Proverbs 3
Everyone read Chapter 3 if it is the 3rd day of the month today. Come back and give us your thoughts....Tishri1 :wave:

Chapter 3 is my favorite Chapter of all as it was one I cherished as a young Christian when the world would try to pull me back again into my old life. I also instilled this into my kids when homeschooling them and trust they still have it planted in their hearts.
1 My son, don't forget my teaching, keep my commands in your heart;
2 for they will add to you many days, years of life and peace.
This is getting to be a stronger promise now that Im older lol ;)
3 Do not let grace and truth leave you -bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Sometimes we think this started in the NT with Jesus but God's word is true and eternal and this was where his word was always meant to dwell.....in our hearts not just on tablets of stone.
4Then you will win favor and esteem in the sight of God and of people.
I need this today!!! With my Job and career
5 Trust in ADONAI with all your heart; do not rely on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him; then he will level your paths.
This is the secret IMO to living with out fear too when we dont know what our future is or what is in store for our lives. We can trust and be not afraid
7 Don't be conceited about your own wisdom; but fear ADONAI, and turn from evil.
8 This will bring health to your body and give strength to your bones.
AMEN!!
9Honor ADONAI with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your income.
10 Then your granaries will be filled and your vats overflow with new wine.
AMEN!!
11 My son, don't despise ADONAI's discipline or resent his reproof;
12 for ADONAI corrects those he loves like a father who delights in his son.
I wish my adult kids knew this....oh well its planted somewhere in their hearts
13 Happy the person who finds wisdom, the person who acquires understanding;
14 for her profit exceeds that of silver, gaining her is better than gold,
15 she is more precious than pearls -nothing you want can compare with her.
Its funny that its better than riches and it brings you riches.....I know in my "knower" this is true but think its also an attitude you carry with you as well.
16 Long life is in her right hand, riches and honor in her left.
17 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who grasp her; whoever holds fast to her will be made happy.
I believe this and that happiness (a position in life not brought about by "things" but an attitude your clothed in from on high) is the point of my life too
19 ADONAI by wisdom founded the earth, by understanding he established the heavens,
20 by his knowledge the deep [springs] burst open and the dew condenses from the sky.
21 My son, don't let these slip from your sight;
Hence the reason for this study in Proverbs
preserve common sense and discretion;
22 they will be life for your being and grace for your neck.
23 Then you will walk your way securely, without hurting your foot.
24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
25 Don't be afraid of sudden terror or destruction caused by the wicked, when it comes;
26 for you can rely on ADONAI; he will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.
We need this today, we need to trust in our God to direct us when this world gets dark around us
27 Don't withhold good from someone entitled to it when you have in hand the power to do it.
28 Don't tell your neighbor, "Go away! Come another time; I'll give it to you tomorrow," when you have it now.
29 Don't plan harm against your neighbor who lives beside you trustingly.
30 Don't quarrel with someone for no reason, if he has done you no harm.
31 Don't envy a man of violence, don't choose any of his ways;
32 for the perverse is an abomination to ADONAI, but he shares his secret counsel with the upright.
33 ADONAI's curse is in the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous.
34 The scornful he scorns, but gives grace to the humble.
35 The wise win honor, but fools win shame.
Amen and Amen

Hi
Ah yesterday was Proverbs 2. I missed that. I loved Proverbs 2 in this way, but I wll then shift over to Proverbs 3. All this will be from my world, so it is personal.
In Proverbs 2, I was able to first learn that The Lord as listed there is God The Father, and that my Lord or our Lord is Jesus. I did not learn it from there though, I learned it from combining things that Jesus said, and then I went on the prowl, to see what else I could learn. Jesus said that He is talked about in The Old Testament. Jesus said The Old Testament cannot be changed. Then He, used a passage from Psalms 110 to us, but He added something. It was this: David speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit said: The Lord said to my Lord, sit here.... so on and so forth.
I took a guess. The Lord is God The Father. My Lord is Jesus, to David. Notice also that The Holy Spirit is mentioned as the one Who Told David what to say. However, in Psalms 2, I actually could see Jesus accepting His inheritance from His Father after making those substitutions.
So, I really liked Psalms 2 for that, and it is the first place, that the way, is mentioned.
This is about Psalms 3. I will paste that here first, and then see what it has meant to me or to others, after the postiing, but still here and below that posting:

Proverbs 3 English Standard Version (ESV)
Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart
3 My son, do not forget my teaching,
but let your heart keep my commandments,
2 for length of days and years of life
and peace they will add to you.

3 Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
bind them around your neck;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 So you will find favor and good success[a]
in the sight of God and man.

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
7 Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
8 It will be healing to your flesh[b]
and refreshment[c] to your bones.

9 Honor the Lord with your wealth
and with the firstfruits of all your produce;
10 then your barns will be filled with plenty,
and your vats will be bursting with wine.

11 My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline
or be weary of his reproof,
12 for the Lord reproves him whom he loves,
as a father the son in whom he delights.

Blessed Is the One Who Finds Wisdom
13 Blessed is the one who finds wisdom,
and the one who gets understanding,
14 for the gain from her is better than gain from silver
and her profit better than gold.
15 She is more precious than jewels,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her;
those who hold her fast are called blessed.

19 The Lord by wisdom founded the earth;
by understanding he established the heavens;
20 by his knowledge the deeps broke open,
and the clouds drop down the dew.

21 My son, do not lose sight of these—
keep sound wisdom and discretion,
22 and they will be life for your soul
and adornment for your neck.
23 Then you will walk on your way securely,
and your foot will not stumble.
24 If you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
25 Do not be afraid of sudden terror
or of the ruin[d] of the wicked, when it comes,
26 for the Lord will be your confidence
and will keep your foot from being caught.
27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,[e]
when it is in your power to do it.

28 Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again,
tomorrow I will give it”—when you have it with you.
29 Do not plan evil against your neighbor,
who dwells trustingly beside you.
30 Do not contend with a man for no reason,
when he has done you no harm.
31 Do not envy a man of violence
and do not choose any of his ways,
32 for the devious person is an abomination to the Lord,
but the upright are in his confidence.
33 The Lord's curse is on the house of the wicked,
but he blesses the dwelling of the righteous.
34 Toward the scorners he is scornful,
but to the humble he gives favor.[f]
35 The wise will inherit honor,
but fools get[g] disgrace.

Hi,
Other than changing wisdom to Wisdom in Psalms 3:13, the thoughts here are for me after though I had matured in God. The main point to me here, is to trust God and really no thoughts in myself, as to what God wants and what God is.
LOVE,
...Mary., .... .

NOTE<Staff Edit to Members>I am starting the thread for Chapter 3 here - Everyone read Chapter 3 if it is the 3rd day of the month today (Today is July 3 that is why we are reading Chapter 3). Come back and give us your thoughts....Tishri1 :wave:

Hi,
You are so nice. I was so petrified, when I saw the other thread closed. I thought to myself the worst. It was what did I do? And, then this happened.
Allthough, I did think that thread was salvageable. This is fine and nice. Thank-you,
LOVE,

Your insight into the of changing wisdom to Wisdom hit me hard because yes its like wisdom becomes a person or a power that we embrace at some point in our lives when we not only listen but let it direct our lives....I just love that you saw that there!!!

Hi,
First my real teacher in all this has a name. I cannot claim insights so much as a great teacher, or teachers.
Second you may do all you like, with those coments on Psalms 2. I really did miss July 2nd, and would have liked to have seen that date first.
I don't have enough experience here, to do what you have asked of me.
LOVE,
Mary, ...M., .... .

P.S.

Wisdom is not an it, in every case. Guess what her gender is? You will find her gender in Proverbs 9:1. In Proverbs 8 You will see since she is created that she cannot be The Holy Spirit, nor Jesus but rather just what she says she is. She is the first thing God ever created if you can call a female spirit type creature an it. 'wisdom' is a characteristic and she gives that. You will find that somewhere in Proverbs also.

Other than being what she is in Proverbs 8, and best understood relationship wise by one of the female gender, who is in a relationship, she also has a job.

Wisdom's main job, is maybe to hard to see at first. As you go through Proverbs, hopefully you will see that she tests all people, and when she a woman is satisfied that a person has passed her tests of Absolute Honesty, in desire and will, and not necessarily in perfect accomplishments, it is only then that she rewards a person.

Before that time, it is no act of truth, or honesty, or doing the right thing that gets a person anything but grief. And the grief does not come from her, rather it is just a normal part of life.

Her, rewards are understanding and knowledge of God.

There is more, on her, but not using Proverbs, rather it is using what people who have passed her tests, of their commitment to honesty, not by desire, but by proof. She a woman has to be convinced.

If one does not like the fact that a female, passes out wisdom, the characteristic, and knowledge of God and other things, their argument is with God, because He is the One Who Set These Things up This Way.

The above is my understanding, as learned and taught by my teachers. It is also as I have discovered things to be.

I have a friend who has seen her.

I have felt her for years, and I for years never knew who this beautful woman was off my left shoulder and slightly above it, whenever I was scientifically brilliant. Later, I found out it was her, a real woman.

Are you dismayed? Pass her tests. Are you shocked? Pass her tests. One day, all I say, you will know then.

I really don't think in all of Proverbs, that I have anything more to say.

I will be here from time to time, by why should you wait, for you are eager.

LOVE,
...Mary., .... .

I love Proverbs, I think God put this book in our Bibles for daily reading, think about it most of the months of the year have 31 days and the book of proverbs has 31 chapters; one chapter a day for each day of the month :clap: :) ;)
I know exactly it will be a pleasure reading this with you each month!

...and Proverbs 3.....beautiful promises of such depth and God is telling us right from His own mouth HOW to be blessed of Him and how we can have long, and blessed lives with extraordinary favor. In particular, these verses sum up all that is said in Proverb 3 and "ties it all together, the bottom line being, if we heed these verses, we are in "right standing with God" and giving Him His due honor and fearing/respecting Him for the Most High God, El Elyon, the living God, Whom He IS:

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil." ~Proverbs 3:5-7

Hi,

Today, after reading Brinny's commentary, and she seems quite correct, that trusting in The Lord and not on or in ourselves for Understanding of Things happening or that He is having us do, these thoughts were next:

Blessed Is the One Who Finds Wisdom
13 Blessed is the one who finds wisdom,
and the one who gets understanding,
14 for the gain from her is better than gain from silver
and her profit better than gold.
15 She is more precious than jewels,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her;
those who hold her fast are called blessed.

19 The Lord by wisdom founded the earth;
by understanding he established the heavens;
20 by his knowledge the deeps broke open,
and the clouds drop down the dew.

The above makes more sense to me this way:

13 Blessed is the one who finds Wisdom,
and the one who gets understanding,
14 for the gain from her is better than gain from silver
and her profit better than gold.

15 She is more precious than jewels,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.

16 Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her;
those who hold her fast are called blessed.

19 The Lord by wisdom founded the earth;
by understanding he established the heavens;
20 by his knowledge the deeps broke open,
and the clouds drop down the dew.

The change is small, but to me wisdom can be the characteristic, but it can also be a female, called Wisdom. Which to use where, is in context. Above in Psalms 3:13, wisdom should be capitalized, as it refers to her, and not the characteristic wisdom that is in God, nor in the wisdom of God, that might be in Wisdom, the female.

LOVE,
...Mary., .... .

i love thse verses in Proverbs 3 as well:

verses 5-7

5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

this is, in essence, acknowledging God's sovereignty, and bowing ourselves, our hearts, our minds, and our wills to Him. And ultimately is evidence of the "fear of the Lord".

...I am reading the Living Bible at the moment...Prov 3 21-26
21 Have two goals: wisdom—that is, knowing and doing right—and common sense. Don’t let them slip away,
22 for they fill you with living energy and bring you honor and respect.
23 They keep you safe from defeat and disaster and from stumbling off the trail.
24-26 With them on guard you can sleep without fear; you need not be afraid of disaster or the plots of wicked men, for the Lord is with you; he protects you.
....great stuff!
