hello

I recently communicated with this Christian guy I know through email.

anyway, he actually reply with this nice email, saying he and his wife will be both praying for me, and finished the email by signing both of their names.

anyway, out of respect, when I replied, I used the term " you guys" within the email itself as an acknowledgement of them both, just to be polite.

from that point on, I received absolutely no response from him

I sent him another email recently, again no response.

I was not quite sure if I have done something wrong?

my understanding is "you guys" is a slang that doesn't necessarily mean " you two dudes", it could includes women as well, but I am not quite sure....

thank you

I believe that you are correct about that. "You guys" is not an insult. However, he may have been wary of you wanting to become a regular 'penpal' or confidant. It looks like he cared enough to reply to you about whatever the issue was, and to be encouraging, but he didn't want to start into something more longterm and/or personal.

I'll be blunt... he needs to grow up if hes upset over saying "you guys". Its common for people to say to a group "you guys". Its not meant to be literal as in everyone is men. When we call to make plans we often say "Hey what you guys up to friday?". Though you should see if you can contact him again and ask if something was wrong since you didn't get a reply. Though some people I know don't reply back and forth all the time. Kind of like those that read a facebook message on your wall but don't respond.

You didn't miscommunicate. 'You guys' is well-known common slang in certain parts for more than one person. It's not sex specific. It's not my go-to, but all but the addlepated understand it. Personally, I'm fond of the version of 'you all' known as 'y'all', and have even been known to use 'all y'all' on occasion.

There could be any number of reasons why someone hasn't responded to an e-mail, so it's generally best not to try to read between the lines.

Don't think they got offended by it. Even I understand it and I'm Dutch.

From my experience lots of folks don't reply to
an email that is basically a "thank you" note...
and if the follow up email questioned why they
didn't respond to the previous email...or it came
across like you're needing more friendship than
they are wanting to enter into-- they stop
communicating altogether.

thanks for all the responses I have got , I really appreciate them

I should clarify something

I emailed this guy a few months because I needed a prayer partner, I told him it will only be once a month max.

He let me know he was more than happy to help

anyway, I emailed him with a request a month ago

he responded that he and his wife will be praying for me and he asked me to keep him informed to any development

that was why I emailed him again, to let him know the new developments.

I am not the kind of person who would bother others

I guess I want to make sure I haven't done anything wrong, because this kind of thing happened to me before, people just cut me off , and I was left to wonder what I have done to offended them.

sometimes I find Christians are just as petty as non Believers, they cut off you for the tiniest things, or perceived slight on your part....

it is really hurtful sometimes......

Your clarification helps, but I'd recommend just letting this pass and not worry over it. There could be several reasons, but I don't think that expression, "you guys," offended anyone.

Not long ago I learned if you say "dude" it's not necessarily responding to a guy. Daughter uses "dude" to refer to friends and to me.

Don't read too much into his non-responses. Use that energy to pray for him and his wife instead. Maybe they are having some hard times and he wishes not to get into the details. The worst thing you can do is personalize this situation. I know you worry something might have happened, and maybe something did. So pray for him

Complainitis - it's like a disease caught from my parents and I tend to feel distrust with my boss at times when I need a response from a mobile phone call or email as a permanent written message:.
Having an open mind on him with extreme focus can come up with several possibilities that could have prevented his immediate response, such as: being so preoccupied with the customer he is serving, or he could have called one of his worker's but got no immediate response, and therefore so affected his attitude, it mirrored his 'put off till later' response to me, or he could have received an angry-affected insult from one of his fellow workers, and I wish I could secretly install a bug to eavesdrop the conversation behind my back, I mean, in my car parked outside the head office - then again, I leave it Jesus Christ who can spiritually listen to anyone's heart in any situation, especially a refugee crisis situation where poverty and violence seems impossible to end.;'*';.
