I know that the Bible says all Christians have a spiritual gift, but I just don't know what mine would be. None of the 'gifts' listed seem to specifically apply to me or really describe me. I really do desire to be used by God. I want Him to use me, but how do I figure out how I can be used. I am on the introverted/quieter side and just don't know how to fit in with a mostly extroverted Church. Where do I fit in and how do I know??

As a fellow introvert, and newbie to the faith, I share the desire to be used by God. I studied the bible and prayed and received an answer. God called me to teach the children. Now this may not be for you, but it is a great place to start. As an introvert, I find it easier to face children (they are less judgemental). Also, as you teach the basics, you are learning. Many people with varying gifts begin this way. Most pastors, missionaries, adult bible study teachers are first called to teach children as they grow in their faith and understanding. It is also the highest honor

Thanks for sharing! Last Sunday I volunteered in the nursery for the 1st time and really liked it. I like facing children for the same reasons, they are just so much less judgmental. Maybe that will lead me somewhere, or maybe not. I saw this quote the other day that said: "God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called" and found it comforting...

God will reveal the gift to you in time. If you are introverted it means that you will probably have better insight than extroverts.
I wish you all the best in your search for God's plan.

Every born again Christian, has all the gifts of the Holy Spirit, in himself, because the Holy Spirit lives in us and his gifts are in us. We have to decide to use them by faith, that is, to start to act in faith. For example, if we want to prophecy, we have to ask God in prayer, to give us a prophecy for a particular person, and then step out in faith, and start to prophecy. Even if the first few words or sentences are from our mind, the following words, can be from God.

I don't know if this lines up with Scripture or not, but let me say that everything I do for the Kingdom passes the following tests:

1) I love to do it independent of any Kingdom benefit, to such an extent that if I couldn't do it, I think I'd just go sit in a chair somewhere and shrivel up and die, like the ending of the last Godfather movie.

2) It comes really easily -- inexplicably so -- almost as if the skill/work/process generates its own sustaining oxygen, and I'm just along for the ride to provide the mechanics or the clerical effort.

3) The desire to be excellent at it, to pursue it to perfection no matter the cost in time, is impossible to extinguish.

4) The money doesn't matter. I'd do it even if I got paid nothing.

I'd also like to offer something else: Pay attention to what happens inside you as you do things for people, even when it comes to the most mundane things. If you feel a sense of holy rightness and worthiness about it that's way out of proportion to the actual act, then that could be "I was destined for this" whispering to you from behind a veil.

When I was younger I had some one prophecy over me that God was calling me to the workplace, and that he had a plan for me that would suit my personality. He also mentioned about winning the lost.

I was a very introverted person, and still am to a degree. But God did put me in a good job, and gave me a desire for witnessing. However initially I was a hopeless evangelist, and had a terrible job. But now I am really blessed, and the testimony of what God does in my work place has blessed many.

God will lead you over time, first to know him in a deeper way (not suggesting you don't know him btw), then to share his love, and power. We need to be proved in doctrine, and love for God, before he will entrust us with the bigger gifts of the Spirit.

Every Christian brother and sister has all of the nine gifts of the holy spirit, it is inside and you just need to release it. When you are born again, and baptised in the holy spirit, your spirit is the same spirit that raised Jesus Christ from the dead, your spirit is perfect as Jesus is perfect.
We are able to do all things through Christ Jesus-

Actually if you read 1 Corinthians 12, Paul says that not everyone has every gift, but even so we should desire to have them.

All I can say is, the more you walk in the Spirit, the more God uses you, and the more you mature. The more you mature, the more you use your gifts and the more gifts you can use. It's a process.

Hi,

I don't think in the beginning, that I ever did anything for God, that I loved. And, if I have every gift that The Holy Spirit Has to give, I sure don't recognize that.

I do work for God. I have been directly working for Him, for 12 years now.

Even today, two things I must always relearn.
1. Pray, even if I hate it.
2. Do what God wants, even if I don't want to do it.

There is a third thing, I must learn constantly.
3. I am not the gifts in me.

A fourth thing is also there.
4. I am doing nothing, rather it is God with me or Graces of God in me, that is at work.

Hopefully with this fifth item, I am done.
5. If I don't spend time with Jesus, in my case Eucharistically, then in two months or so, I am no longer effective.

LOVE,
...Mary., .... .

I suppose we need to begin by defining what we mean by 'spiritual gifts'. Contrary to how the various Bible translation committees have been rather liberal with their use of 'spiritual gift/s', which is a term that Paul does not acutally employ, this means that our understanding can very from the 9 Manifestations of the Spirit (1Cor 12:7-11) to piano playing and yodeling.

If you are in a cessationist congregation then the Holy Spirit will undoubtedly not be permitted to outwork through their members within the congregational setting; this does not mean that someone who belongs to such a congregation could not pray in the Spirit (tongues) during times of personal praise and worship at home.

As for teaching, church planting (i.e., apostles), evangelism and pastoral ministry, these things are not Operations of the Spirit (aka, 'spiritual gifts) as they reflect more a persons temperament, character and personality.

it does say ''each one is given a manifestation of the Spirit to profit withal" (verse 7) and that we should "earnestly desire the greater gifts" (verse 31)

of the gifts listed the only one I have is the gift of knowledge of the Bible - however it is of no profit to me - I have debated the Bible with numerous biblical and religious scholars and have been thrown out of various churches and a few Christian professing websites - be nice if I was given the other gifts but that is not likely to happen

I can understand why a "gift of knowledge of the Bible" has been of little value to you as the γνῶσις gnosis of 1Cor 12:8 does not relate to Biblical knowledge but to a special knowledge that the Spirit reveals regarding specific situations.

you say ''special knowledge that the Spirit reveals regarding specific situations"

Blue Letter Bible reveals this,

http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=G1108&t=KJV

  1. knowledge signifies in general intelligence, understanding
    1. the general knowledge of Christian religion

    2. the deeper more perfect and enlarged knowledge of this religion, such as belongs to the more advanced

    3. esp. of things lawful and unlawful for Christians

    4. moral wisdom, such as is seen in right living

Thus, the Bible's definition as illustrated by the scholars who put this together have a far different definition than you do.

This is the ideal source of info for those who have questions on biblical issues.

if you have gift of knowledge then please answer my post Guides, and Spirits.
Hi,
You mean about not trying to understand things that are too great for us, or too deep for us? Is that what you mean? Where is that passage? Or do you mean something else?
Of which post are you referring to?
LOVE,

That's is not quite clear, you had a word of knowledge, why, what to do with it, was something that you needed

As we draw closer to God, put Him first, delve into His Word and talk to Him more n' more, and worship and praise Him, our gifts just begin to un-fold before us. It is the Holy Spirit Who develops them in conjunction with the "fruits of the Holy Spirit" as those seeds come to fruition. Our gifts blossom in conjunction with the fruits of the Holy Spirit. TRUST God and talk to Him about this.

The fruit of the Spirit passage can be very helpful in thinking about a person's spiritual gifts as a Christian. :)
