I am concerned about my cat, Ginger. She did not eat this afternoon or evening, and she threw up a couple of times. I'm concerned that she may be getting pancreatitis again. She had severe pancreatitis a couple of months ago and had to be hospitalized - and it started with the same symptoms that I've seen today. Pancreatitis is very serious in cats (and unfortunately can sometimes become a recurring problem in cats). She will have to go to the vet if she doesn't eat in the morning. Please pray that she will be ok. Thank you!

Thank you! It turned out to be a minor flare up of a chronic inflammatory bowel issue that she has. She's doing fine now and is eating like a little piggy again!
Yay...happy to hear that

I have no problem praying for you. But, I will not pray for an animal. That is just wrong in so many ways.

I do agree with your underlying point that we're more important to God than animals are. We are so important to Him that he gave His only Son to die for our sins. But that doesn't mean that God doesn't care about animals, as well (Matthew 6:26, for example, makes it clear that while God loves us most, He certainly cares about the animals He created, too). And, of course, God cares very much about anything that is distressing to you and I. As far as Ginger is concerned, that situation was very distressing to my family and I, because we love Ginger very much (and frankly, it was a financial worry as well - feline pancreatitis tends to be very expensive to treat, since it often requires hospitalization; two days at the emergency vet cost us over $1500 when she was sick the last time).

If you feel uncomfortable praying about this sort of situation, I respect your right to believe differently than I do. Occasionally, for one reason or another, I have felt uncomfortable praying about a certain thing that a person asks for prayer about, but I recognize that they are upset and that the situation truly matters to them. So, I pray for the situation in whatever way I can (without compromising my beliefs), and without criticizing them. Blessings to you.

Why is it wrong to pray for an animal? God gave the world and the animals to Adam to look after; Noah cared for the animals in the ark; clearly God does care about animals. So why would we not ask God to help us in this looking after, exactly?

Prayers to God are not limited, like a bank account. We do not run out of credit when we pray; the more we pray the more blessings God offers to us and the world. There is absolutely nothing in Scripture to justify your suggestion that praying for animals is wrong. It simply isn't.

I reserve prayer for people because God has chosen us to be significant, and has always played a vital role in the well being of man. He said that He will always provide for us, and the He loves us.
About animals, God said it was good, when He created them, and it stops there. Animals are nothing more than a utility, they are food, and an oil source, and at one time their pelt was used for clothing. They also of course companions to some. They are to be enjoyed for a time, and then discarded when they no longer serve their purpose. In animals that is usually when the die.

You know what? I will pray for your cat. But, My prayer will be that the Lord comfort you in this difficult time, and that if it is His will to do so. Would He please take away the cat's illness.

Thank you - I appreciate your prayer. Ginger is doing well right now, so I think she was just having a bad flare-up of her chronic bowel disease.

There is no need to 'reserve' prayer. Pray in abundance; pray for everyone, everything, every situation; and then pray some more.

Animals are not just a utility; God told us to act as stewards over creation and that means looking after it; caring for it. It does not mean treating animals the same way as carrots or bookends. They are sentient beings, sharing life with us, and often feeling very much as we do. If they could speak we would know this. Because they cannot speak we must take greater care not to abuse them.

I don't understand why you would respond here to a request for prayer for bonnieg's cat? Bonnieg took your reply to her with the sweetest spirit. I would had been hurt if that had been said to me about something I care deeply about. There are people in this world that have no one to love or care for them. Their family all passed away or friends passed away or moved miles away and where do some of these people get the most love showed to them? By their pets. As sad as that is to say it is the truth.

My faith in God has waived through recent years and then a thread like this reminds me of something long ago.......

When I left home because I could no longer take my step family being so mean to me I was by myself other than my precious part collie that I am so thankful for to this day many years later. She was 6 months old when I got her and took her to the vet. The vet told me she was born with a heart condition and would only live to be 2 years old 3 years old at the most! She lived to be almost 18 years old :) God cared about her because He knew how special she was to me. I don't see anything in the Bible about us not asking God for something for our pets and for sure with all the things in the Bible that teaches us what is wrong, I don't read anywhere where it's wrong to pray for our pets. Just because you think it is wrong "in so many ways" does not mean it is.

When I met my hubby to be if she had not approved of him I would not had married him! LOL My hubby loved her as much as I did/do.

Pets feel pain, too! Many times they just don't show it until they are in really bad shape. They get cold, hot, hungry, etc. and they ask so little in return! Does it not say in the Bible in everything to give thanks? I thank God for our pets and that I believe He cares for them, too, and if He cares for them it can not be wrong to pray for them.

I agree. I thank God for our pets (2 dogs and 2 cats) every day. They have been such a blessing to me and my family (and lately, especially to me, because I've been having a lot of spinal pain - my pets are better "medicine" than any pills I could take!) And I agree that it's fine to pray for them, too. I believe God cares about all the animals he has created, and especially about the animals he created to love us and to be loved by us.
