• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Thanks for the kind review. I just posted a new article today. This one was a couple of weeks in the making and discusses how I discovered my own place on the spectrum. It's a personal account. I would love to hear how others discovered their own autism.

New Post: Falling Through The Cracks: My Journey To Discovery

Also, if anyone has suggestions for autism topics from a Christian perspective, I'd love to hear them. What would you like to read about?

I must say your school experience was different than mine--I made great grades but stressed a ton since I had no friends and no life outside of schoolwork.

I'd love a post on how you deal with people that disagree with you. I'm having trouble with that right now, and I don't know if it's Asperger's or just my personality.

As a fellow autistic who is high-functioning, I found your blog very interesting, compelling, and accurate. I am intelligent, have decent social skills (not up to par with people my age but I get by because of my mature demeanor and being a great friend), but I have poor coping skills despite them being light years better than they used to be (verbal tactics are what my instincts revert to as they explain my frustration; my family gets the worst treatment but I can work through my anger at school & the outside world).

I was like you, born/raised in church with compulsory church attendance. I "heard" the Gospel but I could not put the actual pieces of the puzzle together until I recently became a Christian. I was essentially an agnostic/diest who was very moralistic and arch-conservative (due to my black and white thinking pattern). I became a Christian almost 6 months ago (I was 17 at the time and I still am 17).

My twin brother (we are identical) got saved at age 6. I am not sure how he understood the Gospel so early when it took me 17 years to put the pieces together (I did not really know right from wrong until like late-ish elementary school or middle school).

If it were possible, I would love to hear about if autistics begin to understand the gospel later than their peers.

I got saved less than a year ago, but I was raised in churches most of my life. All that was really needed was a time where I needed God and no one else could help me cope with my problems in life. When that time came, things started to get a little bit better.

Thank you so much! I really needed everything said there! It's like that post was directed towards me personally or something! Thank you! :)

Glad you found that helpful. The blog is an experiment for me. Ultimately, if enough people find the topics useful, I want to use them as the basis for a book for and about autistic Christians.

So far I have posted 17 articles, including a couple that are reviews. The first article sets the tone by explaining that we are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made. As autistic Christians, we should embrace that concept. The article on Frames of Reference is based on my own "Aha! moment" when I realized that I experience the world differently than most others. I discovered this before I knew I was on the spectrum.

I have a bunch of ideas for new articles, some of which will delve into the research side of both giftedness and autism.

I do take requests, so if someone has an idea for an article, please let me know about it.

Also please pray that I will glorify God in all of my writing.

I've been thinking about what to say on this topic and I can't come up with enough for an article. My article on Evangelizing Mr. Data already covers most of what I can say about this.

From my own perspective, I could have understood the Gospel at age five if someone had taken the time to carefully explain it to me, and relate it to things I can observe.

My article on Intellectual Awareness and Spiritual Awareness may also be helpful.

I could never be an atheist; it requires too much faith!
