroyed.

That's a good one you made me laugh. You say it like it's a sure thing, like you know that it's going to happen. When DO you think that it'll happen? Here?:

"And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur"

Actually, I think there's a good chance that the RCC is the harlot, in which case she would be destroyed before the end of the world.

Either way, of course it is a sure thing that the RCC will be destroyed, because the entire world will be destroyed. It's just a matter of timing that will reveal whether or not the RCC plays a part in Bible prophecy.

I like him too. I also like Nurse Jackie. She cares about people even more than House did.

I like Pope Francis. And we might want to keep in mind the Apostle Peter wasn't from Rome or Roman at birth just that he became the Bishop of Roman.

When did he become Bishop of Rome? Scripture reference?

Scripture reference? This is not a reasonable request due to the fact this is not a doctrinal matter. So are you saying you don't believe both apostles Peter and Paul were martyred in Rome?

I agree; the nature of this thread is for discussion, and just conversation. It is not a debate thread. I just want to hear what people have to say and throw out some discussion tidbits along the way.

I was listening to a JVI video (hardly ever) and he was down on this Pope and was citing the Catholic catechism for his criticism....:openmouth:

My comment

There are protestant "church" movements within the professing church who have gone after an ecumenical re-unification with the RCC .... some most disturbing like the charismatic pied piper Kenneth Copeland, Peter Wagner of the modern day apostle cults, and even Rick Warren of the mega-church set .... we all worship the same "god" babble .... Muslims, Jews, Catholics, etc .... and so does the Pope push this idea

However, the prophetic scriptures do not describe a Euro-centric Pope .... all one has to do is to read the visions, the Pope is not an "Assyrian" and he does not reside in northwestern Mesopotamia

When the current Pope dies those who think and have placed the same within the scope of the Bible prophets will have to build another story for the next

There is no Pope and the RCC in prophetic scripture .... there are warnings about the apostate behavior of the same that would come and deceive many people of professing Christianity

Mat_24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Some things never change.

We are not to bow down to any man or any idol.

The Hebrew men who were thrown into the fiery furnace knew this.

Any man who allows Christians to bow down to him is not of God.

Rev_18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

Rev 22:8 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.

Rev 22:9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.

It seems like everything anyone posts turns into a debate on here. I was so hoping a Christian forum would focus on Jesus Christ and people growing in Him, not debating their theological differences. I'm a college professor and I get enough debate at work. Guess it is my fault for going on a political thread. Sorry.

Does he? Are you sure about that? I know the Catholic church doctrine but I do not personally know what the current Pope believes in this regard.

If he didn't believe it, he wouldn't be Pope. In fact, he wouldn't even be Catholic. It is the very basis of Catholicism.

Maybe they will give him that name? Many of the prophetic details of this prophecy are subtle and containing minor yet relevant qualities or facts about the popes listed.
Examples of the Prophecy of Malachy, where he prophesied 112 popes before the End Times begins:
The 107th Pope was given the title, "Pastor et Nauta (pastor and marine). Before Pope John XXIII was elected, he was patriarch of Venice, a marine city." Some would say that is minor but still significant.
Pope #109 had the description: "De medietate Lunae (of the half of the moon). John Paul I was elected Aug. 26,1978 during a half moon and reigned for one month to the next half moon."
Pope #110 was given the description: "De labore Solis (of the eclipse of the sun, or from the labor of the sun). John Paul II was born during a solar eclipse and died during a solar eclipse." (quotes from Catholic Encyclopdeia 1913 & Prophecies of St. Malachy and St. Columbkille" by Peter Bander, 2006 (interpretations and mottos)
