• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I can only speak from a conducting "personal ministry" perspective, so it is only by observation.

I have never seen spontaneous integration happen of its own accord. I'm sure it's possible in the same way physical healing or self deliverance is possible. Probably challenging to achieve alone without prayer support.

As to what it's like - the person seems whole, more there. All the awareness or memories from the alter is still their, also their strengths and weaknesses. The pain seems to be gone, or at least be repositioned in that the person is now able to handle it.

What is supposed to happen? I know it can sometimes be spontaneous, but how do you know if that's the case. What's the difference before and after?

For me it occurred in phases as I had a super large system, 100 plus, with three distinct layers and multiple groups within them. First the groups decided it was time dissolve barriers within me. Eventually the three layers flattened down into one layer.

Before integration I was divided in decisions and in most aspects of my life. I was aware of the parts of me for the most part. I functioned but not like I do now with one mind.

My integration occurred outside of therapy. A therapist didn't help me with it. It was a personal choice which the therapist didn't even know about.

After the integration, a whole bunch of new memories surfaced which were connected to the very first memories I had when I started therapy. There was a long break between integration and the new memories, several years had passed. The memories came in three waves, I guess I could call them that. Hard to explain. They were the worst memories and yet provided the most answers and relief. That led to a major healing within me.

I can only speak for my own experiences, I go through waves of integration as the poster above said (specifically more during the times my doctor weans me off more of my medication and I have to face what arises from my subconscious), it starts out with feeling very confused, depressed, but then suddenly everything clicks together and I feel really really good.
