As I read the bible there are some things that I don't understand. what is a prophet and a gentile.
A prophet is someone who proclaimed an important message. Often in the Old Testament of the Bible, a prophet would warn of judgment or call God's people to repentance. A well-known prophet in the New Testament of the Bible is John the Baptist, who prepared for & pointed to the coming ministry of Jesus.
A Gentile, in the biblical context, referred to a person or nation that was non-Jewish or otherwise not part of Israel.
Also when we become christian we accept jesus as our salvation and we are baptised with the holy spirit. This is my understanding so far and have a not read the full bible yet. Some say this is rong and to become a christian you have to be confirmed and your not allowed to have the communion until your a confirmed cristian. Also you have to be baptised with holy water. Im getting really confused with what I'm supposed to do.
There is one baptism, & that baptism is in water, done in the name of the Father, Son, & Holy Spirit, which is the formula given by Jesus in the New Testament.
In baptism, we visibly become Christians. We are sealed by the Holy Spirit & marked as Christ's own forever.
The traditional, historical Christian understanding of baptism is that it is in water & it is in baptism that we are "born again." There are a few denominations that teach contrary to the traditional view.
Communion practices vary greatly amongst denominations. Early Christians practiced closed communion, which means that only baptized members of that congregation may partake. Today some churches still keep this practice. Other churches practice various forms of open communion, which means that any Christian, baptized or not depending on the denomination, may partake. I attend the Episcopal Church & we invite all baptized Christians to partake, whether they are members of our church or not.
Traditionally, baptism precedes communion.
I read my bible and pray to God for help and thank him for all what he has done in my life so far. I don't go to church as often as I like as I recently do 12 hour night shifts but I do plan to star again once I'm off night duty.
No worries.
Reading & understanding the Bible is a journey, & learning about the Christian faith takes time.
