what songs/music have you heard at funerals and what will you request at your own?

I been to a funeral recently of a church lady and she had her own selection, she grew up in the sixties and was a singer in a band with her husband so on way out with the pallbearers a recording of her singing sandie shaws number 'girl dont come' was played.
I also heard 'i will follow him' and 'hallelujah'
In the service the songs we sung were 'jesus loves me' and 'amazing grace'. Another church lady played the organ.
Another funeral I went to of a member of the same church, the worship team played guitar and we all sung 'what a friend we have in jesus'. As this guy was into country music, over photos of his life, he had country style music.

At my MIL's funeral, a close friend of hers (church pianist and organist) played a medly of early 20th century gospel hymns in a 40s and 50s style of southern gospel that was NOT country. It was closer to the jazz popular at the time. She just went from one to the next without stop and it was WONDERFUL. (and something my MIL would have LOVED hearing)
What her friend played was more subdued but the style is consistant.

Isnt it interesting that at all special occasions theres music. Birthdays, celebrations, services, graduations, weddings, funerals.
It would be weird to go to a silent funeral.

I sang this the Sunday following the funeral of a friend's grandmother. My friend loved the song and said it brought comfort and joy to a sad time in the family's life. I would like it played at my funeral (along with Elton John's Funeral For A Friend)

Like our weddings and baptisms, our funerals are also set in Orthodoxy.
And- Memory Eternal in Slavonic and English (which I always hear at church during funerals and memorials- along with the Greek and the Arabic):
The ultimate Orthodox funeral service is that during Holy Week during the Lamentations at the Tomb.

While it is not the most musical version, the fact he knew he only had a few months or weeks to live when he recorded it put such an emotional intensity to it.

I read his bio. I didnt really know too much about his personal life. It seemed like he had a lot of struggles. I like Johnnys gospel music.
