I've been using Chromium. I never found it hard to use, but it was a bit of a learning curve coming from Firefox. I've had a few plugin issues, but other than that, I haven't had too much trouble. I'm still using it, after all.

Between Chrome and Chromium; is the user interface/control panel similar? One of the reasons I like IE is the controls and tools are easy to find and use; but that may be cause they have been here since the dawn of time/ internetly speaking.

Any problems with laggy/slow insertion of text in reply boxes such as this? That is the only problem I'm having now; with IE11 and CF, since the reformation here at CF; altho it has been getting better/less frequent. Thanks for your input.
No problems at all, so far.

Chromium is open-source, so it is obvious whether a closed-source module is loaded into it or not. And due to public backlash that module has been pulled - for now.

I thought that was the problem; people couldn't tell wither it was loaded or not?

If you like Chrome but don't trust Google - and no one should trust Google - then I don't see why an independent Chromium derivative with more features and more privacy wouldn't make sense.

Well; only cause an old dog has a hard time learning new tricks/browsers. :) And IE 9, 10 and 11 have been working pretty good; till just lately with the new CF. And how many extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins would it take to come up to the functionality of IE11 and it's native relationship with Windows7?

I do have to say that one thing I like about the new CF platform is that the
WYSIWYG rich-text editor is compatible with Chromium-type browsers.
Generally, such browsers don't have the rich-text interface with vBulletin
forums. I had to get a special add-on for that, and the last I had checked,
the add-on had been discontinued.

The problem was that the module was loaded in without announcement. This struck a nerve with the user base for obvious reasons. But anyone who peered into the open source could at any time see the module. The whole episode wasn't terribly brilliant on google's part and should at least have had an appropriate announcement.

You bring up a good point about difficulty of setup. This is one problem I found with Firefox. It seemed everything I wanted to do required an extension. Firefox still has the largest extension selection, which is nice. But extensions take time to choose, can conflict with each other (and with the engine at update time, which is frequent these days), and slow the program down because they're not compiled into the base code. I have always felt that FF should have incorporated basic features that, for instance, Tab Mix Plus offers into the code for that reason. All those extensions demand resources and slow the program and system down.

Unhappy about that, I went back to the old Opera, which is now defunct. The new opera, also based on Chromium, was not a viable option, IMO. So I looked and found Slimjet, which I have not found a better alternative for yet. SJ has all the features of Chrome, does not need an extension for everything, has more privacy guards, and has a lot of nice features built in (and it's still young). Soon it will have its own adblock compiled in as well, which should have a significant positive effect on performance. And yes, you have access to the complete Chrome store.

The Epic browser looks very interesting. But I don't think I could put up with the shortcomings mentioned, and sending my search data through a proxy would concern me. As an alternative I recommend using a secure search engine such as Duck, Duck Go (Bing based), or my choice, Startpage (google based). If you use SP enable the POST search option, which will make the searches even more secure.

You know; the Goggle conspiracy started when i was using Bing maps a few years ago and then Goggle brought out their maps and it was neck and neck till Goggle brought out there street few; Microsoft's Birds eye view just couldn't compete.

Then i was using Bing search, just as happy as could be and Google had their search engine; but with a search becoming a Google and you can't Bing somebody but you sure can Goggle them. Goggle has even got me away from yahoo search, which i used for about 10 years but Goggle had better results and I haven't used yahoo in months

Now lately i have been using MS's Edge browser with the new Windows 10 but with their messing up their favorites and videos stop working in edge; i have been using Chrome more and more. Even tried Firefox but it has a lot of crashes and i don't like their new tabs page; so once again Goggle has the conspiracy of "it just works" and innovation. Their bookmarks may be named different but they work like IE used to with favorites; Goggle eats MS's lunch again.

It's a good thing Goggle doesn't have an OS or they would rule the internet world--wait a minute... they already do--the os isn't the internet.

Edit: i don't know if anybody understands how much this pains me to endorse Goggle--i have always liked Microsoft more; i think because of all the humanitarian efforts of Bill Gates.

You have to realize Google created Chrome.

Srware Iron is also Chrome in every respect but is made for security paranoid freaks.

So I use Srware Iron with addons AdBlock Plus (turn this off in CF!) and HTTPS Everywhere with duckduckgo or startpage as default search engine

Performance-wise the above combo is as fast and solid as stock Google Chrome. But gives some peace of mind for security freaks.

I've gone MS IE, Firefox, Chrome, Srware Iron. Iron is the best.

I use Chrome on my smart phone android 5 and it flies. Seems to want to update more frequently than I remember with IE.
I think part of the reason is that if you use Chrome it tends to steer you very hard towards their other apps.JMHO.
By the way if you are using Android 4 and considering updating to LollyPop be advised there'S no going back. I even reset my phone to factory settings thinking I'd start again from scratch but nope, when it rebooted there was Android 5. But, after several patches and so forth the have it working pretty good.

I thought it was obvious that i was comparing the three Goggle enterprises; maps, search and browser with the three Microsoft ones.

Sorry, you gave me the idea that you didn't liked Google. And there's a good reason for people to hate Google these days. The NSA scandal comes to mind.

I didn't; but like they say; you can't argue with success.

I think the stock browser on 4.4 android is Chrome.

I have uninstalled it and use Dolphin instead.

I was using Edge, that came with Win10, for a month or so after installing 10; but it started not running videos on YouTube last month so have been using Chrome since, but keep checking back to Edge hoping it will work. Even tried Firefox a time or two but, like said in a previous post, it crashes right out of the box. A small observation; when in Chrome's bookmarks, I have to double-click on a link to make it go; no big deal. but when I forget to double-click, I think the link is dead and go to another, just don't understand why should have to; that is so Windows desktop old.

No such problem with Iron Chromium and Firefox on Windows 7. This is probably a Windows 10 problem.

Well...i have been using Chrome almost exclusively the last few weeks, Edge just doesn't have the edge, if you know what I mean☺. Chrome has taken Microsoft's favorites and made it easier to use; Edge has made it harder to use their favorites and got it confused with their "reading" list; why do you need a favorites and a reading list? It's not like the internet is segregated into video and image pages and reading pages anyway.

And Edge doesn't even look good; all grey and small; like they're hoping you wont notice your using Edge. Chrome is blue has a bookmarks bar and just works better; maybe you can put different themes on Edge, I haven't bothered to look into it; as the videos not running in it, no point.

Another thing, why I like Chromes bookmarks, you can put the sites your bookmarking into folders as you bookmark them, not after the fact, like Edge/IE made you do.

I really didn't expect to be using Chrome now; figured it would be Edge or Firefox; I don't see why it is so popular; Firefox that is.

Wait until they add features to Edge, and slow it down.

You didn't like Slimjet? Version 5 is out, with a built-in adblocker for speed. I had to disable hardware acceleration to get it to work on Linux, but it's fine now. Many advantages over its sibling Chrome.

I never tried Slimjet, as there was nothing about it on the web, so was kind of leery. Now that I've got used to it, Chrome is working out pretty good. As I said previously, I like their bookmarks. But, the real reason I've been using it, is because it plays videos like Edge wont and doesn't crash like Firefox does.
